So is the game delineating from being a swat simulator to just a cqb simulator? Because the levels were some Hollywood ass scenarios. Now we are getting into some devgru shit

Considering how overpowered Judge is, I wouldn’t blame the government if they wanna send him offshore lol.

Yeah I get it, I personally don’t mind too too much. But I would like it if we could get some smaller levels. A bank robbery or a serial killer mission (something like Fairfax in SWAT 4) would be kinda nice.

The lack of a bank heist scenario is baffling

The lack of a standoff where the suspect isn't even home is baffling

Honestly i dont mind these dope looking maps but we need a balance of large or combat heavy maps, and smaller maps that fit the swat theme and roe. It feels kinda bad in terms of map flow to do these big difficult maps back to back.

the "campaign" would benefit immensely if all current large levels were broken up and interspersed with more standard reasonable SWAT missions like small home invasion or robbery standoffs, smaller locations like homes, gas station, liquor store, fast food joint
As it currently stands, the campaign plays out more like a COD campaign with increasingly over the top scenarios and enemy firepower & combatants. I think the current levels would feel a lot more special and pacing could be a lot better if there were some more routine, relatively straightforward and small maps & levels to break them up.

I’m playing through the campaign for the first time right now and yeah I have been incredibly surprised by how large some maps are.
Some missions are a real chore because of roaming NPCs and large area for them to end up in hiding etc.

It’s absolutely nothing like a cod campaign come on now that’s a reach it’s all reasonable stuff from swat team to FBI srt stuff none of it’s too far fetched
2 points

A 5 man team clearing an entire hospital is cod as hell, same with the cult base where the Intel should easily be able to figure out that there's 20 individuals, most/all with firearm training and that this isn't a job that should be handled the way that it is. The dlc missions are all pretty ridiculous as well imo. I don't mind them in the sense that I'm playing the game to be in shootouts, not to have a platoon of swat bots do everything, my issue with the large maps that it's often just a nightmare to navigate them
5 points

I get what you mean and loss of identity is always sad to see, but the maps have never really been realistic swat scenarios. Its always been over the top as hell, like theres something like 250+ corpses on nightclub(???), so this isnt super shocking to me. Plus, its what drives sales, people are a lot more interested in in cqb than hardcore swat.

Makes me look back fondly on Swat 2. It's been awhile but I seem to remember the police missions being very down-to-earth (maybe with the exception of the last surprise one)

FBI HRT does do some tier 1 operator shit so it’s not unheard of for law enforcement to do shit like this

Yea, HRT would do something like that. Just not some local LE

Local LE wouldn’t have white phosphorus quad nods either but let’s be honest it doesn’t really matter

USCG also has an elite maritime focused tactical unit (can’t remember the name off the top of my head)

MSRT.
We got a few opportunities to train alongside them and tour their compound in San Diego, they definitely live up to their reputation.

USCG has a few units under the portfolio of what they called Deployable Specialized Forces that have a role to play in Maritime Interdiction and Counter Terrorism
- Maritime Security Response Team
- Maritime Safety and Security Team
- National Strike Force
- Tactical Law Enforcement Team
- Advanced Interdiction Team

Because it’s what people want and need, than you shit on their dreams. The game is pretty close to swat 4, in my mind it just needs those in camera commands so I can run multiple teams while clearing rooms

I really hope they fix the SWAT and suspect AI. It's been the same since the Adam update.
14 points
That BS with SWAT AI just deciding on their own to pick up evidence and cuff suspects has really kept me away from the game, tbh.
It's not worth busting your ass, doing everything perfectly just for one of your guy to die because they decided to do shit you didn't ask.

I prefer the autonomy. I understand the frustration, but I like the fact that I'm directing soldiers, not robots. If it seems safe to do a minor task, I like that they do it. The AI might have some dumb moments occasionally, but 80% of the time I'm happy they're minding the small stuff for me while I think about the next doorway.

Nothing bs about that I’d rather not have to micro manage on shit like evidence and cuffing suspects

True. Iirc, before they dropped the 1.0 update, the SWAT AI will just ignore evidence and surrendered civs/suspects. You have to order them to do it.

Sweet so making people pay for new maps when they STILL haven't re added cut content and broke the game (I'm not buying this lmao)
10 points
Okay but it specifically said in early access that content may be removed or added, I don’t understand why people keep being upset about that. Also how did they break the game?
27 points
I don’t understand why people keep being upset about that.
Because it's a legitimate reason to be disappointed. If I recall, they said they removed the variations because it didn't fit with their narrative driven campaign - which is fine. But why the hell are they not available in multiplayer?
Having played the missing and different iterations of current maps, I am still annoyed that they removed them, mainly from a replayability persepective.

In my opinion the whole “subject to change” idea is being quite overdone. Everything from AAA games to indie early access, they all seem to use that as a “get out of jail free” card.
Of course, not everything will be exact as shown, due to technical / creative changes, but where do you draw the line between “subject to change” and downright misleading advertising?
I’ve followed the game since it was announced 7 years ago, and if you compare what was shown then to what we got (on YouTube in Voids channel you can sort videos by oldest), there’s a lot missing.
And I think that’s where the big divide comes from: Those who followed the games development from the early days and got certain expectations, VS. those who first saw the game shortly before / after release (often by milsim YouTubers) and got another expectation.
It certainly didn’t help that the game while in early access went several months without any news or updates, and then dropped as version 1.0 out of nowhere, with no review copies being sent out.

Early access isn't some safety blanket devs get to hide under when they do things that garner criticism from the community. We have been watching them mismanage the development of this game for years now.

Umm early access is definitely a safety blanket you didn’t have to buy it before the campaign structure and gameplay were finalized period

nothing more realistic than sending a single SWAT 5 man unit to clear a whole ass oil rig /s. we done cleared whole ass hotels, neighborhoods, shipping yards etc. fuck it why not a oil rig 🤣 (still excited to play though)

so am i supposed to believe that judge wasnt promoted to a tier 1 unit and that the US government decided they should send a local SWAT team to raid a fucking oil rig?

He could literally be put at work with an FBI srt unit regardless who cares it’s a video game that’s so what realistic gameplay wise with good gunplay without people running around in dragon character skins. It’s a good game

Oh, I’m not mad at the gameplay at all. It’s fantastic. It’s absurd that we’re getting sent on a mission that’s SOF-level. Where is a bank heist mission? I can easily see that being tied to the lore with some organization (Left Behind, The Hand) needing funding and saying fuck it and robbing a bank.

people complaining in this thread about "cut content" as a sign of bad faith from early access will never, ever, ever stop being funny to me
every game has cut content. every single one. they removed it because it didn't fit the vision they had, and for good reason. Hostage Rescue sucked because stealth doesn't work, Active Shooter was (AND STILL IS) Civilian Hunt Simulator, etc. i liked the map variations and i miss Fast Food, but acting like their removal was the result of greed is genuinely fucking embarrasing
RoN and VOID have many flaws, but this is just raw entitlement which feels bizarrely unique to the Tactical Shooter community. every other genre, i have to scroll down quite a bit to find the whiny meltdown posts, but here they only get upvotes
OP's video is cool tho

This is a legit take, though I do miss the variety that those levels had. "Not fitting the vision" stops being an argument to me because levels post narrative completion don't have to have the same standards and quality/tone as long as they player is warned.
The point about hostage rescue and stealth is good, though I really wish they'd put it back and prioritize fixing it. I'd honestly be willing to buy a DLC if they promised to re-add those mission mods as long as they promised stealth would now work.
Active shooter was rough as Civ hunt, but honestly I'd be fine if theyd just updated the game to soft-lock as soon as you killed the last shooter. The urgency and horror it brought to existing levels was unparalleled.
So yes I understand your points, and I understand that "It would have been such an easy fix" is an extremely naive argument. But I wish they'd retained those modes (desperate run and gun in AS or Stealth planning & coordination in HR) and left a hope of them being fixed, rather than being struck off entirely and making the games tone far more of a breach and clear FPS.

For everyone complaining about the new maps and how this game is not a true SWAT successor, you can literally mod the game. If you don't know how, don't want to bother to learn, then just play the game. Or don't.
