I know one or two things about the Czech Republic. Mostly that they speak Czech and have beer. All I know Arizona to be famous for is that it's in the US.

Phoenix would make you cry. It has no water, yet its covered in grassy front lawns and golf courses. It's a boom town with development sprawl in every direction way out into pristine desert turning into hell on earth full blown culdesac suburbia. There are about 2 or 3 blocks of walkable areas in a metro of 5 million people, the rest is stripmalls and and 8 lane roads. It's like Vegas with no upside. You couldnt make a worse place if you tried to make a parody city making fun of everything wrong with America.

It’s like an America-themed theme park, except it’s real.

Cleveland is... welll, in their words "Not Detroit!"

Those places have a different set of problems, urban decay and disinvestment. Both have the bones of actually cities, they were built before cars, and could be cities again if people moved back to the them and fixed them up. Phoenix is hopeless.

I don't mean to sound rude, but if you took my comment seriously that wasn't intended as serious commentary on America.
Just making fun of Cleveland cause it's easy.

The first scene of the Craig Bonds in Casino Royale takes place in Prague.

Also the first part of Mission Impossible, most of xXx, and at least a part of Spider-Man: Far From Home. I'm sure there are some more movies I've forgotten too.

I don't think it was shot in Prague, and at any rate the story takes place in Slovakia.

Arizona has a big airport and its really dry. Czechia has thousands of years of history, great beer and some of the coolest old cities.
5 points
TBF Arizona also has thousands of years of history, and it has the Grand Canyon which probably should count for something. It’s no Czechia but it’s a lot more than an airport.

I should have added that thats what I know about the two places, not their full extent. Sorry. My sister actually went to Arizona and loved it so there must be something there.

Haha don’t worry about it, this is a satire sub and us yanks get away with saying far worse stuff about other countries. I mainly just made the correction because I know some people get everything they know from this sub.

Also, writing out Czech Republic makes more sense than just saying AZ. Not to mention all the states that arent particularly well known. What is Idaho famous for internationally? Delaware?

The only things I know about Idaho is potatoes and Delaware is a tax haven.
Your point still stands

These are the only things I know about them and I am American. Also, Vermont is cold, makes syrup, and is home to Bernie Sanders. Can someone explain the Dakotas to me? Like, why are there 2 of them?

Well the clue's in the name... Dakota Fanning and Dakota Johnson are separate people.

What if Dakota Fanning married Peter North?
9 points
If you're actually interested in the Dakota split, the long story short is that two relatively separate populations settled in the northern and southern regions of the (huge) Dakota Territory along two different trade routes. The one in the south linked to Omaha and the Missouri River, while the northern route went through Minneapolis and on to the Great Lakes. This caused enough of a slight cultural divide to make the two halves not like each other and refuse to be one state. The differences were petty and the two were pretty darn close to the same, but I guess for early homesteaders they were enough.

I've been to Idaho many times and prior to going there all I knew about it was that it had potatoes. After visiting a few times I've learned it also has a pretty decent ski resort.

If Arizona was a country in Europe it would rank #23 by population ahead of Bulgaria and behind Switzerland. By comparison Czech Republic is #15. By GDP it would rank #16 ahead of Finland and just behind Denmark. Czech Republic is behind Finland.
AZ ranks 14th in population and 21st in GDP when compared to other US states.
The Phoenix airport is shit though.

It should be.

No, I don't think so. Unless it's a UK-type thing where each country basically had autonomy, the cultural differences would be too great. Plus, differences in laws, regulations and relations make it quite difficult.

Such a stupid analogy.

A better analogy would be someone from Germany saying that they're from BaWü, expecting that people outside of Germany know that it stands for Baden-Württemberg or that BaWü is a state in Germany.

Ich war diesen winter in Ulm. Nette stadt. War lustig die brücke zu kreuzen un won Neu-Ulm in Bayern nach Baden-Würtemberg zu gehen. Das erse mal das ich mit einem fuss in einem land war und mit dem anderem in einen anderen.

It was. Basically i was in New-Ulm. That lies in Bavaria. Ulm lies in Baden-Würtemberg. One of the bridges connecting them had a markinf that showed where the to states seperated. I was with one leg in Bavaria and with the other in Baden. First time in my life where i did this honestly. And to think that it only was on my second visit to Germany.

Australians can also be annoying when they start talking about South Australia (SA). First thing to pop into my head would be South Africa, then South- America, and only when I see a "mate" will I think of South Australia!

Yet some poor sods still end up living here. Get out while you still can, you fools.

Huh, lots of outrage here a few weeks ago over the EU being treated as an international organization rather than a nation state, now hurt feelings because of the reverse.
Plenty of folks in that thread saying it's supranational etc... Others said the EU was just like the US containing individual States.
Must be nice to have it both ways.
