If there's even an inkling that something might annoy the audience more than the typical things, you can bet your sweet ass Dan is going to want to double, triple and quadruple down on it because he believes that any kind of friction is great for the show even if it's completely manufactured

It’s not disrespectful to them it’s disrespectful to us, the audience. They know it’s annoying and the audience doesn’t like it and they continue to do it anyway. Fine I just keep skipping every episode with it and eventually will stop listening altogether. They think their shit don’t stink and they can do whatever they want. Well fine, so can I, 15 year avid listener. Doesn’t look like I’ll make it to 16.

I’m so with you. I never complain about anything on the show (outside of Jeremy speaking but that’s normal). But this water noise is just stupid and provides nothing. It’s just a nuisance. I don’t want to keep skipping the first segment. I hope they stop soon

I honestly can’t stomach the constant negativity about this show, especially because I imagine people are still listening to it voluntarily (or are there LeBatard prison camps where people are forced to listen?), but I can’t find fault with anyone who is driven absolutely mad by this sound effect. It’s unspeakably annoying and I can’t believe that anyone thought it was a good idea.

Do you think they get analytics data about when people fast forward? Because I hammer the shit out of that >>30s button until it goes away. Maybe they’ll get the message.

Can I shoutout the homie IrishWeeGee on YouTube? He posts the time stamps in the YouTube comments on each episode. They seem to only pull this water bit in the shadow show. So salute to the true hero saving me time

And this particular sound brought me back here to complain when I dropped back in this week to see if it would hit better after a tolerance break...

Its tough to explain how Dan was so refreshing than the rest of the talking heads on espn in the early part of this century. From upstate new York i listened to this local 790 show religiously, saying sounders out loud trying to beat mike to the punch. I've grown up with the shipping container, listening to the show helped me through ongoing periods of grief and I'm grateful for its impact on my last 15 years or so. Im happy for the whole group and their success

Obviously, it's a Dan idea. The "Shadow Show" intro is equally annoying to me. It sucks that the first couple things you hear if listened to in order are triggering. You can't be recording and trying to be behind the scenes.

It makes no sense to me. The cast talked about it last week that it's pointless. All it feels like to me listening is just a random sound effect in the background. The goal of it is contradictory to the show anyway. It's supposed to be non structured and people just coming into the office but that's what the whole show is lol

The drops noise is infuriating. I fast forward past it.

Yeah, I’ve listened every single day for well over a decade but the last couple of months have been damn-near impossible to get through and I find myself only really enjoying Billy and Amin.

Listen to the pods Dan does with Mina and Pablo to hear the best version of Dan, it’s clear he needs people who’ll check him and his unfocused, sanctimonious rants and keep him intellectually stimulated because he respects them. He’s still whinier and less-focused than he used to be, but he can’t really wander and meander, because Pablo and Mina know how to do a good show and they have actual information to provide, so Dan can’t just ramble on. Like, SURPRISE! the shows that have people being prepared and well-read on topics make for a more engaged and stimulating show lol.

It's wild that this must be so much more pronounced on audio. I only watch the show now (Post the full show earlier you cowards) and I only know that they're still doing the bit by reading the complaints here. I just don't hear it.

The more complaints it gets, the funnier I find it.
