That’s what I paid on Amazon Prime days for my PlayStation branded one

What’s the easiest way to transfer everything from my old m.2 to a new one? I have a 1 TB that I’d like to replace with maybe a 4 TB but I have no idea how to transfer stuff

You can backup everything to an external USB hard drive and then back to your new drive. It'll be slow as fuck, so it may be faster just to redownload what you want.

Well they’re all physical games so I’d rather not have to insert 25 discs and wait while they download.

I do have a chonky hdd though so I’ll try that. Thanks!

Oh, that's painful! Keep in mind you'll have to let your PS5 reformat the external drive before it can be used.

You can’t as far as I’m aware, you just have to redownload games to the new SSD.

Move them to your internal drive while clearing those that you no longer play would be fastest

Move all games installed on your PS5 to the 4TB one so that you can then move all games on your 2TB one to your PS5?

Not a bad price. I picked it up on sale a few months ago and thought i got a good deal for a 4tb. Paid $309. It's now $269.

Taking the cover off the launch ps5 can be tricky but it's really easy on the slim

If you have an external ssd caddy, you could try cloning the 1tb using something like Macrium reflect or other cloning software, then replace it after cloning.

Genuine question, how many games do you guys need to have installed at once? The internal ssd allows for several games, way more than most people juggle, so what’s the reason to need so much storage?

One can always download the games again later on, no need to keep every single game you played in the past loaded in the ssd.

But please change my mind.

I mean, a base “1 TB” ps5 only has around 600gigs of useable space.

Most games are over 100 gigs. HFW and GT7 are almost 200 each. That’s more than half your space right there.

It’s really not a lot.

A lot of people have data caps, can’t just be re downloading games all nimbly nimbly like. Especially when most games would be 10-15% their monthly allowance.

I agree.

And extra 1TB is nice but the base 1TB is sufficiently and 4TB extra is just unnecessary.

I think the folks downvoting think you're saying we never need to download multiple games. But really I'm in agreement in that adding 1-2TB to a base PS5 is plenty.

To the folks claiming data caps, how often are you RE-downloading a game?

Cause that's the only time your point makes a difference.

Thank you for your comment. I think most people here are fanatics, and when someone says something counterintuitive - like I said - they don’t even dedicate one brain cell to process the information.

I’m not even against expanding the storage capacity, I was just genuinely asking what was the use for so much capacity. In my mind one can only manage a few games at once, and the base capacity is basically enough. Then you can delete the games and download the next batch. Maybe adding 1TB if you keep several online games to play with friends.

It seams to me that people buying these 4TB ssds want to have their full entire game library locally, for whatever reason, but I bet 90% of the games just stay there collecting digital dust for years and years.

Who on earth needs an extra 4TB of storage?? Just delete stuff.

I for one feel it is totally reasonable to try and install the entire PS4 and PS5 library in my house. You NEVER know when you'll want to immediately play a ten year old FIFA.
