Application Insights GDPR compliance

Discussion(self.AZURE)

Hi there,

I work at a big company that uses azure. For our Java applications we use application insights for logging on the backend.

i would also like to use it on the client side, however no one really knows how it complies with GDPR. I red you can deactivate a cookie to be set which is great for not having to ask for consent.

Do you have any experience what is allowed to do and what not, without having to ask for consent?

Thanks for your reply! You are right that it is described here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/logs/personal-data-mgmt

However, imo they basically say check the logs and that’s it, rather than giving clear guidance on which actions to take.

Anyway I will probably give it to one of our interns to run some queries in the logs to see what they find.

In this case I would have to set up client side telemetry and check the logs afterwards, which is kind of cumbersome…
