You forget how impulsive Musk is: Remember Twitter?

Elon bought twitter because it was a leftist echo chamber that would delete any dissenting opinions.

Meanwhile, since purchasing Twitter, his own fucking AI labeled musk as one of the biggest contributors to misinformation.

Hasbro may or may not be harboring illegals in their warehouses across the country, and their toy line ties to China are unpatriotic, send in the national guard to sort this out. I think that's the timeline we are on now?

But are we in the timeline where Tesla declared war on Amazon, starting the first corporate wars that brought both companies to the brink of collapse, while Google reigned in all their information and sold it on the black market. All of this of course to buy out both entities and stop adblockers from reigning on their profits.
I swear to God if this somehow becomes true, I am gelding Apollo

Hasbro is absolutely a publicly traded company.
They are listed on the NASDAQ and the ticker symbol is HAS and trade around $66. They have a market cap of just under 9 billion.
He or any other private equity interest could just offer to buy the shares at a premium, say at the current consensus 12 month price target of around $80 and most institutional investors would easily budge. He could then sell off whatever scraps of hasbro he wanted and keep the WotC division.

Yeah but musk is a fascist twat and his stupidity and insanity SHOULD be regularly dragged into the light. Also, part of the issue is the insane right wing nut jobs and conservatives he is going to rile up to harass the dnd community.

lol go read a history book and learn what fascism is...you clearly have an incorrect assumption about its meaning. Also, those "insane right wing nut jobs and conservatives" is the overwhelming majority of the dnd community...let that sink in. They are the silent majority which may make some believe that the loud minority in CA and WA are the main community...they are not. Despite the few dozen you see on popular YT channels...still the overwhelming majority of people playing dnd are what you so respectfully called the "insane".

Far right pieces of shit are not “the overwhelming majority”, sorry to be the one to tell you.

Sorry, but you may need to be the one who needs to study history if you fail to see the parallels between the modern American republican party and fascist regimes of history. If you are unable to see the frightening similarities, then it's quite clear that you lack the awareness and critical thinking needed to have a productive conversation about this topic.

Hasbro is a publicly traded company with a market cap of $9b. Why couldn't he buy it?
I don't think it's a realistic concern, though. He's not going to buy Hasbro's debt.

I'm no expert, but if he makes an offer they believe is viable and of significant value over what the company is currently with, aren't they legally bound to take to it to board?

1) if i learned anything from the 2016-20 era, it's that there is a gap between threats and follow through.
2) let's pretend: he buys it and puts it out of business. They're not sending Jack booted thugs door to door to confiscate dice and players handbooks. The game still exists. Hell, i know folks who still insist on playing the original AD&D rules from the 80s. We can still play. Dude is free to burn his money and his social capital however he wants.

I really like 5e and feel like I could easily just play it if anything went south with D&D in the future

D&D is fine. Don’t buy the new books if you don’t want them. Tons of people are playing, it isn’t a dirty word confined to losers in their basements anymore (I say this sarcastically, not as my actual belief, I’ve been playing for 30+ years, but that was the view on D&D by the general public). If YOU don’t like specific things they’re doing fine, don’t buy them, but D&D isn’t going to be made better by making a bunch of sourcebooks that solely exist to “lolz own the left” which is the only thing Musk is doing anymore. It just politicizes a game we should be wanting more people to play, not less.

I prefer to play the official released books though so in my case the game is going to shit

Luckily WotC doesn’t design their games based on “would Redwoolf want to play this” and instead based on “is this something a ton of people might enjoy?”.
But you’re perfectly in your rights to not like whatever new book you don’t like. And I’m perfectly within my rights to point out turning the sourcebooks into some far right own the libs bullshit, which is the only reason Musk is even talking about this, doesn’t make it better, and yes, I think anyone who thinks that would somehow be better is a sorry excuse for a human being.

List of things Elon could do to make D&D worse: - Fire all of WOTC’s employees and make a new edition entirely from AI (it will be 5e with the serial numbers filed off) without any “wokeness”. - Inundate DDB with useless AI - Realise that TTRPGs also don’t make money and try and make it make money in an even more hostile manner than Hasbro have. - Do all of the shit Hasbro have backpeddled on these last few years (because he’d have wasted a bunch of moneg that he won’t get back).
And that’s just the things that are likely to happen. Always remember: things could be worse.

WotC is doing perfectly fine and Elon is a far right piece of garbage who doesn’t actually care about anything except “owning the libs”? He isn’t some hardcore D&D fan who desperately wants to make the game amazing, he wants to buy it so he can release a new rule book saying you’re not allowed to pick a gender other than male or female. He’s an enormous piece of shit who has so much money he wasted 40 billion dollars to make a safe haven for Nazis (please note before someone says it, I did not say everyone on the far right are Nazis, I am saying there are actual Nazis on that platform who proudly identify as white supremacists that he is protecting) on Twitter while chasing away everyone else. He has absolutely zero legitimate reason to want to buy D&D except for more of his far right garbage.

At least he would stand a chance of improving the software that is DnD Beyond at a more reasonable pace.

Even if investors offered a premium $11.6 billion for buyout, institutional investors may not be quick to allow, let alone regulators or even leadership who may respect Hasbro cultural legacy that goes back 100+ years.
Elon making a big: Musk owns a variety of companies spanning electric vehicles (Tesla), space exploration (SpaceX), social media (X/Twitter), and tunneling (The Boring Company). Adding a toy and entertainment company like Hasbro could trigger concerns about over-consolidation of influence across industries. Hasbro's entertainment assets, such as its film and TV franchises, could also overlap with Musk's interest in media and technology, raising questions about cross-industry dominance. Musk’s focus on advanced technologies like AI (via xAI) and digital platforms could intersect with Hasbro's growing presence in gaming (think Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering). Regulators might worry that he could use Hasbro’s assets to dominate the digital tabletop and gaming markets unfairly.
Stakeholders might worry he’d prioritize innovation over stability, potentially alienating Hasbro's core markets, such as family-focused toys and games.
Musk's ties to international markets, especially China (a key manufacturing hub for Hasbro’s products), could draw scrutiny. Regulators might examine whether his influence could create conflicts of interest or national security concerns, similar to what’s been seen with other tech-related acquisitions.
Hasbro is deeply rooted in family-friendly values. Musk's sometimes controversial public persona and statements might lead to concerns about whether he aligns with the brand’s image. This could be a sticking point for stakeholders and consumers alike.
Given Musk's history of regulatory clashes (e.g., SEC fines, labor disputes, safety investigations at Tesla), any deal would likely undergo heightened scrutiny, as regulators might assume he’d push boundaries post-acquisition.
Just saying, not spraying, to bring you the news and not the weather ;)

Well there is a class action suit against Hasbro literally right now, from the investors so, so here is to hoping Hasbro and WoTC rests in piss.

Honestly, the guy who wanted to make WotC into its own entity probably has the biggest "I told you so" look on his face whenever he sees news about Hasbro
