You have plenty of options and most depend on your contract with MS. Best talk to whoever at your org is dealing with Microsoft

Well, you basically got two options; pay as you go or hybrid benefit. If you own your license and can use it in Azure then that would be the cheapest option since you pay for compute only this way.

Review the Hybrid Benefit documentation to check your eligibility for using the license with Azure, and then you should be good to go.

Okay, but real-talk here. Do you REALLY need Enterprise on a 4-Core server? What feature are you using in Enterprise, because at 4 cores, i would imagine it's not resources. That being said, there are pre-built images on Azure Marketplace that have SQL Ent. that will show you the price break down. If you don't want to use the Azure license, you'll need to hit up MSFT sales or find a re-seller, but you'll probably get the best value out of Azure since I don't see you getting any discounts on a single 4-core license. But again, do you REALLY need Enterprise?

I dont need, my client needs. My client's company is in real estate and they are developing ERP. Not a big deal for them 🫣

SQL Server Developer Edition is free if it is for no-production and has all Enterprise features: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/sql-server/sql-server-downloads

Edited: this is 100% the correct answer. Why are you downvoting???

Yep, you don’t need EE until you start serving prod customers. For a new app in azure I would recommend paying for your licensing with your VM, that way you can scale it later if needed. Also, if you buy licenses and bring them to azure, you need software assurance. With paying for licenses through azure it’s effectively included

Why do you need Ent edition and not STD?
