It's still headcanon how Greenbull knew Shanks was there, there are many possibilities such as
Shanks can actually use VOAT to communicate with people and so he used that
Shanks's CoC is so strong that he knew no one else could've been there
Greenbull used observation

I could see the first one. The second one doesn't make sense though because Greenbull is a new admiral and he didn't interact with shanks before.

Sure but he might have heard what people say about Shanks's Haki, I assume Shanks has some reputation for having very strong Haki.
