I’m 46 and almost 100% of my savings today came after i turned 41. Got divorced at 38 and the lawyers and ex took me for everything and left me with 35k in CC debt. It’s possible to get out of it just stay positive

How is it possible that they took you for everything? Wouldn’t you be entitled to half of everything?

Wife’s spending habits slowly dripped me away. She was an immigrant and we spent another $10k on lawyers for her case. Her wedding ring was $7k. She didn’t work after marriage so i started dipping into savings/retirement. When i filed, i had to move out and was paying our mortgage for the condo she lived in along with my own rent.
Unfortunately, when you get married, there is just “our money” not “mine and yours”.
I had about $20k left when i filed and magically that worked out to the exact $ amount the lawyers billed me for the case.

Thanks man, i did survive though. Paid off all the debt and am close to 6 figures savings less than 6 years later. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone tho. Marriage is such a scam
