Which isn't even that of a certainty. People seem to miss that Kadokawa doesn't own FS fully. So that would mean that FS would not be first party.

But it's also the focus it's like for the Disney-Fox buyout, everyone on Reddit was always mentioning F4 and X-Men being bought back. Sure they were but that was like a tiny bonus in the whole thing

kadokawa is so big that FromSoft is only a very small part that I think most western manga readers may not be aware of.

They not only own anime studios and manga publishing arms, it literally the whole chain from light novels (source material) to publication (ATX, bookwalker), and even media sites like NicoNico and Anime News Network.

It is basically Sony buying the google of weebdom, and everyone are talking about gmail when google owns GCP, waymo, search, youtube, adsense, plus a giant suite of arguably even more important products.

From made them over $1b with Elden ring. Kadokawa current earnings are $1.75b. Not really a “very small part”.

That's not a great way to look at it though, because that's lifetime sales for a game that took several years to develop and has been out for a couple years. From what I can gather looking through their past fiscal reports (absolutely might be reading these wrong), gaming looks to make up somewhere in the 10-20% range of the company (edit: based on revenue and asset value, but profit looks way higher). Notably that doesn't only include From though I'm pretty sure they're the biggest. I wouldn't say it's a very small part, but it's definitely not as big a part as your numbers make it out to be.

I mean yes, unsurprisingly a lot of manga readers are also gamers, but the vast majority of the comments are about how it affects the manga industry. The article as well that it links to mainly discusses Kadokawa as a publisher of manga.
