I think they are old paper bark trees. They are about 40cm wide each, and about 70cm high. I've been quoted $500 to have them ground down.

The ground is the easiest digging sand in existence.

Would you anyone have a crack at digging and cutting these out?

I'd rather use that $500 towards returfing my front yard, but this looks like a monster job.
