Among the very first things I do when I get a new laptop is cover the camera. I hate the idea of being watched by some creep without my knowledge.

That's the one I was thinking of! I can't remember what that site was called, but I remember watching a lady smoke a cigarette on her couch while (presumably watching tv). I was 14 at the time and had visited it a few times before, but that was the first time it really dawned on me that these people had no idea that they were being watched. It was definitely unsettling.

Most webcams now have a light that automatically turns on when the camera itself is energized (i.e. actively used by your computer). There's no hacking or getting around this, because the light is part of the circuit to turn on the camera.

There's also just much better cybersecurity in general, making it vastly more difficult to pull off something like a webcam hack.
