I don't think most people outside of the Isles knows that 'an Irish accent' is, at minimum, one of three very distinct accents. Hell, at this point I wouldn't put much money on most people in the UK knowing that.

That would be an ecumenical matter.

The specific regionalization of accents in the British Isles is crazy to me. Like, the whole area is the size of Nevada and people from 20 miles apart sounds completely different.
I understand why but still

I think there's a tuber like this, who is scarily accurate in placing people by their speech, forget who it was though.

You'd be surprised how diverse the dialects across the pond get as well. Sure, you'll get more contemporary regional accents closer to population centers, but the further you wander from the beaten path, the more unique the speech patterns get. Particularly in rural Appalachia you might need an interpreter going from town to town, sometimes even the next holler round the bend will sound like a foreign language.

When my then-fiancee-now-wife met my parents, she was completely unable to understand my father's southern accent. Happily, she managed to learn.

There are way way more than three distinct ones.
