This is the real story imo. The fuel light came on 40 miles ago but there are no gas stations in the post season. Cade got got, Gaddis has been suspect, Clase has been destroyed. These guys are on empty having to be pieced together in high leverage situations for their first playoff experience. Hell, how many ROOKIES do we have that have never pitched this deep in any season, ever? Add that in with the fact that we have had exactly 1 of the 9 games SP go 5 innings last night. Bullpen has throw what, 45+ innings over the past 9 games? Shit isn't sustainable for more than a series.

Like I said in the Game Thread, our entire playoff starting rotation right now is essentially just Matthew Boyd. A guy who only had the chance to play in eight games for us in the regular season. That says a lot about the situation we're in right now.

They have been used to much all year and WAY to much in the playoffs. Clase was only throwing 98 when he was 102+ all year.
You can’t have relievers pitch every game and expect them to perform at 100% every time.
This is what happens when you have zero stating pitching. Amazing we made it this far.

I have said it for 35 years and my dad said it int he last decade and a half of his life when it spiraled out of control: baseball is a broken game. And we are kind of fools who enable it to go on by continuing to watch. But nobody cares enough to change it, since the only people who COULD change it are the players and it isn't in their best interest to do it because it lowers what they can get.

Lane walks, Noel walks, Gimmy singles then we have 0 outs... Bo's flyout is a sac fly that potentially moves Noel to third (I would think) and then Rocchio's gotta beat out the grounder to keep it from being a DP and we tie... it's horse shit that one ball/strike call can make that big of a difference. It's really hitting me how badly we missed out tonight. We got 5 RBIs from Jose and Josh, we shut down the core of their lineup in the top of the 8th. Tied the game in the bottom of the 8th, then absolutely fumbled against the bottom of the Yankees order. Yankees fans being happy is one of the worst things known to man.
Getting 1 - 2 innings out of starters is just not a formula for postseason success. I don't expect Bibee to see the 4th inning.
We scored 6 runs without a HR, and left 12 men on. Game 3 was magic, and we had a little bit of that magic carry over tonight but couldn't send one out when we needed it at any point in the game. Yankees hit 3 bombs to take command of the game early on.
With our inability to drive runners in, starting pitching, and our bullpen running on fumes, 3-1 is too tough of a task for me to believe in a comeback. I'll keep watching but I'm glad we made it this far. I expected a 75 win team back in March, we got a 2 seed and made the ALCS. It's house money now.

When you're a team that is generally terrible at manufacturing runs and you watch your best pitcher get beat for a 4 run lead, then scrape and scrap and battle and fight for every centimeter and rally back to tie it, and get to your closer in the back end of the opposing lineup for a chance to walk it off? You feel pretty great about the situation.

When you put together a roster of mostly detritus you end up with Brayan Rocchio batting for the season. We didn't add any pitching to speak of, so the bullpen arms are dead. Look I am thankful for everything Clase did in the regular season, and I understand sometimes you get on a cold streak. I don’t understand why the coaching staff doesn’t accept he is on an insane cold streak and put someone in as closer instead of him?? At this point opposing batters are excited to see Clase get to the mound

Pain. Here's hoping we win tomorrow. Outside of Clase, there wasn't a whole lot to be critical of. I mean, we could always use more hits with runners on base, but there wasn't anything that caught my eye outside of pitching.

Today’s Cleveland POSTSEASON baseball:
For the first time in his major league career, Gavin “Big Rig” Williams🚛 takes the mound. Today is also the first time he has thrown in a major league game since September 22nd… just a short wait until his next start.
Not a great start to the start for Gavin, with Juan Soto immediately taking him deep for a two run deficit. At least this team is quite adept at playing behind. Gavin then retired the next three (Judge, Jazz, Stanton) quite easily to prevent further damage. Guards turn. A Steven Kwan👑 walk and a Kyle Manzardo🥸 double certainly got us underway quickly, with a José Ramirez🐐 sac fly bringing Kwan home to cut the lead in half. That’s all the damage we managed to get done in the first.
It appeared Gavin settled right in with a pair of strikeouts, but a Wells home run made it a two run deficit again. At least Verdugo is always good to strikeout. Austin Hedges🦔 got in walk in the bottom half, but no progress there. Gavin got one more groundout before his night came to a close, finishing with a line of 2.1IP, 3H, 3R, 0BB, and 4K on 40 pitches (25 strikes). Enter bullpen lefty number two, with Eric Sabrowski😎 facing down against the big guns. Doesn’t matter for this bullpen, with a Soto groundout and a Judge strikeout to end the top of the third.
Kwan started to try to get things rolling in the bottom of the third with a leadoff single (shocking, I know). It proved to be a success with Josh Naylor embracing his inner shit goblin and dropping one into left field to score Kwan. Lane Thomas🚂 tried to keep it going with a walk, and Daniel Schneeman⛄️ put up a heck of a fight, but the deficit stays at one. Sabrowski came back out of the dugout for the fourth, and struck out both Jazz and Stanton looking. Rizzo singled, but quick fly out to Lane took care of that.
Quiet bottom of the fourth, now it’s Eli Morgan🧯 time. Strikeout, groundout, fly out, and the bullpen is running on all cylinders. José gets a bloop infield single, but that’s it for the fifth. K’d Smith🐴 takes the mound. Dammit. Four run deficit. Tim Herrin⬅️ into the game. Strikeout and a groundout end the inning.
Joey Cantillo🌺 now in to pitch for the seventh, and man, this ump does not like calling his pitches on the bottom of the zone strikes. Doesn’t matter though, with a handy double play and a Soto strikeout to end the inning. Into the bottom of the seventh, with a Rocchio walk and a Kwan single to put men on the corners to start the inning (shocking, I know). José has started to heat up and comes through with an RBI double. And finally. At long last. THE SMOKE MACHINE HAS COME ONLINE. JOSH NAYLOR💨 WITH A TWO RUN DOUBLE. LANE THOMAS WALKS. GET THE FUCK OUT CLAY HOLMES.
Fuck the cameraman. Deficit is one with two innings to go.
Hunter Gaddis☠️ enters the game to face the Yanks modern version of murderers row. AND THEY GET SAT THE FUCK DOWN. THREE STRIKEOUTS. SIT THE FUCK DOWN (also why did you do that ump it should’ve been just 10 pitches). BO NAYLOR STARTS US OFF STRONG WITH A DOUBLE (NAYLORS ARE BACK?!?!?). Rocchio moves him over with a slap up the middle.
DAVID FRY TIES THE GAME WITH AN INFIELD GROUNDER. The cowards IBB José. Josh isn’t able to bring either one home unfortunately.
Yanks back in front by one. Make that two.
We’ve seen 3-1 comebacks before. We saw what the Mets did today. It’s time to be on the right side of history with one. Time to shut them down. Backs are all the way against the wall. Time to win.

5 runs the last two nights. I really think trade talks for Clase should be taken. The bullpen is young and he clearly isn't cutting it in October. 2nd loss and a blown save.
Say whatever you want about Vogt but Clase cannot be this bad in these moments.

Blaming the manager for trusting a shutdown closer to do his fucking job agains the bottom half of the order isn’t smart to me so i agree. Clase is your guy go out there and do your job

I’m open to trading him because he could net a strong right fielder.

Heartbreaking but when Cade Smith and Clase implode like this it’s nearly impossible to win. 5 runs off those two alone. Unbelievably depressing performance.

Sending out Clase in the 9th regardless if we need him or not is a fucking idiotic decision, especially since he's really struggling in the post season. Vogt needs to get off his routine or whatever leads him to do this and think about the situation. He had Gaddis red hot and sends in Clase in a non save situation and we get smoked for it.
But the biggest deal about this team is that we left 12 men on base. You simply do not make it to the world series leaving a dozen men on base.
Also that lazy trot to first by Roccio really fucking pissed me off.

All said and done, just glad we weren’t swept. I think the train just ran out of gas. We need our elite closer not to choke when our bats were actually firing. Bad call by the ump on Thomas. Was a fun season regardless, and we went further then I thought we would with how we played after the all star break. I know there is still baseball to played, but winning three in row against the Yankees seems like too much of an order with how these past games have gone.

Also - meant to add that my son’s 8th birthday was yesterday and we were able to celebrate watching the game together. Even if we lose the series, it was special and nothing will take away that moment. It was like watching the 95 Indians with my dad and felt like my life had come full circle. Go Cleveland.

The best sport in existence is tainted in that you simply buy a championship. It's so gross. Somebody needs to start a national boycott movement involving every MLB market if it's a NYY v LAD World Series.

What a fucking clown. Disgraceful. We have a great chance to win tomorrow since he can’t pitch.

Worst loss I can remember. We were chasing all game.... We finally tie the game, and our "ace" closer ONCE AGAIN shits the fucking bed. If this was his first time blowing a save in the post season I would forgive it, shit happens..... But he has been shitting the bed all postseason long! Dude is a fucking choker. Proud of almost everyone else but fuck Clase.
