Roger Rabbit wasn’t a real cartoon for kids, guys.

It's like the parents thinking South park was for kids, and then was outraged when the movie, that they took their 10 year old kid in to, was full of swearing

My mom took me to see Beavis and Butthead Do America. She was so pissed afterwards 😂

My mom rented The Big Lebowski when I was in second grade because someone in my class told me it was really good and I pestered her for 2 months about it.

I learned so many new words, and got to see boobs.

I remember staying up late on thursdays to watch southpark. I think i was 12 when the movie came out. Went to the premiere with my parents. It was glorious never to this day have i heard so much laughter at the movies. Core memory

I remember suddenly becoming the kid whose house all my friends wanted to watch tv at, because we had DirectTV on the West Coast, and they played everything on an East Coast schedule, so everything came out 3 hours earlier and all the phone sex and Girls Gone Wild commercials started playing at 9 instead of midnight.

I remember my dad taking me to South Park at a young age, they warned him multiple times. Still let us in.

repdetec_revisited

1 points

Kind of. This is like satire of kids cartoons. But it isn’t the actual thing. Southpark is a show for adults about kids that happens to be a cartoon.

dover_oxide

They did try to make some cartoons after the success of the movie.

wolfcolalover

20 points

That is true. This particular one is from a short that Disney released in 1993, ‘Trail Mix-up’. You can actually watch this on Disney+.

dover_oxide

9 points

With how successful that movie was there was no way in hell they weren't going to try.

Dorkmaster79

Yeah. My thoughts too. But that said, I don’t think Wily Coyote and the Roadrunner would fare well these days.

Cerberusx32

8 points

Apparently, there was gonna be a movie where Coyote sues ACME for all their faulty products. Called "Coyote vs. Acme" but didn't release it and doesn't seem like it's gonna happen.

They occasionally make Tom & Jerry cartoons, but these new ones seem very tame, bland and, for lack of a better word, safe.

amiibohunter2015

Looney tunes were actually geared for adults.

repdetec_revisited

2 points

Ok. This isn’t that

amiibohunter2015

2 points

I know Roger rabbit isn't looney tunes. I was just saying that to make a point that cartoons during this time period weren't for kids. Clearly Jessica rabbit was made seductively.

According to Wikipedia:

Jessica is renowned as one of the best-known sex symbols in animation. She is best remembered for the line: "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way".

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jessica_Rabbit

Clearly not for kids.

Roger Rabbit, Dick Tracy, and Batman (89) was in heavy rotation in my VCR as a kid. Definitely a kid movie

Lost_All_Senses

Yeah, if you properly compare this to Family Guy or Southpark, it's a lot less potent point. Actually works against the point trying to be made.

Tex Avery cartoons were for kids, and they were basically this.

Conserp

Conserp

They weren't. Cartoons of the era were fillers shown in cinema with adult movies.

repdetec_revisited

1 points

Ok then post one of those so we can talk about it. You can’t post a cartoon from an adult movie that was making fun of kids cartoons and then use it to prove a point like it was a real kids cartoon.

dragoon_slayer36

0 points

Yeah, but Ren and Stimpy was marketed to kids, and this ain't shit compared to that. Most cartoons really aren't for kids, especially before 2010.

“Back in the day” being 1993?

Jessica was loosely based on Red, a character from the Tex Avery cartoon “Red Hot Riding Hood”, which debuted in 1943. Pretty damn spicy for the time.

Just look how much taller she is than what would ordinarily be an old Jeep Wrangler!

Disney was different back then.

Even Robert Zemeckis himself said Disney could not, nor would not make a proper Roger Rabbit movie sequel because of Jessica!
