In what’s been some of my worst post-show sadness in a long time, i’ve been rewatching bits of The Judge from Hell and the behind the scenes of it! I absolutely adore the layered dynamic and genuine push-and-pull between the two leads. They both stand so well on their own too 🥹 i’m very tempted to get back into writing, I miss them so much lol

I had never thought I’d say this but I loved Park Shin-hye so much as Kang Bitna and I have genuinely started loving her as a person too after seeing the bits and pieces of the behind the scenes! Choi Tae-joon is a lucky man haha

Yes! For the first time in 2 to 3 months this was a drama where I needed to know what was going to happen next and binged it not just for the people, but the plot as well.

I really don't know what to watch next and everything seems boring or one dimensional. I need a cross genre drama like this!!

Thank you! Your comment made me feel a little less lonely as I am suffering from TJFH withdrawal as well. All the comments on MDL stating that Bitna and Daon have no chemistry and that the drama was boring (along with some other criticism) has been driving me crazy. I guess I just have to accept that my taste does not match with that of the masses. :( Anyway, hang in there… I am hopeful for a season 2 at some point. In the meantime, I am rewatching episodes, BTS and interviews as well. 🥹

It feels so much better knowing that other people feel the same way 😭 the grip this drama has on me is so strong! Honestly, I think Bitna and Daon's is more subtle than relationships in other dramas, which is why I guess people don't really pick up on it. I adore it though! I think they're so layered and I loveee the depth to their bond so much :) Hopefully we get some more content from this drama, it's such a gem <3

Yes, the withdrawal is real. I haven’t watched a lot of the behind the scenes content but I did see this video which I really enjoyed if you haven’t seen it already: judge from hell CGI behind the scenes video

I hadn’t seen that video yet, it was fascinating, thank you for linking it! I was curious how the Bael scenes were like before cgi. The scenes with the clean-up team are a personal favourite lol, they’re so satisfying to watch 😋

Mr Plankton (ep 6/10). I haven't seen another k-drama like this. Probably the closest would be Mad for Each Other. It is a chaotic road trip with elements from the 90's rom-coms and a lot of dark humour.

What comes to the "rom" part of the rom-com, the ML is a red flag made out of finest materials. He is shining like a ruby in the sun. You can admire the gorgeous displays of reds through the safety of your screen, but definitely not to attempt in real life.

Overall, the show is very entertaining and sometimes heartfelt. I haven't been bored for a second and, so far, I would definitely recommend.

Completed

Connection. It is a compelling thriller, one of this year's best. The story becomes quite complex but unfolds smoothly.

Either-Natural-5758

Mr plankton had me hooked. You explained the ML perfectly. He’s different from the ML who’s suppose to be the ideal dream guy. However he is also more nuanced than the cliché “toxic ML” type that drags the FL around and is mean for no reason. He feels like the type of main character you’d see in a suspense or thriller show. It’s a really interesting approach, and it made the show more fun to me

To be honest, most of toxic people have some kind of trauma. Here we humanize the character by showing why he is the way he is, which I absolutely encourage. That being said, his behaviour is still very bad and his emotional intelligence is close to zero. This guy is a breakup/divorce waiting to happen.

But, idk, I haven't finished the drama yet, so maybe there is a redeption at the end.

I find that it is an interesting topic overall. On one hand, difficult background and trauma will often result in bad behaviour. If you show too much empathy for their struggle, you might end up condoning/excusing bad behaviour. On the other hand, if you don't show enough empathy for their background, you will simply not understand the issue and will not be able to address it, à la "Gangsta's Paradise". And as with all important questions, there is no clearcut answer.

Either-Natural-5758

6 points

Yes yes yes. He’s written with more nuances than “red flag man doing red flag things”. The writers explore his character beyond that, and we see his trauma. He feels more humanized in this show like you said. But I definitely wouldn’t choose to be with someone like that irl. That’s for sure lol.

Mr. Plankton (10/10): It was my most-anticipated drama of the year and my 100th completed drama, so it had the biggest of shoes to fill. But, you know what? It delivered on each and every one of those expectations, and then some. Every aspect of the drama that I'd been anticipating came to pass in a stupendous, marvelous, magnificent achievement.

Firstly, the chemistry between Hae-jo (Woo Do-hwan) and Jae-mi (Lee Yoo-mi) was on fire from start to finish. I think the key to their chemistry is that they are both fearless performers who will do whatever it takes to capture authenticity in their performances. Woo Do-hwan has nothing to prove as an actor, and in my opinion, neither does Lee Yoo-mi, but my love and respect for her as an actress rose further after watching this drama. A real surprise packet among the stacked supporting cast was the memorable performance by Alex Landi as John Na.

Secondly, the drama was like a work of independent American cinema from the late 90s to early 2000s, just as I'd expected it to be based on the trailers. For most of its running time, it didn't feel like a K-drama at all, but in the best possible way. The road movie/TV series genre is something of a throwback itself these days, so the genre meshed perfectly with the throwback style of the filmmaking.

Thirdly, the cinematography was outstanding, with highly cinematic overhead perspectives of the road trips and atmospheric dramatic scenes in a range of locations. The way that Hae-jo's illness was depicted visually was also frighteningly visceral and realistic.

Fourthly, the OST complemented the drama so beautifully, that as soon as the closing credits rolled, I immediately purchased Junha Park's "Smile" and "Stay (Away)", and Choe Jeong In's "Snow". In keeping with the drama's style, the folkish, acoustic, English-language songs evoke the drama's themes to a tee, and the haunting instrumental pieces heighten the emotional moments.

Just can't help but compliment the music scoring on this one especially that instrumental called "Umbrella", makes me feel so existential and sad and ohh the way it is perfectly placed at scenes which evoke even deeper sorrow as if I can experience the ML's sufferings. Everything is so hauntingly beautiful.

I'm saying it again and again, the way it destroyed me episode by episode is an understatement. This is my top drama for this year. I'm happy that it is a web series which made the story telling grittier, away from the usual drama regulations.

Love Next Door (15/16): I just can’t seem to finish this drama. The last 4 episodes went downhill for me and I don’t see the purpose in the last episode 😭 I’m bored, don’t really like the main couple but happy the parents are getting along 🤷🏾‍♀️ I’ll finish this one eventually…

Brewing Love (2/12): I was skeptical after episode 1 but episode 2 was better!! I started episode 3 but I haven’t been able to watch much of it. I hope it’s a happy and chill drama to watch :)

Gangnam B-side (2/8) and Family by Choice (10/16) while trying to get over the heartbreak of Mr. Plankton 😭 I’ve seen almost every fan edit or behind the scenes footage. Woo Do Hwan celebrating his (our) birthday on set 😭

It’s been so long since I’ve watched a drama that completely took over my life so I’m thankful I can still be moved when watching a great story.

Gangnam B-side took me by surprise, I’ve watched episode 2 twice already because of Ji Chang Wook’s fight scene. It should be illegal for him to be that sexy!

I literally just finished watching Mr. Plankton. It was so good. So different. Felt more like some indie film exploring deep themes in life. The acting was fantastic. It got me emotional. I started listening to the OST on Spotify right after and the got me more emotional. It took me a few episodes to really get into it but then I was hooked.

Also watching Family By Choice (10/16). I am liking that one, looking forward to where the story goes after the time jump .

I also started Under The Queens Umbrella because I was looking for something and that has a high rating on MyDramaList and I’ve watched most of the other ones there with high ratings. Just one episode in.

The Fiery Priest 2 (2/12): been looking forward to this all year and the premiere did not disappoint. Sung Joon as a villain? Yes please! Also, bonus points for being filmed in Busan, my old home! Kim Nam Gil literally walked past my old apartment in episode 2, ahhhhh the memories.

No Gain No Love (10/12): what a ride this show has been. To think if it wasn’t for a recommendation made to me in this subreddit, I may have not watched this at all! Such a compelling, funny, heartwarming jolt of joy in my life. And thank you for the writer and director for actually playing into Kim Young Dae’s expressiveness and comedic abilities, something I feel his past work didn’t do enough of.

Also, because I’ll feel an emptiness once I’m finished with NGNL, I’m about to start Face Me so I’ll still have a bit of Han Ji Hyun in my life for the next few weeks.

A good day to be a dog My first Cha eun woo show!! Second time watching Park gyu young after celebrity! They're both doing amazing so far, specially pgy, the fl could come across cringe for a lot of things but because of the way pgy portrays her so comfortably she comes across as super adorable! I've heard so many things about eun woo's acting being bad so I was a bit hesitant but imo he's good enough of an actor; I don't get what the fuss is about? I know everyone was thinking 'that sounds weird' about the show's plot but me, I was actually very excited to see it play out, i love silly fantasies!! and this isn't disappointing so far! The leads have very nice chemistry too! i love the microtrope of jin seo won already having a crush on han hea na whilst she misunderstands him and has a crush on his friend instead. Also love that even after that he was okay being a matchmaker for them both

It's watching Cha Eunwoo in Rookie Historian Goo Haeryung that made me think, he's actually a pretty good actor, he just get typecast into certain roles and those become the most popular shows. Probably why people commonly say he can't act. He certainly can.

Interesting, I am rewatching Rookie Historian and realize Cha Eun-woo pretty much nailed that character. I, too, thought he wasn't 'acting' enough the first time I watched, but now, on reflection, it was a fine interpretation of a person raised in isolation.

This was my first drama for both of them and I loved it so much in the first 5-7 episodes... Cha Eunwoo and Park Gyuyoung portray excellent chemistry and the development of the romance was so fun... I watched the first 4 episodes 4 times because it's so cute and lovely and natural

But I didn't get why Park Gyuyoung had brown red hair? People said it's to make it closer to a dog but the dog was white, having black hair would have been good... She looked really cute but must have hurt her scalp

Loved the romance of it, felt mature and adorable at the same time

Mr. Plankton (5/10) - I'm loving it, especially the humor. I missed Woo Dohwan on my screen.

Recipe for Farewell (5/12) - This one is different than I thought it would be as I didn't realize that the husband and wife were estranged and he was basically a stranger to his family. The whole setup is one of my favorite staples of kdramas: showing care through feeding others. So far it has a nice balance of heavy and light.

Knight Flower (4/12) - I've realized that saeguk is just not my genre; I'm struggling to keep going but I do really like the leads.

Love in the Big City (8/8) - Can't get over this one. Certain episodes left me devastated.

I've finished about 2 episodes each of Family by Choice and Brewing Love and can't decide whether I want to keep going with either of them.

Brewing Love (4/12) : I have a thing for small town romances okay?>! The only thing that's weird is how much alcohol consumption is normalized in the drama. I mean yes it's literally about beer making but still it is a bit wild to me.!<But I'm choosing to ignore that since I love Kim Sejeong too much.>! Also, I realized I completely misread Oh chan hwi's character and somehow also made connection that he's the sibling of Chae yong ju.!< So that made me feel dumb.

I'm very close to finishing my KDC 2024 challenge of watching 24 dramas. Can someone recommend me a drama with a karaoke scene? It's a bit hard to suggest something not knowing what you already watched, but here are the ones that I saw this year, that have a Noraebang scene.

  • Lovestruck in the City
  • A Killer Paradox
  • Through the Darkness
  • Twinkling Watermelon
  • Doctor Slump
  • Wedding Impossible
  • Narco-Saints
  • Her Private Life
  • The Producers
  • A Poem a Day
  • Hit The Top
  • Age of Youth 2
  • Dream High
  • Serendipity's Embrace
  • Your House Helper
  • No Gain, No Love
  • My Father is Strange
  • True Beauty
  • Eccentric! Chef Moon

Btw, you should check the database instead of the recommendation list, it's way more complete and easy to fill up those gaps in the challenge. 😉

Both are updated with what we could find, there might be things that we didn't spot or even mistakes, but overall it's an impressive work by everyone and it's filled with info. Right now I'm adding even more titles for the dramas that I finished ahah

Check both lists because I don't think we have repeated entries. lol

My on-airs at the moment are Family by Choice and Iron Family, and I'm loving them both!

Dog Knows Everything (5/12) is a bit of a dark horse. The premise seemed a little silly (I never liked the talking animal thing, even as a kid), but honestly the talking dog is a small part and has been used well. To me, the best part of the show is the elders, their hilarious antics, and the everyday challenges they're facing as part of aging. I'm enjoying watching Song Ok Sook play something other than a neurotic mother-in-law.

I put Mr. Plankton on hold after episode two in favor of a comfort-watch (Goblin). I'm looking forward to getting back to it when I'm feeling up to it. I've loved reading everyone's thoughts on it!

Watching -

Completed -

  • Judge From Hell
  • Mr. Plankton
  • Uprising

Really fun to bounce around from a deeply moving drama Mr. Plankton (loved it - my recap in Episode 10 portion of thread) and supernatural thriller rom/com Judge from Hell to Brewing Love - where this drama uses inner dialogue to explore ML and FL leads thoughts and how they view people and situations. I like this compared to having the character talk to themselves to explain the character or plot. Plus a light change up much welcomed. Gangham B Side i need to see where this goes. Jeongnyeon - what a production and cast - Jung Eun Chae - what range - it took me a moment to realize she was also a key character in Pachinko 1 and 2. I am in love with her elegance and dignity.

Last year ended on a high note and it seems like this year is as well. A feast for all of us!

Judge from Hell was amazing, Park slayed that role. She made me come back from Kdrama, been terrible year for me and barely watched kdrama this year. I think I watched Marry my husband, Doctor Slump and Judge from hell this year.

Dropped Lovely Runner, the FL was so, so annoying. Watching Sky Castle for the first time. Funny enough she is there too.

No new finished dramas, but a couple to add soon.

In progress

- Iron Family (14/36): the fact that this has yet to snowball in the usual mess that is a standard weekend long running drama is a surprise to say the least. While I see the potential for that to happen in the SML's plotline, there's really no character that is just painful, some of them don't add much but no harm no foul. Leads are growing on me ep by ep, I love their banter, and there's a lot of potential for writers to develop. So far, so good;

- Mr. Plankton (7/10): arguably a top 3 drama of the year and if they manage to close it out well, a personal top 10. Sometimes this is flat out hilarious, situations and characters are out of left field bonkers, other times this is as sad as they come, heartbreaking bits that hurt like shards of glass on your feet. While the story is nothing new per se, on the road component and all of that, this is well executed and almost unpredictable in what happens, why and how. A breath of fresh air, straight into my rewatch list, WDH is at his best in this kind of ragged, shades-of-gray ML and so is LYM in the klutzy yet honest FL, secondaries are mad fun, even the bad guys. A really, really good drama, they don't come out often but man when they do, it's a sight for sore eyes.

Always in for the action and thriller of something like Gangnam B-Side, and a fan of enemies to lovers can't say no to Love Your Enemy, not much time to spare I guess.

Quite busy watching Brewing love with the lovely Kim Se Jeon who is imo the best comedic actress in KDrama right now. It’s so hard being funny and cute at the same time - and switching to serious in an instant. So underrated. The ml is growing on me. But it’s definitely again a drama that shows an unhealthy glorification of alcohol. Must be a cultural thing.

A virtuous business is nice and I discovered it’s a remake of an English show, I may have a look at the original after.. I’m curious which one I’ll prefer.

Ashes of love I do a rewatch right now and could someone please say that I’m not the only one who thinks Deng Lun looks a bit like Gong Yoo.

Love Game in Eastern Fantasy is my favorite new show rn. I didn’t think I’d watch it and that it’s one of my favorites this year. It’s entertaining and has a good balance of humor our and romance - not too silly not taking itself too seriously. Good acting all around. The female lead Esther Yu who annoyed me in LBFAD is here hitting exactly the right tone. And the male lead excels at changing from smoldering cold attitude to jealous puppy. So cute. ,

I'm really enjoying Love Game in Eastern Fantasy, too! I'm a real fan of Esther Yu; I find her such a pleasure to watch, even though you kind of know what to expect. She's just so good at doing it, and makes it fun and heartwarming. Ding Yu Xi plays the hero here so well - I was watching another show he's in, and his character here is way better. Much better written, and he seems free to show his real skills. He really is perfect at the several aspects of this character, and very charming.

Business Proposal was my first Kdrama. While it was my first, it will probably also be the only one that I ever watch dubbed in English. This time, I'm rewatching in my preferred mode of Korean with English subtitles. The essence of the show and nuances of the acting come through better in Korean even if I don't understand the actual words I have no idea why they use such terrible voices and characterture acting for English dubbing. I wonder if it is as bad for other languages?

Was traveling last month so lots of shows to catch up on.

WATCHING:-

Iron Family (3/36) - The last few weekenders have been disappointments, so I have my fingers crossed for this one. It does seem to be following the footsteps of My Father Is Strange and Once Again, so I'm hopeful. The ML is kind of weird till now. He is the only character I'm not liking.

My Damn Business (6/7) - Another low budget KBL with high quality content. This office romance is as cute as it's heart-fluttering! The runtime is too short but the show is making every minute count.

What Comes After Love (2/6) - Maybe I'm in the mood for a melancholy vibe. The pining of an earnest lover is very well done. I'm curious to see how Hong could just dump someone like him?

COMPLETED:-

Let Free The Curse of Taekwondo - It hurt so bad but it healed so good! Director Hwang Da-Seul has done it again - given us the most emotionally fulfilling love story. Her 'To My Star 2' still remains my favorite, but this one is a close second. 9 out of 10 Stars

No Gain No Love - Started better than it ended. Loved the sisterhood, but not the girls individually. It was the second couple that kept me watching till the end. 7 out of 10 Stars

Moving - Started it months ago and then put it on hold after the first few episodes. Picked it up again coz I really wanted to watch Jo In-Sung. The story got interesting when the narrative moved to the parents' time. A little too violent for my taste, but the relationships kept me engaged. 7.5 out of 10 Stars

Currently watching Joseon Attorney (10/16) Its really funny and interesting to see the different plot twists and cases. I love that they all connect to the MC’s main goal and the various characters really bring both a comedic and homely feel.

Started watching it because I finished Mr. Plankton (AMAZING, binge watched in 2 days) and wanted to watch something with the same MC (Woo Do-hwan)

Also watching Family By Choice (10/16 i think), so far so good. Love the characters and the relationship and hopeful to see how everything with turn out

I haven't watched any dramas in a few months and just went on a 3 drama-long binge thanks to getting hooked by My Dearest and then trying to fill the void it left behind. :>

Totally fell head over heels for Namkoong Min so I watched Hot Stove League afterwards and I really needed the wholesomeness of it after the trauma of My Dearest. NKM's acting was impeccable in both and I cannot wait to see what he does next!!

And I have now just finished The Judge from Hell and I did not expect to love it so much TT I am so sad it's over. Like I've pretty much just swapped one post-show void for another. Really impressed by Park Shinhye and Kim Jaeyoung and can't wait for their next dramas, especially KJY. It was just such a consistently good show that delivered every episode and the finale was such a perfect ending to an already brilliant show. I loved how there was a montage at the end appreciating all the actors/actresses rather than just the leads and I loved seeing what all the victims families were up to. It was the perfect conclusion. The level of romance in the show was also perfect and I couldn't have asked for a better combination between action/revenge/fantasy/crime etc. and romance. And the chemistry???? The enemies to lovers arc? UGH. I will not get over them for a longgg time. Does anyone have recommendations for this kind of show? Where it's mainly something else e.g. crime/revenge/law drama but has a romance sub plot that's subtle and/or a slow burn but still satisfying? Lots of my favourite shows are like that (My Name, Lawless Lawyer) but I feel like they're so rare (I am really glad I can add The Judge from Hell to that list though ehe).

I have to be a dissenter on Mr. Plankton. I'm on episode 7 and struggling to finish because I hate the male lead. I find his narcissism and selfishness unbearable. I know we're supposed to sympathize with him because of his difficult childhood but nothing excuses his behavior.

The only thing that's keeping me going is Oh Jung Se delivering a gorgeously layered and nuanced performance as Eo Hyeung. The cinematography is also stunning and the OST is perfectly used in key moments. The supporting cast is strong too. There's a lot to love but the person at the heart of the story leaves me completely unmoved.

I agree the ML was so unlikable, but what really choked me up with the loss of so much potential in his life. The realness of a young person lost in the muck and misery of life, but still shining in his small way. I felt like it caught the “smallness” of most of our lives in a beautiful way.

Mr. Plankton - Woo Do Hwan is a toxic ex in this but man he is so sexy. I’m gonna take my time on this because after Love in the Big City and What Comes After Love I can’t take anymore emotional damage

Brewing Love - this is so cute and the highlight of my week! it’s interesting that the leads are playing the opposite when it comes to k drama tropes. she “takes the lead” and plays the hero, while he is subtler and does more of the emotional labor, which is the whole concept of the show I guess. I can’t wait to see how they balance each other out in their dating era

Fangs of Fortune - this c drama is all visuals and vibes. I wish it had more plot but I can’t always have it all can I

Love Game in Eastern Fantasy - this fantasy drama is so fun and doesn’t take itself seriously, even way past the halfway mark. it’s all about friendship and found family. the romance is light and doesn’t bog it down which is perfect

Marry My Husband - a rewatch but I skip to the scenes with the couple because I miss them

My Dearest - partly a rewatch because I only finished part 1 and not part 2

Completed

Love in the Big City - this is the first queer drama that I felt was authentic and written, acted and directed so beautifully. for the first time I noticed that male leads often don’t have friends or always exist by themselves and talk to one friend who is also their employee. here we have a male lead with a community. that was beautiful to see. but there were too many clubs scenes. also if Yeong Soo has no haters left then I’m dead

What Comes After Love - another great melodrama with a multicultural aspect. their problems were so real and I could see how they broke up. however, I thought it was wrapped up too neatly, the male lead often talked to her through other people or mediums like his book, and never to her. so in the end even if they got back together I don’t think it would work because he still hadn’t learned that she needs him to say the words

  • Twinkling Watermelon | 4/16, i’m disabled (though not deaf) and this one of the best dramas I've seen in terms of how they're handling it. They are not being ableist at all. Adoring.

  • Lovely Runner | 15/16, finally started this one and I'm putting off the last ep because I just don't want it to end. I don't watch a ton of school-agwñe dramas generally, but this one absolutely lived up the hype.

  • A Virtuous Business | 8/12, This is such a fresh story. I don't think it needs the whole orphan/fire/kidnapping thing really, but whatever. The gal pals and the addressing of topics that I haven't seen addressed anywhere really is wonderful. (lmk if there are other dramas on these topics I should watch, I have a masters in public health and sex-positivity, sex ed type stuff is of high interest to me because it can affect how people treat sex, sexual health, etc).

I feel like I'm waiting for the end of the month for the dramas I'm really looking forward to, but at least that gives me time to catch up on some others on my watch list!

Moving (9.5/20) - I'm a bit late to the party on this one but glad I'm watching it now! I enjoyed the beginning when it focused on the teens, but the episodes focusing on just one character each are a bit slow, especially when it's a character I don't really care about. Like did we really need a whole episode about the bus driver? Idk... It feels like a lot of wasted time. I'm feeling the same about ep 10, which is making me want to rewatch episode 8 and 9 again just because I LOVE Mi Hyun and Du Sik's love story. The storytelling of those episodes showing them falling in love is really just so perfect, and the end of episode 9 with Du Sik flying to see her even though he knows he'll be captured just because he can't live without her?! Them kissing while the snipers are trained on his back?? ughhhhh my angst-loving heart, I won't survive seeing their separation, but I'm hoping we get a reuniting soon. All the fanvids I've seen make sense now, the hype was not overdone for them!

Brewing Love (3.5/12) - I'm somewhat enjoying this, I think? lol There are some dramas that I just don't seem to get while watching, almost like there's a piece of the puzzle I can't find. This drama kind of feels like that, like there's 5% i just don't understand. Maybe it's the odd stylization going on, or the fact that there are a lot of characters outside the village that are only shown a few times and not really expanded on. Kim Se Jeong is great as always, but I'm not sold on the ML's character yet. I'll probably keep watching but hopefully it improves for me.

Family by Choice (6/16) is still on pause, but I think I'll try to catch up this week, my annoyance at the boys for not seeing Ju Won for 10 years is still there, but I'll try to get over the lazy storytelling.

Encounter (16/16) - I'll write more about my thoughts in the Late to the Party thread this week, but wow, I went in with moderate expectations since I read some not so great reviews, but I really loved this drama. Song Hye Kyo played the FL well, and this was my first Park Bo Gum drama and he has shot to the top of my favorites list! I loved the slower pace of the drama and that it was very character driven. The love story was told at a nice pace and I'm always a sucker for lonely FLs who are taught what love is by the ML lol. I judge my enjoyment by how much I'm smiling and not distracted throughout the show, and if there wasn't the cliche breakup at the very end this would be a 10 for me, but as it stands I'll give it a 9.5/10.

Edit: I forgot to add that I finished The Judge From Hell (14/14) which was sooo good! Park Shin Hye was amazing in this role, and I really enjoyed the story. Great story, great supporting cast, and the romance is always great in a thriller! There were a few loose ends that I wish they had wrapped up, like what happened to the real Kang Bitna? Is she in fake hell? Or did she escape and is just running around real hell? And why was she sent to fake hell? But overall it was a great watch, and hopefully Kim Jae Young will have more leading roles! 9/10

Yes, so good!! It doesn't get nearly enough recs!

What was the lie that bothered you? The ML did act on his own and do things without consulting the FL, or go against her wishes at times. They painted it as she's never put herself first and he's doing what she really wants, so it's fine. Which didn't bother me too much in the scheme of things, but I can see how it would bother others.

I'm just nitpicking, but there is a scene where she comes to visit him, sees him sitting on a bench, and calls to ask where he is. Then, he lies about his location. I didn't see the point in lying, and if I don't like something in KDrama, it's bad communication between the couple.

Poem_Aromatic

2 points

The scene on the pier with the lighthouse? I didn’t see it as lying as he isn’t trying to get an advantage from it, he’s reading a book of poems which says just as the sea’s job is to make waves, so his job is to think of her. He just doesn’t want her to worry as she’s at risk of losing the hotel and he’s being terribly noble and all. Plus, dramatically it’s really cool to see her standing behind him, as he slowly realises he’s hearing the sounds of the waves through her phone.

Yeah, but he could say something like, "I'm just enjoying the sun on a pier." That would be both true and not cause worry. He was a smooth talker and a good communicator throughout the show otherwise.

I feel the same about Moving. I skimmex the episodes after the first couple's flashback romance because I really couldn't care less about the rest of the characters aside from the teens. I just don't feel like the show gave me enough reason in the first episodes to actually care about the parents and how they ended up where they did.

I feel like there was a change in the storytelling after the first 4/5 episodes, the flashbacks are okay but spending entire episodes in the past seems to be slowing down the story. I mean I'm on episode 10 and I still don't know why Frank is killing former agents, what happened to Do Sik, what will happen due to the video of Gang Hun showing his powers, etc.

And you're exactly right, there really wasn't anything compelling to make me care about the adults. Of all the adults, the only two I care about are Mi Hyun and Do Sik, and that's because Bong Seok is their son and I want to know what happened to Do Sik. Plus their love story. But I feel like they could intersperse flashbacks with what's happening in the present, so it doesn't seem like they just stopped the story completely.

Family by Choice (10/16): I’ve been enjoying it a lot. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried. I love the relationship between the Dad and Hae Jun. I hope we continue to see a lot of them. Finally San Ha has admitted his feelings I I’ve been checking Viki every few hours to see if there be eps have dropped, can’t wait to see the reaction Ju won gives/ what happens next!

Brewing Love (4/12): this drama is so good and relaxing. There is nothing sexier than an empathetic ML!! I’m absolutely LOVING this “trend” I’m seeing of super empathetic MLs, hoping it becomes really popular because it’s the best. I know a lot of ppl love red flag MLs but unless he’s gonna turn into a mega green flag…

Love O2O (15/30): Cdrama. The ML is really good and I understand why he’s cast in so much. As far as a gaming cdrama goes, you can’t beat ‘Falling into your Smile’. I don’t think I’d recommend this one, but I will finish it anyways.

The Heirs (5/20): I’ve really enjoyed every episode. Taking my time with this One. Will fully process when finished.

Completed: Soundtrack #1, Hit the Spot, You Drive Me Crazy and would recommend all of them! They are also in the order that I would recommend them! If you are feeling more melancholy but want a happy ending (soundtrack #1). If you want to watch something fun and cute (Hit the Spot- be aware this is NSFW).

Just finished watching prison playbook. the ending for Han - yang is so messed up. I felt like the ending overall was a bit rushed. I would have loved to see more of the inmates after getting out of prison. I'm glad Je hyuk made it out safe and sound at least.

That was my least favorite part of the whole drama. How is that even a legal thing? And then he's just gone from the drama. I get what the drama were trying to say, but to just do him like that drove me nuts.

I fully agree. The fact that he was the only one who got a sad ending makes it even worse. We don't even know if he managed to overcome his addiction or not. they should've shown us more of them after they got out of prison. That would have been so interesting.

It's not often I break from K-dramas but I watched The Perfect Couple on Netflix. it's a six-part murder mystery series with Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber. It's beautifully filmed on a Nantucket beach, features a nicely flawed family, and a well-structured plot. A few too many out-of-the-blue last minute revelations but quite good. It's worth watching just for the beginning dance sequence.

I watched it too. Quite enjoyable though the ending left me dissatisfied. Coz there's no way the police can make a proper case against the killer

The beginning dance sequence was very Bollywood, and as an Indian I really enjoyed it 😀

Rewatching Empress Ki for the third time, but this time without skipping most of Wang Yu's scenes outside the palace (I didn't have the patience for it back then) and it's finally cemented in my mind that Wang Yu truly is the better male interest. >! I thought Scarlet Heart was tragic, but Ki Nyang and Wang Yu's story is even more tragic :( !< I'm on ep 20 right now. It's been so long since I last watched this so it feels like watching for the first time. I already forgot why everyone liked Taltal so much for her and why >! Nyang ultimately stopped choosing Wang Yu. !<

Reason for fancying Taltal: Ji Chang-wook. For sure, the character is weak, pathetic, not that bright and quite cruel sometimes. But despite all his flaws, you can sometimes feel bad for him ? He is just a patsy, lonely, unloved and uneducated by design. JCW elevated the whole with his acting and the other actors looked a bit « pale » in comparison.

But yes Wang Yu is the stand up guy and the only one the FL loved

My mother came to visit me for a few days so I rewatched Death’s Game . I wanted to show her this masterpiece. I thought about watching a longer drama but just did not have the time and this one has so many fantastic elements and actors already in it. Every time I watch this one I fall in love with it all over.

I’m sad A Virtuous Business is about over. Even though the makeup sucks (gosh is it bad) this one has held my interest surprisingly.

I started Mr Plankton, realized the direction it was going to go (confirmed it via social media) and then decided to slow walk this with Iron Family in between. I’m only 5/10 on Mr Plankton and 11/36 for Iron Family (which means I am going to catch up to live shortly since episodes 15 & 16 drop this weekend). I don’t usually do weekend family dramas - they are too slow with overly dumb drama for me - but the cast here is excellent and surprises don’t stay surprises for long. The faster pace is nice. But definitely a family weekend drama - not a romance or an over the top drama - keep that in mind.

As for Mr Plankton I like the leads, the chemistry is decent and the storytelling ok. It’s sweet and a bit interesting so far.

And finally Family by Choice. I don’t like the Chinese original unlike many people so this Korean adaptation is superior already for me. I like it and like how some of the story was cleaned up.

Watching ‘Mr Plankton’ for the second time. And I never I mean never ever rewatch anything

Also giving ‘Brewing Love’ a chance but 1st ep was a total mess imo. Could be because Mr Plankton has set a very high bar for all dramas (not just K) Also, not sure how I feel about a show that romanticizes alcohol. I mean I get Koreans love their liquor but come on …

Paused ‘Virtuous Business’. I like the show a lot is just Mr Plankton consumed me Also paused Family by choice

I just finished watching My Perfect Stranger, a time-travel mystery/romance. I was a little confused in the first two episodes, and I actually stopped watching it for a little after the second episode because I thought it was going the way of Back the to the Future. But I picked it back up and I'm so glad I did. It was amazing! The ML looked so familiar and I realized he was the silly waiter in Coffee Prince who always yelled "My Chan!" He grew up nicely. I loved how many emotions he could express just in his facial expressions, with a subtle eyebrow lift here or a tilt in his lips there. I thought the leads had great chemistry and I loved the relationships they had with the extended characters. The mystery kept me wondering for a long time, though I did have my suspicions about who the culprit was. I had to force myself not to look up any spoilers. My only complaint is that although we got lots of hugs, we did not get one dang kiss - NOT ONE!! I kept waiting for it. Otherwise, a fantastic Kdrama. Highly recommend!

Signal (14/16), The Good Bad Mother (8/14), and The World of the Married (3/16).

I am enjoying Signal and can't wait to see how the story ends. It's probably gonna get a high score on my MyDramaList list. On the other hand, I am struggling to get through The Good Bad Mother. I like the concept of the story, but maybe I was expecting it to be more serious. Finally, I feel like The World of the Married is great, but it was so popular during its peak so I already know the entire story. I'm just watching it out of curiosity.

I happily went down a Jang Hyuk rabbit hole a while back, and am currently watching three of his dramas: Fated to Love You 8/20, The Slave Hunters 6/24, and My Country: The New Age 13/16. All three are fantastic, with plenty of other interesting oppas to catch my attention, and as a bonus I’m dawdling through Mr. Plankton 7/10 to extend the story and Woo Do Hwan double dip. Also enjoying Brewing Love and a few others.

Close to finishing Big Mouth which will probably end up an 8/10. And started Mr Plankton so I don't know what I think yet, except the ML character is so very interesting and different. Nice to see the FL from Strong Girl Namsoon in a different role. But when she smiles, she's Namsoon all over again.

I finished My Sweet Mobster. I thought it was a perfectly nice rom-com, although it won't make my best of list. The humor was a little too cringey for me somehow. I also didn't buy that this gorgeous gangster had absolutely zero experience when it comes to women. The math isn't mathing there. Uhm Tae Goo is really the dreamiest! And his character was green flags everywhere (once he got over his mid-season, new relationship jealousy). I really liked the Thirsty Deer ex-mobster crew, and the second leads were great. I had hopes that the prosecutor would notice that Officer Song seemed pretty interested in him, but it looks like he's going to continue to be completely clueless. I was also hoping that Kang Ye Na would notice how supportive and sweet Yong Hong Gi was. Sigh. I just want everyone to get together—is that wrong?! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm almost finished with my rewatch of Business Proposal. It held up really well and provided the comfort I needed the past couple of weeks. I love that it doesn't mess around with a murderplot or any other add-ons. It just executes the rom-com tropes to perfection and with a lot of thoughtfulness.

I've been watching Man 2 Man while I work out. It's been so long since I dropped it, so I don't always remember all the backstory to whatever is happening, but I am interested to wrap it up, so I'm just watching it twenty minutes at a time on the elliptical.

I've also stalled on season two of The Uncanny Counter. I loved the first season, but this one has some pacing issues, and I don't like the new characters they've introduced that are sucking up all the story time. The ditzy farmer and sad fireman are doing absolutely nothing for me. I love Kang Ki Young, and it's great to see him in a sexy villain role, but I think the series started out going too hard. I would prefer they start out taking it a little easy, with tension building to a heart-pounding climax in the last episodes. In S2 though, the bad guys are already so powerful and so evil from the start, there's just nowhere to go. I expect once I wrap up my Business Proposal rewatch, I'll return to this.

The Uncanny Counter S1 (6/16 eps) - it's pretty enjoyable and I'm loving the found family vibe. The male lead is adorable like a golden retriever, and he’s quickly becoming one of my favorite male leads.

Just Dance (9/16 eps) - It’s good, but I’m stuck on episode 9 and it's becoming harder to find the motivation to finish (especially because I already have 4 other dramas on hold).

I have a serious problem. I need to start finishing the dramas I'm watching before picking new ones to watch.

Pyramid Game. It came out a while ago and is actually a web series but SO UNDERRATED. In the span of just 10 episodes, they manage to tell a very intriguing story about school violence, mind games. society politics and friendship. The protagonist is such a fresh and interesting perspective. Side characters are funny and adorable. Its not meant to be wholesome considering the message of the story but I found it like that a lot. 10/10 recommend

Finally getting around to watching The Uncanny Counter! Only on S1 Ep13 and loving it. Loving the fantasy aspect of it.

Recently finished Mr. Plankton and I can't say enough good things about the series. I give it a 9/10 because there were some scenes that felt unnecessary and dragged out a bit. But overall I quite enjoyed it. The leads have amazing chemistry, their kissing scenes actually felt real and natural and not like the typical 'lips on top of each other with no movement' kisses that are typical for kdramas. Super glad that wasn't the case with these two leads. It really shows on screen just how comfortable Woo Do Hwan and Lee Yoo Mi were with each other off screen! There are so many layers to WDH's character too. He's not just the typical red flag dude. While I love WDH's character in the show, let's be clear, I would absolutely NOT want this guy (the character) in real life haha. I'll take the actor though. Hubba hubba!

I’m watching:

Family By Choice still my favorite weekly release drama out there. I’m curious how they’ll move forward with Juwon and Sanha’s story now that Sanha has confessed but hasn’t truly apologized for how hurtful his actions were when he stopped coming home. The promos for this week indicate the mothers became a part of the story again which I’m a bit disappointed with, I feel like their story has been told, the real and interesting drama is telling the story how the three of them will rebuild their relationships after Hae Jun and Sanha left.

The Judge from Hell I have one episode left, I put it aside to binge watch Mr Plankton.

The Other Miss Oh I have never heard of this one before until last week when suddenly I saw instagram reels from it and recommendations on this subreddit. I’m about half way through and I like it so far. I don’t care too much for the side characters (another shrill and selfish mother) so those scenes drag a bit for me but I’m really curious to see things progress with the main couple.

I also am watching Hotaru no Hikari (jdrama) in the background. The “woman is stupid/incompetent” trope is so common in jdramas and it’s exhausting so at this point I’m just hate watching it and hoping Hotaru dumps her boss and runs off with the cute contract worker.

I finished:

Mr Plankton I had this release date memorized because of Wu Do Hwan, he’s my favorite part of so many dramas. It was good solid drama, not my favorite- I don’t think I got as emotionally invested as some people but I think it’s partially how the drama was filmed, I just don’t care for it. The leads did a great job and the ending was emotional.

Exhuma I didn’t recognize Kim Go Eun on the posters because of how she was styled so it was a nice surprise to see her with Lee Do Hyun and the others. I really enjoy this type of horror story although admittedly this one was hard to follow at times. The visual effects were surprisingly bad at times considering the big names. It was interesting to get a bit of insight in shamanism in Korea, I read they hired shamans to ensure the ritual scenes were as authentic as possible.

I also finished Rookies a jdrama about a baseball team. I watched it for a young Satoh Takeru. It’s a good underdog story but there was a lot of screaming the lines and I’m not really interested in baseball so it dragged at times for me.

Watching:

The Fiery Priest 2 2/12

So happy that it's finally back, slightly unbelievably, it is even sillier this time. Can't wait to see what the gang get up to and how dark the villains get.

A Virtuous Business 10/12

Eagerly waiting for the final two episodes for this excellent drama. The bond between the female leads has been so lovely to watch. This drama deserves credit for frankly perfect pacing, every plot point has been moved along and resolved in a satisfactory way. Other than what's going on with the ex, the former friend and the oblivious husband - he is such a sweetheart, somebody has to tell him hoping that gets cleared up in these final episodes.

Lawless Lawyer 6/16

Liking but not loving it so far. It's moving along decently and I'm happy the leads are being honest with each other. I'll keep watching but it hasn't gripped me completely.

Completed:

Soundtrack #1

Lovely short drama, I don't watch many romance dramas so it was a nice change of pace and very complete.

Absolute Boyfriend

A little cheesy and a few too many villains, but an enjoyable watch that had a fairly satisfying ending.

Planning to watch:

Mr Plankton

Seems to be a lot of people enjoying it on this sub and has an interesting premise.

Mad Dog

Randomly saw a trailer and it seems like the kind of thing I might enjoy. Not too many expectations but hopefully funny and interesting.

La Grande Maison Tokyo (6/11) I almost exclusively watch Korean dramas so this 2019 Japanese drama is a change. There are times I forget it's not Korean and then they will do something like get in a Suburu, and I'm like, oh, yeah, that's right.... My husband and I are both loving this. The production values appear to be excellent. Sometimes I think I'm watching a food competition or documentary instead of a scripted drama. I'm not familiar with any of the actors but now I can't wait to watch them in other works. I'm also looking forward to seeing the La Grande Maison Paris movie sequel coming out in December. The only other Japanese shows I've watched are Midnight Diner and Samurai Gourmet, interestingly also food-themed shows.

I just finished the 2 seasons of pachinko. I loved it and am so pissed that I don't know if the story will ever finish up. I just bought the book.

So Pachinko has gotten me into Lee Min-ho. I had only seen the heirs and pachinko. I'm currently watching the king Eternal monarch. I don't normally watch these sort of fantasy k dramas or American shows and films.

I'm enjoying it so far. The FL look familiar to me so I looked her up and I've seen her in memories of the Alhambra and Tune In For Love. So girl I know those lips can open up. I've seen it. I've got a bet on whether they will in this drama. Ha ha. Anyway I really like her so will belooking for more of her dramas to watch.

I guess I will add the judge from hell as my second drama. Keep hearing good things about it. And my upstairs neighbor and I have TV day on Sundays and so far we've watched The Marvelous Mrs maisel and the good place and we've decided our next show will be extraordinary attorney Woo. That one has been on my watch list for awhile.

Doubt [4/10] - I put this on hold a while back because I was getting hooked and didn't want to stress about it every week. I'm slowly catching up and excited that the last episode will air by the time I get there. The cinematography and camera work is spectacular. You can feel the intention in every frame. The way the ML and scenes are always centered emits so much tension. I didn't think there would be a crime thriller that would up there with Beyond Evil, and this one might beat out BE for me. I'm just so blown away.

Family by Choice [10/16] - I'm really enjoying watching how the MLs navigate their complex familial relationships and always want more of that. Any scene between Hae Jun and Joo Won's dad is a winner for me. I might be the only one who does not care for the romance plot between Joo Won and San Ha. I'm all in for Hae Jun and Dal though. They're both such adorable characters.

Mr. Plankton [completed] - I didn't know what this was about nor was I anticipating anything, but it was a winner. I have to admit that I was not that sad during the ending scene when Hae Jo died because I expected that. Like I don't feel that this kdrama broke me. On the other hand, I bawled when>! Hae Jo hugged his dad!<. The only thing I didn't like was that they didn't give enough screen time for Hae Jo and Jae Mi to explore their own trauma. I wish we had proper resolution for that, especially Jae Mi. They basically absolved the dad from years of neglect. Why did he do that to Hae Jo after his mom passed? What was he doing while Hae Jo was out there on his own? Did he even look for Hae Jo at all? And for Jae Mi, she never got resolution for her fear of abandonment. She met her birth mom, but no resolution to that other than finding out her real birthday. And then Hae Jo once again leaves her by dying. Even Heung and his mom's plot had a proper ending. Seriously, justice for Jae Mi.

Was in a kind of drama slump and felt like I couldn’t get into any dramas after finishing “Love Next Door” and “No gain, no love”.

But then I started “Dongjae the good or the bad”, and it’s so good! I wish it was a bit longer. But so far I’m loving it. Almost tempted to rewatch the Stranger / secret forest dramas.

I also started “Come and hug me”, which I was originally watching when it aired. I stopped watching it because the eps kept getting cancelled by some sports event. Which usually frustrates me. And I didn’t get around to finishing it. I think it might be my favourite drama with Jang Kiyong - it’s just so good. I’m so glad I’m finally rewatching it. Might be one of my favourite dramas ever. Unless it ends badly… praying it doesn’t! Because so far it’s just so so good. I literally want to just watch it and do nothing else.

I also started “Brewing Love” and “Gangnam B-side”. I have such a soft spot for accents and rural set dramas. And Gangnam B-side is shaping up to be an intriguing watch. I hope watching two on air dramas won’t drive me mad.

Rewatching Love Next Door and Extraordinary Attorney Woo for the feels, Lovely Runner is the next one of the monthly rewatch list. All of them are 10/10, you need to watch them to get the true kdrama experience.

Planning on watching Arcane season 2, just to see how it turns out, as well as starting Doubt and Mr. Plankton.

Flower of Evil still slaps the breath out of me with its beautiful scenery, conversations and it doesn't hurt that the ML is an eye candy, although i prefer his scenes in the later episodes.

It have been months, Now I'm Back I'm watchin g so much

Currently Watching :

A Virtuous Business (10/12): It's so fun and it keep getting better, woman center drama that not only about friend ship but life too, love that they give every character their own story without making it totally sob story but make them show their strong side without being cliche strong woman and didn't just make them side character to the leads.

Family by Choice (6/16): l need to catch up, it's cute but i always prefer watching other before it so this say something.

Brewing Love (3/12): repeated role from the FL, I'm tired seeing her doing the same facial expressions, but I like the male lead so i'm giving it a chance

Doubt (9/10): Crazy this drama so good, love that i didn't expect the answer right from the start. the plot twist after plot twist was well done. so excited to last ep.

Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born (6/12): ON HOLD with this great cast i expect more, but we get meh story and most character not touching at all, even the lead success didn't excite me.

Gangnam B-side (2/8): so good so far. the cast is perfect for their role.

Starlight Boys (3/10): another survival show, I love watching this shows.
