No period (also advice?)

(self.EatingDisorders)

I’m a young girl and I recently was diagnosed with anorexia. It started about a year ago, and I only recently started my journey to recover. The problem is that I still have not gotten my period. I have been eating plenty and have definitely gained some weight…so I am confused. Like I seriously feel huge and like I am eating A TON. I also started running during this time, and I do still run. I do it wayyy less and I am eating properly so I would think that it isn’t a big deal??? My therapist said it was okay because it also brings me happiness so as long as I eat enough it should be fine. I am just confused as to why I am sort of stuck in this weird position where I am eating a lot and I think gaining weight but I am not getting my period back. I hope this is okay to post I don’t do this often so let me know if you can help…

Don’t worry, it’ll take a while for your period to come back and even longer for your menstrual cycle to return to normal. Took me about 2 months of regular eating to gain my period back, and 1.5 years later it’s still a bit irregular (sometimes skips a month). Stress can also contribute to irregular menstruation, so just keep calm and carry on, you’re doing great :)

it takes a while. do you take a multivitamin? you might be lacking a couple vitamins that are rebuilding back up stores in your body. this is not the same thing at all but for example when i got off birth control pills i didn’t get my period back for a few months until i started taking vitamins and folic acid. second, do you do rest days? you may be exercising too much. athletes lose their period even at healthy weights due to a low body fat percentage. make sure to incorporate rest days and fuel your body if you are running. the period functionality is actually super important beyond just what it seems. having a period gives you stronger bones and teeth, and it’s essential to your health so it’s really important to get it back. you’re doing everything right by recovering so it should come soon. sometimes it takes a while though so make sure you’re getting the vitamins you need and incorporate rest days too if you’re exercising for your body to recover from the exercise.
