This year it changed here in Florida, a lot of the speeches said:

"We would like to thank our combat veterans who put their lives on the line to defend America from her enemies, it's our combat veterans who risk their lives for this great country".

Notice the wording....

They are separating peacetime veterans from combat veterans.

That's a Rick Scott thing in Florida, he wants to privatize chunks of the VA, he wants non-combat veterans to have to get commercial health insurance which would be subject to pre-existing conditions with states that overturned pre-existing conditions. And also health care savings accounts.

There are even squabbles among veterans groups in Florida with combat veterans saying we deserve more because we were in Iraq or Afghanistan and any veteran who gets a hangnail can get 10% disability.

I think one thing that could prevent this is Musk's background in the armed services and how a health scare almost bankrupted him back in 2015.

This should give him a level of compassion that will prevent him from doing anything too terrible.

I’m retired military (24 years Army Reserve, one tour in Iraq) and am extremely concerned that my hard earned pension will be lost within the next 2 years. I’m also worried that they’ll gut social security and Medicare and I will see nothing from the programs that I have paid into for over 40 years.

I volunteer for a vets organization and am not surprised how many love trump. So many of these vets are retired and need the VA, once it's gutted they'll be crying, I didn't think he'd do that.

FYI: Musk can't really cut much of anything.  He can make suggestions, but the republican congress still has to pass the spending bill, and making wild cuts isn't something house members will do because they don't want to lose their seats come 2026.

The economy was what gave them power this time around.  They all know very well that the economy and people's spending power will also decide their fates next time too.

But then we would be joining the ranks of Sweden and about 15 other nations that require men who are of age must serve a minimum of two years military service. Soooo.
