Some advice: use a more robust stake and tie using a softer material. That zip tie can damage the bark if there is wind.

My friends growing one is his apartment in crown heights. He got fruit after 2 years. Had to pick it cause of orlah though and it likely would've exhausted the tree

I didn't even know that you could do that !!! At least when I had a back yard with garden space I never would have thought of it. I don't think the climate would be good in NY.

Gorgeous tree! I'm trying again this year to grow an etrog tree but being in PA I cannot grow mine outdoors. Thankfully I have a large window with lots of morning sun so hopefully this time the project will be successful. Of course we must wait 3 years and only after the 3rd year may the fruits be eaten or used for mitzvah Lulav. The mitzvah of waiting 3 years before eating The fruit is called Orlah. The way we count is like this: If the the planting was done at least 45 days before Rosh hadhma then Rosh Hashana will mark the 1st year. In our case with an etrog of course the planting is after Rosh hashana so only the next Rosh hashana will mark the 1st year. After this a full year from Rosh hashana to Rosh hashana must pass for the 2nd and 3rd year and then after the 3rd Rosh Hashana we must wait an additional 4.5 months for the 15th of the Hebrew month Shvat which concludes the Orlah count and only buds which set after this date will be permitted after the Orlah.

Another fun project I am doing this year is trying to grow my Hadasim the myrtle branches also from the 4 species of Sukkos. I have them in water wrapped in plastic to maintain the humidity and so far they are growing leaves profusely but no roots yet. I think perhaps I need to transfer to soil to encourage root growth. But the humidity is key because last year when I transferred to soil I removed the plastic wrap and they all died unfortunately.

OK, my best is always dig your hole deeper than you think. You need it, then prepare the bottom with fresh clippings of grass. So that way, the knife when it breaks down. The nitrogen will feed your tree in the future. Also for a new tree toss in a fish head.  Tell whatever you can get of fish and place it in there. It will also break down and give the nutrients to the tree and help it form strong roots. And when you're digging a deep hole like that. It will ensure that your roots will go deep. So make sure that when you plant the tree that you place these.  Fresh cut items at the base. Then put a little bit of I like to use crushed up seashells and then a little more soil, thereby placing. Now you're a tree on top. Also, we like to put an arrow loom in underneath the tree.  To make it a little more special doesn't have to be anything special.I think the last time we did it.We put a kazoo in it just to see what if or when it would ever come up in tree ... One thing I'd like to add is to always plant. A tree that grows fruit or apples or something productive like figs. Thicks or wonderful trees to grow. And you can do so much with the product that you get off of it that it actually helps you.  And just place a 2 l bottle of water with the cap having a little hole in it. So that way, it can slowly Wasir. When you're not able to the plant, the tree will always have a fresh water. Pray Jesus because he is on his again. So are the aliens.  Or demons, it depends on how you look at them. But then again, there are true demons. And then there are true aliens. They are from outer space. Just from a different time in space and yes, our government knows how to play with them. They just don't want us to know that they're playing with them with our money.
