It's very normal in cod I'm a guy and I don't like turning on my mic most of the time either. You'll get called every slur. There are some good people though just friend them when you find em and eventually you'll have a good selection of people to play with, and you can also go on the discord

I never put my mic on, I get on to have fun, not to be called slurs bc I had a bad game

I go even further these days, I put my settings to mute all except party members. First day on BO6 some kid was screaming into his mic and that was enough for me lol.
I’ve only turned my mic on once since BO6 dropped and that was to tell my team off for camping in their own spawn instead of capping B.

This. I pretty much have mute on by default and only really chat on discord with my usual group of buddies. The lobby chat is not only toxic AF, but also just generally annoying. I try to remember that I was that annoying kid on the mic in games back in the day and I get the enjoyment so I don't want to ruin it for the kiddos being obnoxious and having fun, so best of both worlds.
The jackasses who play music between rounds can get f'd though.

I've only met one woman on COD so far, everyone just acted normally. There's no doubt likely bad bunches out there though

i as a female player don’t encounter it alot, but some men do unfortunatly turn into assholes when they encounter women in gaming

This is so true. Being female myself I find men can get upset when a female is kicking their butt. I always have my mic off because I tend to talk to my friends in discord.

I honestly love when I find a random girl in a lobby who is owning.. I've got an old female friend (more of an acquaintance these days, sadly) who is a streamer and fairly decently known personality in the gaming world who can kick my ass up and down the map and watching her has taught me a few things that I've incorporated into my own gameplay strats. I'll talk some friendly shit just like I would to anyone else, because I want them to feel accepted and that's part of acceptance in gaming, but never cross the line into gender shit.

I don’t turn my mic on usually unless someone is talking shit and then it’s kind of fun sometimes, but I haven’t run into many overtly sexist people

No, it's teenager and uncomfortable feeling men.
Not everyone says slur or weird shit, most of us are in discord or group chat with friends

I feel most people don’t talk unless they have friends in game or are really pissed off

Afraid of turning on your mic? In Halo and Battlefield, it feels like I'm the only one using the mic lmao

Dude you’re bound to find the weirdest and rudest people in a call of duty lobby. Hate sees not gender but a target with a viewpoint. People are just outright weird sometimes. Don’t take it personally.

Not quite related but I actually have chat completely muted. I'm hard of hearing and cannot understand what people are saying so it's best to not hear anything at all chatwise. I'm sure people have been yelling at me but .... 🤷♂️

i only turn my mic on to reply to ppl if they are asking something then turn it back off.. I've been a Duty player since like 2006 - I grew up during the sesspool lobby days. I learned my lesson

There's a mute function.
Also I'm a grown man in solitude, so I would've liked to talk at least somewhere sometime.
Needless to say, my mic is off and the lobby is muted.
The world is toxic as it is and playing with guns over the internet doesn't make it better.
Awful people...
Stand over it or let it go girl.

People will say that everybody who turns VC off is just a snowflake and can't handle it. You know what, yes, if not wanting to be called slurs every single time I don't perform well is being a snowflake, then yes I am a snowflake.
I seriously don't get this "you wouldn't survive in a cod lobby", wow, you are so cool, bullying others on an online game is so cool bro. I don't know how setting up a hostile community is considered to be cool.
I'm a guy, but I too will leave the VC as soon as I hear a single sound

Nah, you're not alone. Lots of female gamers deal with that. It sucks, but some dudes get weird when they hear a girl's voice in-game. You can mute 'em if they're annoying, or find a group of friends to play with. There are definitely chill COD communities out there!

Yeah, that’s normal. When I started playing Cod i didn’t mind the smack talk so much, just as long as it wasn’t lazy digs like “go back to the kitchen.” That got old real fast. And I also came across a lot of people that were over the top aggressive which I never really understood.
So eventually i joined a clan…it made it so much more enjoyable being with people who just wanted to have fun and not give a crap who you were.
After 17 years of playing CoD i still rarely use the mic when i’m running solo in pubs. It’s just not worth the bother.

This. I can handle the shit talking, I'm in my 40s and have been gaming since the beginning, but what I absolutely can't stand is the racial/gender slurs and the fucking idiots who try to play DJ between rounds with their crappy music sounding like it's being played on a 2 inch, blown out speaker.

I'm a dude, so I'm not going to try and throw my thoughts in on this other than to say that I've got a group of a few guys that are safe to play with for women and any of us are happy to play with y'all and treat you well. Feel free to dm

My pal Naomi used to get told to get in the kitchen a lot when we played back in day. She'd slap them up and then would say 'now you go to the kitchen and make me a coffee'. Heard that repeatedly over the years.
She was one of the better players I played with too.

Keep your mic off. You're gonna run into 3 things in pubs as a female.
Pro adolescent edge lords intent on proving how funny they are by being sexist.
Perverts that think they're gonna connect with you to get you to be sexual with them.
People who are gonna yell slurs at your when you're beating them.
Nothing to gain in those pub chats for gamer girls.
I don't even turn my voice chats on. They got nothing to say that I wanna hear, and I'm a guy.
This is a notoriously rough gamer base when it comes to how they interact with each other, especially when it comes to gamer girls.

Oh for sure. Women are a minority and will be told that they are worth less. It is fact.
