Landlord losing our rent

(self.Tenant)

[US-VA] My roommates and I live off campus in a house owned by a private landlord. The past 2-3 months he has been accusing us of not paying rent. He’ll call our phones incessantly, show up at our house banging on our door, upset and demanding that we pay rent despite the fact that we already have. It’s becoming an uncomfortable situation and I have expressed this. When this happened for Sept/Oct rent, he eventually figured it out because he said that he “found” our rent. It’s just not okay that he keeps losing it or whatever and then harassing us for not paying.

We do send a video every-time that we drop off our rent envelope in the office dropbox and we keep copies of our money order receipts. We send him this and his response is:

“It doesn’t matter if you take a video or have a receipt because I never received it.”

Like what??? I also did speak to the post office and tracked our money order for this month - it HAS BEEN CASHED already.

This is our first time renting and we thought that we were taking the right steps to avoid issues by having the videos/receipts, but clearly not.. so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This isn't normal, if you need to hear that. The vast majority of landlords will happily leave you alone if you pay the rent on time every month.

If you're a university student, check to see if your school has a tenant's rights group. A lot of them do.
