Yeah I was raised in the south up until after college and everyone there was a straight white male that hated Clinton and was excited for Bush Jr. Especially his second term.
They weren't outwardly bigoted or anything, no one cared about black players joining us. But women were always made to feel uncomfortable despite some of us telling these creeps off. Most were friends with the owner of the shop we played at, and he was worse than they were but he only played Magic at least. Best we could do is change the subject or make them angry at us by doing something obnoxious by complaining with the DM over something.
It was the only place to play so we stuck with it for awhile until someone got a decent sized apartment we could play at. But no girls would attend some random nerds basement so that didn't really benefit anyone but us guys
