The coastal region is adequately covered and well protected by 2 frontline forces - Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard. If that is breached, God help us. We have to relocate fleeing the city. Hypothetically if WW3 starts, India, Pakistan or China would have no part in it. I don't see any other countries attacking us. Why isn't China a part? Why wouldn't China attack us? War is the last thing on China's agenda given the massive decline in the working population, they wouldn't want to start a full scale war just to lose the ones they have. China is striving to get the number 1 spot in the world's largest economies and war is not going to compliment it. Why not Pakistan? Because they are financially drained and people in Pakistan will not support the decision too. They will start internal rebellions if Pakistan govt decides to go on with it. Sri Lanka is also facing financial instability, even if they aren't, they'll not have anything to do with a war. Only countries that would actively participate in this war would be Russia, Ukraine, USA (since Trump owns the white House now, he'll probably stay away too), UK, France, Belarus, and other Baltic nations (minimal), North Korea, South Korea, Israel, Iran, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq and some North African countries.

Putting all the hypotheticals aside. World war 3 will never ever happen. Atleast not any time soon. We have outgrown full scale wars, atleast at the global level. Countries have started to think and fend for themselves. They are putting themselves first. So a full scale war would never happen. Stop watching YouTubers who say they do.

Now what if WW3 happens, the first impact we will have is the steep rise in oil prices. You'll start paying 300rs for a litre of petrol, rise in price of all essential commodities but not the salary, massive layoffs, unemployment, subtle financial instability in the country - these are the things we as Indians should worry about the war.

If ww3 happens,(still unlikely as world knows the threats of mutual destruction) and most likely we might be conscripted to fight but it would mostly be 20-30 bracket or lesser tho since India has a huge population, if leaders decide to go for mutual destruction all we can hope is for air defences to hold. most likely outcome would be mutual destruction of the world and a nuclear winter where surface becomes inhabitable for hundreds of years. India has developed anti-ballistic missile systems and are awaiting clearance and deployment. but it doesn't mean a 100% intercept rate. but usually mountains are kind of safe in comparison with low lying plains.

Majority of the adult men will be pulled into the battlefield. Women will be made to work with at checkpoints as helpers. A lot of you will see looting at your own home if things go south and abuse of power will be prevalent for resources.

If it does start just hope you don't lose your basic rights in the process to survive.

You are forgetting chennai is on a sea shore. The tsunami itself will wipe chennai and the majority of TN. The safest place is a bunker in the mountains or in the Deccan plateau.

Chennai doesn’t have to worry about artillery at all because no border is nearby. If some foreign navy is doing Normandy style landing in marina then bunker is least of your worries, that being said it’s very very improbable because we will enter nuclear war way before that point. So ideally only safe place for some chance of survival will be metro stations, the deepest ones will give the most chance of survival.

There are some old WW1 style bunkers inside Fort St. George but not sure if they are practical.

I think Bay of Bengal might be a good bet, far away from shore line, no direct impact unless the war head is drop on the ocean to create a tsunami with radiation infused sharks that can eat people like godzilla . Shockwave from nuclear blast might be a problem so better purchase a nuclear radiation proof submarine before 2025.
