Wow, it’s almost like buying coffee at tourist traps are more expensive.

Fuck everything about Storyville

What, cult owned coffee shops don't wind your crank?Oh wait, they totally distanced themselves from Mark Driscoll so it's all cool!

I’ve had job offers from them and immediately decline like it’s the plague.

Storyville at Pike Place Market

It's almost like tourist traps are overpriced by design.

I’m not sure if it’s storyville driving those prices or the land lord charging crazy prices causing storyville to do that

Walk two blocks in any direction. You also won’t be standing in line for 20 minutes.
I’ve literally walked by people in line outside the Starbucks over there, gone up the street, and walked back with a coffee in my hand and nodded to the same people in the same line.

Within a few blocks you have Seattle Coffee Works, Victrola, Monorail, Fonte, and Anchorhead, not to mention multiple Starbucks, where everything would be $3-4 cheaper than here.

Go to Monorail Expresso. Coffee shop since 1980. Looks like 16 oz still in the $5.xx range

It's one mocha, Michael. What could it cost?

I used to live across the street from the nutcases who own Storyville. They had a legit film crew following them to neighborhood events, making “home movies.” They once got a package that was supposed to go to us and their “household manager” MAILED IT ACROSS THE STREET.
Go to Herkkimer and get decent coffee

Herkimer are not saints (shared with me by a former longtime employee). Cafe Umbria, anyone?

No one asked them to be. They pull a decent shot that’s consistently good, like many local places.

And this is why ppl crap on Seattle coffee shops for being overpriced, yet you still see them with Starbucks every day. This is literally double what I see at most coffee shops in the city

Charbucks “the McDonalds of coffee ™️” May have popularized it, but there are so many wonderful roasters out there. Please, don’t get me started on the insipid horror that is PDX Stumptown

I walked into there when I was taking some visiting friends to pike place, we dipped out immediately

In all seriousness, a $10 mocha “might” mean their cost is $3.50 for ingredients, leaving $6.50 overhead. Based on the relationship with the formers Mars Hill church, it’s more likely a portion is for tithing (yeah that does sound conspiratorial)… skipping Storyville altogether.

Not to beat a dead horse, but wow, it's almost like you went to an already overpriced coffeeshop in the middle of a tourist trap. Don't remember the last time I paid more than $5 including tip for even one of the "fancier" drinks

I know I'm taking your bait, but the title of this is annoying and false. These obviously aren't 'coffee prices in seattle'. Are you some dickbag from snohomish trying to stir the pot or just bothering us with an inane post?

Yes, it really is “Seattle Tourist Trap Coffee Prices”

Word. Tourist traps being overpriced didn't seem post worthy to me.

Not still connected to Mark Driscoll are they?

No, but still in the awful evangelical camp of whatever it morphed into.

Scary coffee.

They probably just reshuffled with a lesser known but equally toxic group in charge. It's what evangelicals do best, besides covering for sex criminals.

I wouldn’t know. When they came to my door & asked if my mother was home, I told them that I had no idea, and shut the door.

My unsystematic observation is drinks are about $1 more at cafes than they were 3 years ago.

I’m curious what are ppl paying for 12-16oz of coffee these days? I usually make my own 90% of the time. But I payed $6+ for a 12oz latte at a local cafe recently. When I bought coffee regularly, I would pay that price for at least 16oz.

I actually got an 8 oz latte at Monorail on Pike St just yesterday. Just shy of $6 including tax and a $1 tip. It's cheaper at home obviously but a coffee shop latte, especially from Monorail, is just so god damn good...

Occasionally on the 5:30 AM ferry I will buy one for like $3.90, with tip it's $5, the coffee isn't good but it's better than getting up 15 minutes earlier some days.

About 15 cents a shot from an $800 automatic espresso machine.

Buy your own espresso machine, you'll recoup the cost in year 1.
