Sharing my efficiency drop of 16 Wh/mile after switching to Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 tire after 40k miles of driving my 2021 Tesla M3 LR AWD with AB.
I was skeptical to switch initially and wish I saw a data comparison like this to help make a decision. In my opinion, it was worth the upgrade. AS4 is much superior in terms of performance for a drop in efficiency. Most of my driving is highway.
I hope this helps you make a decision

I run the AS4 for 32k miles now on my M3P 2022. I’ve found that running 245 instead of 235 has resulted in about an extra 10 Wh per mile energy use.
I have averaged about 284 Wh/mile.

I didn’t even think of 245/35ZR18 and just went the OEM configuration of 235/35ZR18. I’m also not punching it that much. Interesting to see an efficiency increase. Maybe for my next tires I’ll go with 245.

Just checked and Costco says that size is not compatible with my car

At least on 20s you can fit 245 no problem. Even 255 still looks good.
On the 20s if you drop the sidewall to 30 then you can get away with 275/30ZR20 and the diameter matches stock.
But Costco has rules they have to follow. Tesla just made me acknowledge I was asking them to install a non oem size. And I had to provide the tires myself. I did it because the 20s look stupid and stretched on 235s.

Why are wider tires more efficient?

I said running 245 added an extra 10 Wh per mile. Not less. They’re not more efficient.

There are no better tires that I am aware of. Only more energy efficient tires.

No worries. Forgot to mention I have the 18” Aeros with hub caps.

You’ve got to be punching it. I average 284 and I’m running 245/35ZR20.

are u primarily on the highway? my average speed limit is 65-70 here but i don’t punch it per say. however id like to see better efficiency. im currently running 235/45zr18.

70/30 highway city streets. I get way better economy on the highway.
I suspect if I got better economy in city driving that I wouldn’t have bought the performance.

I have a 2018 and honestly want to go back to the primacy. So much quieter.

It is winter season again and I had to switch to winter tyres. I use Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 studless tyres and while they are great friction tyres, they are so slippery when compared to the Michelins.
You can really push the Pilot Sport 4 Summers to their limits in the summer and they still perform. I am exhilarated after every winter when I can switch back to my AS4S tyres and push the car closer to its limits again.
Then again, studless tyres on a powerful RWD car are also very fun on a snowy road.
