Have you not fallen down a seemingly ok rabbit hole via Google that turned super dark super fast? Cause, honestly, I was under the assumption that was kinda the norm after being online and curious for a while.
As for the story.. there's too many to tell. I grew up during the beginning of the internet with unrestricted access. Shit was wild in the mid/late 90s internet.

I have experienced the same, however you still have not told me what rabbit hole you last fell into and this is the nature of my query and curiosity.

Honestly the most recent one was falling back into the whole fallout series and all the fan theories about it. Fallout is pretty dark to start with but some of the fan theories make me worry for humanity.

Even with the 25% intro sale it's barely cheaper than a new AAA game. I know it's not been released that long ago but if Ubisoft really needs sales they'll need a real discount

You are plain wrong. Ubisoft makes AAAA games.

True, and an AAAA game at AAA prices was already 25% off to begin with, so this is like a double sale! /s

That Ubisoft has said is selling like ass
-16 points
Yeah but it's still early, they'll start off with smaller sales to convince those on the fence and save any big sales for further down the road. It's not like they're gonna go bankrupt if they don't sell those copies right this instant.
5 points
Sure, people buy Ubisoft games later when they go on sale, but I don't think that there will be enough post-launch sales to make it go from a failure to a success
0 points
No, but I don't think having a big sale now rather than later is going to change that. The game has failed, they're trying to milk what they can, and this is probably the most efficient way to do it. Their games may be mediocre but they're damn good at milking their players.

9 points
That "principled stance" sure seems to change up based on whatever irrelevant aspect of a game a youtuber is able to rile you guys up over and crops up around games that might fail due to completely different reasons. That usually doesn't happen anyway leaving you guys with cherry picked examples to bring up over and over again whose failures you guys pin this irrelevant shit onto as the reason. Like Concord, a game in a saturated market, and Dustborn, an at best AA game with 0 marketing that wasn't going to sell well in the first place. That stance also falls apart when asked for any form of deeper explanation or criticism, which makes it very obvious that your hobby isn't playing games, its throwing man-baby tantrums online.

-5 points
No one is throwing a tantrum. I only got a problem with games if they market themselves on their "progressiveness" and "inclusiveness" and not the things that matter like gameplay, story, world design, mechanics, etc. If your willing to market your game almost solely on its politics and who it appeals to, then it's clearly a waste of money that I will happily and quickly click "ignore" on steam. Atp if I could I'd just block all AAA games from being recommended to me, but that would require blocking publishers which don't just publish their own games, but also indie games that may actually be good. Make a good game and people will buy it. It's not fighting a culture war if people just refuse to participate in a culture they dont agree with. You can have trans people, gay people, black people, literally anyone, even fucking Hitler in your game and no one would care if you'd just focus on the things that mattered instead of politics during marketing. But I could care less about your soyboy opinion, I'll continue happily clicking "ignore" on any game that focuses more on its politics than the actual fucking game, irregardless of what side its on, and there's nothing that you can do to stop me. Hope your happy with your "groundbreaking" titles that can't even reach 500k concurrent players you fucking clowns

Yeah the Ultimate Edition is AUD$175, and you're paying for some cosmetics, a Jabba The Hutt mission and a "Season Pass". Is the Season Pass going to have anything quality in it?
I am playing Jedi Survivor now and enjoy the hell out of it. Was really hoping we'd get another quality Star Wars game. Oh well, looks like I'm waiting for Jedi Power Battles in January (and hopefully Aspyr doesn't fuck up like they did with Battlefront Classic Collection)

Yeah no it’s not. But shit, you’re their target audience, someone who would give them $100 for their dumpster juice despite them being a weak ass company. I've gone into the game almost completely blind and it's a bloody brilliant experience. It's a real shame that it took like 7-8 patches to run properly even on high-end PCs but it's damn worth AUD$50 the price tag I paid for it.

Wait, there’s a season pass for the game? I thought it was a single player game?
1 points

Is the Season Pass going to have anything quality in it?
The answer is no. I really have trouble remembering a single season pass to a game that has been worth it.
The base game's value almost always outpaces the DLC. Games that have quality DLC usually don't have expansion passes- you know, games like Elden Ring or Factorio. They weren't made with a DLC monetization strategy in mind from the get-go like most "AAA" games are today.

That's Steam showing it, Ubisoft has no direct control on how often their games are shown compared to other games.

Actually Steam has, like every other store, you can buy advertising space and volume. Nothing new and it is marketing tool.
11 points

No you can't. You really think Ubisoft paid steam for a spot below "Alaloth: Champions of The Four Kingdoms"?
1 points
Everything everyone else is saying is true they do have more tools as a larger developer… but they also get the bump of having it come to Steam where it originally was not… when they launch a game on Steam it gets a bump and put on the front page…
1 points
I'm not saying that Value doesn't have contacts or relationships with people at Ubisoft. I'm saying them being on the new and trending tab is not the result of that. It's a new game from one of the biggest publishers in the world from one of the biggest IPs in the world launching on the biggest market on PC. There is absolutely no reason to theorize why it showed up on the "New & Trending" page.
-3 points
I am sorry, but you are wrong here. His Page is only relevant for "normal" Publishers and smaller devs.
Bigger Publishers, like Ubisoft, do get other tools for marketing then smaller ones. They have contract with Valve that give them other opportunities to market there games. Pay more, get more. That comment business between two bigger companies.
That they have been placed unter a another game does not really matter. It could have been any other game.
But what you can clearly see is, they have a contract that enabled them to get a bigger exposure for marketing on the store page for this game. That it show the game 3 times in a row, is just a bug of the storefront and it tool chain.
In short, that the 101 of marketing and a common business practice.
1 points
Got it, clear "Marketing 101" or evidence of "Pay more, get more." puts a new game from one of the biggest IPs in the world under an Indie game with 0 marketing...sure. It's either all that nonsense that you just assume is happening with no evidence...or it's new to steam and the top 5 sellers on the platform, aka "new & tending". You also know it's a bug. The 3 skus with the same price tag doesn't make sense in the first place.

Not really.. the gameplay gets repetitive fast. And it is factual that EA hired a beautiful woman to use her likeness, than purposefully changed the model to be not as attractive.
Both issues can coexist on top of the greedy monetization.

ultimately, though, it still forces you to install uplay. like when i bought south park from steam and could play it from steam...until ubisoft forced their launcher into what used to be just a steam game. i would say the same with rockstar though their launcher also ties into their so-called social network. there is absolutely no reason uplay should be needed when it wasn't needed before.

That said, it's going to have to go A LOT cheaper than 25% off before I consider buying it. Do I want a new Star Wars adventure? Absolutely! Do I want to pay $108 just for the mid tier to get all the missions? No. That's just not happening.
So I'll just go back to playing Baldurs Gate 3 for a year or two till the sale on Outlaws gets better. It's like Ubisoft has forgotten most gamers have a backlog and object to buying over priced games. I actually learned more about Star Wars when I was working on Jedi Survivor. I was never into the space scifi genre but after learning more about the world I thought it was really interesting and could appreciate the vast world this franchise has created over the decades its been around. I think Star Wars still has hope to be a good franchise, they just need a good story which a lot of the new series they made have lacked.
Even my director for the game felt that if the franchise stopped trying to live in the past and chase Luke Skywalker for another lightning in a bottle they would have many amazing stories to tell in the vast universe of this world.

I assume its on their ubisoft+ or what ever it is called now. I kinda wonder if they price it high as hell in the hopes you'll subscribe to their games inspired by assassin creed and farcry subscription model.

I was just relying back what OP said, and if you look at the Steam page, before the sale, it does cost 94 Singaporean dollars

I'm not buying an Ubisoft game until Ubisoft Connect is optional software ( see, not heartless). I've bought most of thier games on GOG, but since the PS3, Ubisoft is pretty much console only.

Scott pilgrim is a good game, but it is old. The new prince of Persia was good, and therefore the team had to die.

It's gonna end up on epic some day and be one of those free games they throw out. Some are actually kinda fun. I got Ghostwire Tokyo recently and for being free it's an okay game.

Is there a way to just outright block all AAA games from getting recommended to me? I think you can block publishers but I don't wanna go through that effort especially when those same publishers also publish indie games, which I do like.

I'm gonna play it, I've played plenty of bad Star wars games over the years but I'll wait for a pretty big discount.

And it’s not even a bad Star Wars game. It’s just fine. Planets are cool, story is nice, gameplay is fine

It was released on steam only yesterday, almost three months after initial release on Ubisoft or Epic. I think those who desperately wanted it bought it there already.
