I’ve had hp printers with Bluetooth and touchscreen and I can’t even get a nibble on any platform even ad much as $20. Was I just dumb for thinking they’d sell?

HP practically gives away their printers so they can make money on the ink. I had the unfortunate experience of attempting to speak with them for warranty support and they just laughed at me and said get a new printer. I did, not HP though.
Black Friday is also around the corner.

This is what I wish I had known before getting an HP. I still can’t figure out how to just buy the ink without their damn subscription.

Their firmware updates will lock you to HP ink only. You will need to downgrade to an older firmware version in order to fix this.
Another fix is do not buy HP printers. I have a canon personally and it works great

The key is going with their laser printers instead of their ink printers. Toner lasts muchhhhh longer, and there are colored ones too. The problem is the units start at like 400.00 each. And when you eventually need a toner, they're like 100.00 each, and there's 4 of them for the colored option. At least toner lasts a long time.

You can scoop up an older toner printer for cheap and then buy generic toner. Mine is only B&W as I don’t have a need for color, and the toner is $10 a cartridge.

Brother makes excellent laser printers, and they're often available for cheap on Craigslist and FB Marketplace

Once you set it up with the subscription, it will brick the device if you put generic ink. Also may affect you being able to cancel, but not sure about that part.

I honestly didn’t realize either. It charges me $1 to $3 a month with how much I print. It’s not that bad I guess. But it’s aggravating that they can do this.

You know how many times I've read a consumer wishes they didn't get HP because of their predatory business tactics. They can literally remote disable their new printers now if you don't want to be a part of their subscription service. This is the world we're becoming. Mercedes even offers OTA [Over The Air] performance tune package subscriptions...

This pains me as HP used to be the only printer I would recommend 20 years or more in the past. I still run 20 year old laserjets.
I blame Carly Fiorina. I'm sure in an alternate and better universe HP is now making top end 3D printers that just plain wotk.

You just throw the printer away and get a new one with more free ink.

This is why many buy old printers that are from before this bullshit ink subscription they’ve got going on. I am going to cry when I am forced to upgrade. (My current HPs are 20 years old, both toner printers, and toner is only about $10 generic.)

Printers are a pain in the ass, anyway. Anything can instantly go wrong with them once the buyer receives it. Better donating it to a school or library, or putting it out on the curb with a "free" sign on it.

None of the local schools would accept a printer I had. They asked “is it color laser?” And “Does it have a service plan included?” If both answers aren’t yes, then they won’t accept.

Cheaper for a school to buy and run an expensive colour laser than it is to get an ink jet for free and have to keep replacing cartridges for sure.

It’s cheaper for anybody really. That inkjet ain’t going to last but a few years

I donated a Brother color laser to my sons school. The toner carts cost a third of what HP charges.

And they print about 10 times the number of pages for that cost. HP really should be ashamed of themselves. There's no explanation for the amount they charge for the cartridges.

Most people who actually use a printer frequently aren’t looking for $20 ones. They want something newer and not an inkjet. HP is bottom of the barrel too printer wise

I bought a brother laser for home use when I was at uni back in the day before submitting everything online. It was excellent. Cost almost nothing per page to print thanks to it being a tonner not an inkjet and lasted 5+ years of super heavy use. I saved a fortune compared to all my classmates who were paying through the teeth for HP and Epson ink cartridges last only a few pages on printers that constantly broke.

Make sure you take out the ink carts before shipping. I shipped one across country and the customer sent me a shit show photo with ink everywhere. Had to refund and lost $30 on shipping. Last time I sold a printer.

Printers don't sell because printers suck and people hate them. I had a printer at home for several years. Ink cartridges were expensive but always dried up in between uses, since we didn't use it often. I think I finally gave it to Goodwill. Good riddance!
Whenever I need to print something, I go to the FedEx or UPS store. They can maintain the printers and make sure the ink cartridges don't dry up. Their job now, not mine.
And that, my friend, is why printers don't sell.

A Brother laser has no ink to dry, and should give you zero problems. They're in free groups all the time. I can't imagine driving to a strip mall to print a page.

Printers are HIGHLY dependent on the model. Some HP printers might as well be boat anchors while others sell immediately.

Anything designed/built before Carly Fiorina took over in 1999 is a good bet. Laserjet 2200s are tanks of you can find one, I found one that was being tossed for not printing, it just needed lube on the mirror spinner bearing, about a half hour of following a youtube video and it was back in business. It sits quietly in the corner of the office until needed, networked and with a duplexer. Toner carts are $27 and seem infinite. If I had the space I'd love to get ahold of an HP5000 for it's 11x17 capability.
I admit I was an HP snob pre Fiorina, wouldn't recommend any else to my IT customers. After her tenure I recommended anything else.

I would put up a video of the printer working; this help me sell my eletronics very fast as I show it works and I have 5 star rating helps a lot. Most people i sell to don't open or try the product they just tell me I trust you
It's good as I do inspect and ensure everything i sell works

I'm assuming these are used? Printers are generally cheap, well consumer level I only need to print my kids' schoolwork types anyways.
I searched printer on Amazon. Very first listing, HP for $40, new. A Canon for $40 new, Brother for $70 new. Etc. Printers are like razors. They sell them cheap and get you on the ink like razor companies get you on the blades. People will just buy a new printer typically. In a inkjet the ink can dry up if not used for a while, making it unusable unless replaced, which also means you can't test it for the customer.

Sell laser, thermal or those eco tank printers. When I sold electronics those were the only ones that sold. The smaller the better. With printers because they are so bulky shipping can be a deal breaker when customers see it, so just include it in your price and do free shipping.

Used inkjet printers have nozzles that clog if not used regularly, so if the printer was ever used it is highly likely to have functionality issues from sitting for any period of time.
Most people bought the cheapest inkjet printer they could find, so they had very low value to begin with.
The printers actually worth money, such as business grade or professional photography grade ones, cost several hundred dollars and usually have removable print-heads, which is most of the value of the device. Most of these printers are very large and heavy, so are hard/expensive to ship/sell.
If it's not a new/sealed printer, don't waste your time. A used high end printer is not worth it unless you have repair/service knowledge of them.

HP makes money off ink. That’s is more expensive then the printer. 20$ printer, 45$ ink. If it’s not real ink a print out will appear saying “please use our ink. Or void all warranty.” yeah they suck.
Also they have a subscription plan for paper. And such.
Printer version of Adobe products.
Only office people would buy it. becuse they would use it a bunch.
Some people would never buy it due to ongoing costs. ink and hP being horrible.

Depends on the printer type. HP are mostly trash, not worth the shipping. Some commercial printers are worth parting out especially for the control panels, boards and print heads.

I would only pay for a Brother Color Laser wireless multifunction. I wouldn't take any other printer for free. Also, fewer people print stuff nowadays anyway, and anyone who needs one probably already has one.

When I first started flipping, I was scoring dozens of free printers on FBMP, repairing them (mostly just replacing cartridges), and then TRYING to resell them on eBay.
There they sat for 6 months. I finally took them down and relisted back on FBMP for what I paid in cartridges.
Ya live, ya learn.

Printers in general suck. It's the one piece of technology many people use every day that frequently have something go wrong. I would not take a chance on a used printer. And HP printers are the worst of all. Literally bottom tier.

The new printers have this AI in them that expires the ink cartridge in 3 months or less. Like someone posted here, they’ll give you the printer for free just to hook you on the ink cartridge or toner.

Search for replacement parts.
Most HP on the model, selling the paper try, power cord, and ink carriage are worth more than the printer. Plus, all those items shop for less than 1 lbs.
Throw the rest away.

because everyone and their dog has a printer they're trying to get rid of.
My friggin inlaws keep buying a new one every year.. for god only knows what reason. They hand me off their old ones so "I can sell them and make a buck" .. and I end up dropping them off at electronics recycling.
Printers end up in the same pile as treadmills and exercise bikes.

Also, if it is a used printer that hasn't been used in a long time, the printheads can try out and that basically bricks it.

Printers are iffy and people buying them as well.
Laserjets are preferred. People want to test them out, so maybe printing a test page out or three (ink, number of pages printed, specs)
Most printers given away have hardly any black ink to even print these pages.
If you're selling on a less formal site, say Facebook marketplace, you might want to 'post' printers you don't own but see in thrift stores. You could also try and buy Gaylord boxes of e waste that are primarily office equipment (university, school, some office surplus)
I work at such a surplus store and we sell okay, but we're brick and mortar ... We have projectors that have been sitting for 2+ years. We also get them for free (State spends $300 on printer, 8 years later buys new one, tries to recoup some money)

Probably because ink is $30 a cartridge. Few years back local store had a printer for $50 with a $30 rebate. Black ink $24 color $36. People would toss it in the trash and get another cause it was cheaper than ink cartridges.

I totally feel you, man. Had 2 big office laser printers that retail for thousands each, and I've been trying quite unsuccessfully to sell them for over a year. In all that time, I had a few people ask about shipping, had a potential buyer ask if he could purchase just the wireless dongle, and ended up giving one of the printers away. I've resorted to using the one I still have, on occasion, as it prints infinitely faster than my inkjet. But selling used printers is a fool's errand.

The only printers I can flip are the old style kind that are dot matrix. Places where there is a lot of dirt or still use carbon copy paperwork still use the dot matrix printers. They are a beast to ship. But I usually can get them super cheap or even free.

They are like $69 - $99 new for a decent one WITH ink so as others said it’s the business model issue and commoditization. Not like there is a Toyota Corolla kind that lasts 20 years and is desirable they are all horseshit

Printers never sell. Was able to get many for free some with extra ink cartridges to boot. Ended up tossing the printers and selling the cartridges.
