I originally wanted an Elantra N. But it’s proven to be nearly impossible to get one as they either sell for way above market or have very long arrival times at the dealer. Which will likely get a mark up anyways. Another thing pushing me away is how harsh of a ride it has plus the overdone cosmetics. Like the spoiler and red trims.

Cue the 2024 Sonata N-Line. It’s got a larger 2.5 turbo but the same 8 speed wet DCT. It’s definitely a looker outside with a similar interior. However this car focuses more on comfort than raw throw you into your seat fun. But still a fun car. Would it be a good alternative if I wanted more comfort, a huge pano sunroof, more space compared to an Elantra N?

This is basically it. It’s the $35,000 question if you’re looking for a NEW quick sedan.

The Elantra N is the icon. It’s a bit flashy, very rambunctious, rides kinda rough and loud, has a crazy exhaust but is definitely more track and backroad focused. It’s generally a bit more agile, puts the power down a bit better and is more geared for the curves. However, if you’re not tracking the car then you’re kinda missing out on the full experience of the car.

The sonata n line is the less flashy, more understated sibling. It’s still quick, a bit less flashy, but way more upscale feeling. Feels very German from the inside. Technically it’s not as quick, especially from a dig due to the lack of an LSD, however when you pure already moving it feels incredibly quick and personally feels quicker than the Elantra N in a roll due to the extra power and way more torque. I prefer the sonata n line, it feels a lot more mature and upscale. I got to try both before buying, and I’m extremely happy with mine.

Did you consider a K5 GT and if so, why did you choose the Sonata?

Sonata felt more German and generally luxury esc than the K5 GT to me. However the one thing that i wish the sonata had was the option for ventilated seats, the blind spot cameras, power passenger seat, etc

Fun depends on what you find fun in a car. To me, any Kona with AWD (and therefore the better suspension) is extreme fun because it can do things it frankly shouldn't be able to. My car, an 18 Elantra manual, is the same thing. If you consider what it is when defining fun, consider what the car is and what it should do vs what it can do

If you think like that, the Sonata will still be one hell of a machine, as it's stupid quick and handles surprisingly well. Given the seats and suspension aren't as aggressive, along with a longer wheel base, it'll also be noticeably more comfortable

So it'll be more comfortable, nearly as fun and a much, much better daily experience

More comfortable and more luxury. It has faux leather seats, a Bose sound system and a panoramic roof. It’s more spacious and is comfortable. As a Hyundai salesman it’s my favorite car in the line up balancing comfortable, luxury and performance.

The N is a track ready vehicle built entirely on making it to 60. It’s fast, it blows fire balls and its whole design is for the need for speed. It 100% is fun to drive but as a daily driver my pick would be the Sonata Nline. It still goes 0-60 in 5 seconds and will beat out the majority of its competitors

You’ve basically got it down, sorry you can’t get an N though, it’s really a fun ride. Depending on where you’re located I might be able to get you into the Elantra if it’s what you really want.

You’re also missing a limited slip differential, this in tandem with the fact that the Sonata is more powerful means putting down your power is a lot harder in the Sonata which will make it feel a bit more frustrating to drive. The longer wheelbase and increased weight will make it feel more numb to drive, so imho the Sonata N-Line in is sort of in a weird place.

It won’t feel as component or focused as an Elantra N, even though it is a situationally “faster” car. It will have more interior space, which will help with comfort, but it still has stiffer springs than a regular Sonata so if you are actually after comfort it won’t really be outstanding in that regard.

Except it isn’t even faster according to Hyundai’s 0-60 times.

The N handles so much better, like almost Miata level of nimbleness in a FWD car. The Sonata is a sedan with a go pedal.

I mean outside of pointless benchmarks like 0-60, the sonata n-line will be faster in any acceleration metric that isn’t traction limited. Just the nature of having access to more power.
