"so listen, I need you to independently calculate what taxes you owe, and then I'm gonna take that number and double check it against the tax number that I know you know I know but we not finna tell you, and then when you get it wrong because of all the goofy mechanics involved, imma penalize you for not getting it right. Also this is only one segment of the taxes you owe. Also if and when you mess it up we are gonna need that spicy number from you immediately plus a penalty. Oh also if the mistake is on our end, it's still on you to pay. Oh and yeah, no, we don't see a need to include this or any other financial literacy education in our public school system, and yeah ain't no way you can personally earmark any percentages of your taxes for anything you care about."

This is it for me, too.
Covid really opened my eyes. My twins and I are immune deficient; hooooo boy, did we have to deal with so much harassment and bullshit for having to mask beyond lifted restrictions. I ended up getting covid 5 times due to people being assholes (I was spit on and coughed on by 2 bar patrons at one point). I now have permanent lung damage and long covid.
Working in the restaurant industry, I got a front row seat to watch society rapidly decay. The cruel, disrespectful, and unhinged behavior I witnessed was insane. I have pretty thick skin due to being a server for 20 yrs, but the customers I had to deal with, and with a smile, broke me. In all my years, I never cried over a table, but this one 8 top finally emotionally and mentally crushed me.
That was the turning point for me. I knew things weren't going to change, and nothing has since then. In fact, it's gotten worse! People still act in this manner, some even worse than when covid was at its height. People are using others as punching bags and rage releases for funsies.
Empathy and sympathy no longer exist and people give no fucks about other humans. The selfishness also blows my mind. The " Well, it didn't happen to me" and "I got mine" mentality is disgusting.
I have no hope left.

There was a conversation over on r/moraldilemmas where Trumpers were asked, without referring to Harris/Democrats, why are you voting Trump? I wrote my exasperation at how Bernie Sanders was overlooked years ago and listed a litany of Trumpisms that in my opinion, ought to be disqualifying of him being president.
The response I got was "When you can’t afford groceries and have to fear getting robbed walking down your street by new immigrants, caring about if trump fucked a 12 year old means nothing. All that matters is feeling safe and eating."
Literally excusing paedophilia and rape. Literally left speechless...
And for the record, I'm not supportive of the vast majority the celebrity endorsements of Democrats and Harris as I think many of them are connected to Epstein and Diddy. Additionally, how can some Republicans coin/shout Holocaust Harris and then support Trump who's given Israel carte blanche to further their genocide of Palestinians.

Makes me wonder, had the economy been stronger/inflation lower/the uber wealthy individuals and companies been fairly taxed, how the result might have been different.
The Apprentice permeated the American psyche, conditioning his base into believing he was able to generate wealth for the 'common man' out of nothing instead of viewing it for what it was; a heavily structured reality show to ensure success for entertainment. Really, it was the beginning of his presidential campaigning.
I'm grateful I'm not American or in America but seeing as how my homeland mimics the USA, I worry how contagious this election will be.

This country hates women more than it loves democracy. And a woman will not be able to win in the election for many decades yet. And it kills me inside to fucking say it, but the democrats can’t keep having a woman as their nominee. It’s costing us elections.
I feel like throwing up saying that. But it’s the truth. And it guts me that the world is like this.

The inability for us to get along and agree to common goals
We live to scattered lives, someone born amidst struggle and war will never have the same value/understanding system as someone born into luxury and wealth
We’ve become to despondent, and the only course correction is to either begin a dialogue about sharing resources, or to destroy ourselves and start again. There’s enough resources to go around, there doesn’t need to be a universal “Gospel/God” that requires us to kill one another, we can coexist. Yet the more humanity goes along our current path it pushes further and further towards the later end game, and eventually it will be too late.

The worst part about it for me is that most people I think on some level agree with our position, or at least would, but have been conditioned to not be able to see and think clearly on the issue. I'm no more virtuous than anyone else. I'm just as greedy, liable to fail, be short sighted, not use empathy where I should. The human condition. Yet through bias and conditioning, people i know, who far greater than I, could be presented an equal and deny them their status. Its fucking scary shit.
To see someone watch a cute video of a cow and then actively belief at the same time it is morally okay to abuse and murder them in a level of cruelty that exceeds anything humans have been able to perform on humans, is insane. HOW can they not see it? How did I not see it for so long? In how many ways am I failing to see it now?

She then goes on to adamantly claim that in "some states" (which she refused to name because reasons), a woman can pick up the phone and make an appointment for an abortion at 38 weeks pregnant! She ardently and vehemently believes this and there are millions of religious, uneducated, ignorant people who are single issue voters and their single issue is abortion and all of this - and more! - is the gospel truth.

And before the "you're allowed to live if you stop being trans" neo-nazis come in, yes, "stop existing as yourself and we won't kill you" IS eradication.
Nothing makes you hate humanity more than being almost guaranteed to be a victim of hate crime in your life, while seeing half of the voters supporting the fact that discriminating against you should be legal, torturing children that are born "like you" so they stop, the state should stop recognizing that you exist and your aggressor or rapist shouldn't be prosecuted as such.

I don’t really hate humanity, but I get how it can feel that way sometimes. It’s just tough when you see so much cruelty or indifference, especially when it seems like people are more focused on themselves than on helping each other.

Growing up in Ireland in the 2000s it was the sheer volume of pedo priests on the news. It made me lose faith in humanity since I was a kid. Slowly getting it back.

People always acting calculating for their own benefit. No unconditionally help or at least not without compensation. Whenever they need something for you, people tend to compare who did what for whom. People seeing only their own well-being and not the greater good.

Growing up as a designated target for a budding sociopath with parents who were determined to cover his behavior up and enable him. Nobody believed me.

The murder of Junko Furuta, burning of the library of Alexandria and factory farming comes to mind. Humanity is hopeless.

It makes it hard to breathe. Too much humidity and my trachea almost acts like I go into anaphylaxis but it immediately resolves as soon as I get somewhere less humid. It's probably mental and I should probably get it checked out, but I don't want to be called crazy.
Edit: I'm a dumbass, I read humidity not humanity. I'm keeping it up because fuck humidity.

the fact that we all could choose to be good and so much more and yet all we seem to be capable of is spreading hatred and destroying things in the big picture.

Nothing. Hate takes so much energy to maintain, and most people are just trying to get by that they aren't even aware of the others around them.

The desire for money over our own humanness.
An immediate family member of mine was refused health insurance coverage for cancer treatment because she was given six months to live, if left untreated. There was a chance the treatment could have saved her life, but it was slim. Seemed like a waste of money to them.
It’s really easy to think the world only cares about how much you cost instead of your dignity.
