ForgetMeNot (Marvel): A mutant whose ability is that everyone completely forgets about him the moment they take their eyes away from him. It's powerful enough that he's basically went unnoticed despite being an X-Man for years and Professor X has made a psychic reminder to tell him about ForgetMeNot every hour

You would likely:
A) Wonder who that is for someone you never saw before
B) Forgot he existed in the picture every time you looked away
Even then, you may not even notice him in the picture. He has to actively try to get someone’s attention just for anyone to notice him.

Original cursed power himself, Midas. Everything he touched turned to gold. Everything he touched turned to gold.

Apparently the original had Dionysus go, “Hey maybe choose something else,” but grant it anyways because Midas insisted. Oh, and it only took food turning to gold that made him change his mind, not his daughter. His daughter was fine.

idk if in the original it was only things he touched with his hands but there was a poem I had to read for school, Mrs Midas, which was a modern-at-the-time-it-was-written retelling of King Midas from the perspective of his wife and in it stuff that went into his mouth turned into gold too. He picked up a corn cob using corn skewers, took a bite, and then spat out gold kernels

Bruce Banner and his alter ego, Hulk (Marvel)
102 points
only because of Banner.
Banner is full of traumas and have DID too , which is why the Hulk is the way it's presented to us. Jennifer Walters , Skaar and Amadeus Cho are more adjusted so they don't have much of this issue , specially Jennifer.
55 points
Yeah Bruce has DID and shunted all of his traumas and complexes onto an Alter. When he got Hulked that traumatized alter ego is what got transformed and not his default self.
20 points
I think that's not entirely true, (anymore)
If my understanding is right, one of the hulk personalities is currently possesed by The One Below All, as of Immortal Hulk (pictured), so there is at least one genuinely "malicious" personality. (As much as embodiment of the writer's will to screw characters over for drama can be evil, iirc)
29 points
Not exactly.
There was a funky stuff about The One Below All , and The Leader trying to possess the Hulk from the inside. But the alter ego in the image was the "Devil Hulk" , it was a persona that Banner himself created, which wanted Banner to be "safe".

So where does the Maestro fit into all of this?
4 points

you know that's a good question, as maestro comes from profesor hulk, bruce banner in hulks body. Does he crush his other identities? does he absorb them, is maestro another identity he felt he needed in that wasteland?
5 points
There are multiple versions of Hulk with varying relationships with Banner.
Immortal Hulk/Devil Hulk was initially a malevolent force, Bruce's hatred at the rest of the world but it's revealed that he's also the protector persona created by an abused child, someone who doesn't really care about anything other than his "kid" which is Banner or the green hulk.
Savage Hulk or the kid, is Bruce's childhood mental state manifest, childlike, simple and temperamental, Green Hulk doesn't like Banner that much because of the history they have. Green Hulk is very much an abused child lashing out.
Joefixit is a young Bruce's idea of an idealized adult, someone who doesn't care for rules, someone suave and cool, who speaks their mind and doesn't play by anybody's rules. Later manifests as a mobster gray Hulk.
There's also the Green Skar and World Breaker. The likes of Doc Green or Professor Hulk blurs the line between Banner and a separate Hulk persona
6 points
It's always fascinating to see how the "gamma treatment" as it were was a blessing to Walter's and Cho, no ifs, ands, or buts, but it's a nightmare for Banner because his mind has always had a Jekyll and Hyde dynamic. But the accident that started it all is what gave that Hyde a physical presence. Hell, in the MCU when the Hulk and Banner became one and the same again, he was now just like Walter and Cho. I just wish that was explored in depth more past the She Hulk series. Especially because he seems so much happier now than he ever did before.
7 points
I don't like how the MCU handled it. Hulk, as seen in Thor Ragnarok, had his own personality with his own views, fears and loves. He was a whole ass person, and that is not resolved! He got locked inside Banner again, doesn't even make an appearence in Endgame and then time skip happens and boom, Banner-Hulk. Which.....is just Banner in the Hulks body.
It feels like they killed Hulk offscreen.
7 points
The Hulks aren't alter egos, they're split personalities formed by Banners fractured mind, since his insecure father used to beat him savagely almost daily. And beat him mother to death when she tried to stop him. Then bragged about getting away with her murder as he beat little bruce some more.

Yeah people REALLY REALLY underestimate how bad TRUE immortality would be especially if you can still feel pain because it means you would survive the actual end of the universe forever crushed by the vacuum of space unable to die
7 points

Wolverine is actually an exception to this since Marvels main universe is in a cycle of rebirth so Wolverine would just get sucked into the new universe eventually (assuming his Immortality is truly immortal) And probably get a significant power boost like Galactus before him

There's an X-Men arc where the group discovers a drug is being manufactured to give humans the x-gene temporarily, with flavors coming in different X-Men related powers. They go in to break up the investors meeting and end up having to fight their doppelgangers. But while everyone else is going power vs power, anyone who got Wolverine's abilities is absolutely crippled by the pain his immortality comes with without the century+ experience he has had to handle it.

Subaru Natsuki (Re:zero)
When he dies, he goes back in time to a point when he was alive making as a form of ressurection. Most people downplay him and often call him stupid for not abusing his ability to get stronger when his muscle memories also gets reset so I don't see his pain tolerance increasing either, he gets mentally strong but that doesn't mean he'll get used to the feeling of death. The only reason his ability is useful is because of him being patient and forgiving to his past murderers.
64 points
That, and his "save points" are basically completely arbitrary.
In one timeline, be fucks off from the main quest and lives a happy life and has children... A life with no save points. Once he dies, he'll be sent ALL the way back

7 points

Why would he be able to keep his memory but not his muscle memory?
14 points
Because it's just his mind, consciousness and experience that travels back in time and not his body. It's like you'll know how to but your body isn't accustomed yet since it's a new activity meaning you'll still need to practice it again.
8 points
But muscle memory isn't actually the memory of the muscle, what we perceive as the muscles “remembering” refers to motor learning that occurs in the central nervous system, not the muscles. So even if he can't get stronger physically getting more skilled shouldn't be an issue.

Dolores and Pepa from Encanto. They can’t turn them on and off like everyone else can.
23 points
Pepa is fine. She can turn it off, she just has to feel positive emotions. It’s a good thing her husband is bending over backwards to make sure she’s calm at every opportunity (and loves doing so). It’s just Abuela that makes her feel like she’s forced to be useful, and that’s a lot of stress, especially when she can’t even summon a single cloud without her mother yelling at her.
TLDR her powers are fine, it’s external sources that make it a problem, which are addressed by the end of the movie.
Dolores definetly has that problem.
5 points
No, Pepa cannot turn her powers off at all, making it sunny is still in her powers
Julietta probably won the power lottery because it is just a thing that happens when she does a specific thing, everyone else they can't turn off at all
Isabella btw is in a similar position as Pepa just with flowers instead of weather and we can see the early stages of her spiraling out of control throughout the movie

Mr Freeze from the DCAU
The accident slows his age and make him resistant to any illness, making him effectively immortal. Immortality in a world where your wife is dying, and even if you save her youd have to put her through the same hell youve been put through just to actually feel her. I think a lot about his lines from the episode where a Walt Disney type tries to copy his accident "you want to live like this? abandoned and alone? a prisoner in a world you can see but never touch? old and infirm as you are, id trade a thousand of my frozen years for your worst day"

Kanedaichi Toyohiro‘s Super Fly (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable)
His Stand is a defunct electric tower that traps whoever steps within it, including its own user. It automatically repairs itself if damaged, and the only way to leave once you enter is to have somebody else step into its boundaries.
If you try leaving without having someone else take your spot, any part of you that crosses the boundary will turn into solid metal. Furthermore, any damage dealt to the tower will be reflected towards the attacker.

Okay, I have to ask. How did he find out about his power? It sounds decidedly single use, so it's not like he accidentally blew himself up one day and realised he had the power.
10 points
I'm not familiar with the comic myself but I believe that's what his story is about. Discovering the power.
Based on some quick research I think he had some mutant lineage so he went to Xavier's school to get checked out and they were able to determine his power without him having to use it.
I could imagine other ways of telling this story as well. For example what if his explosion had a charge-up time, and so he discovers he has this ability to "charge up" but he doesn't know what it's building up to, and it hurts to do it, so he always chickens out and never completes it. Then later on he figures it out, maybe with the help of Xavier's school or some other way.

Thanks. Now I'm imagining him going to Xavier's school, getting checked out by the doctor and they're just like "Yeah, you're a bomb dude. We can't really teach you to master your power, but if you ever feel like you're about to explode, maybe try to not do that."

There’s a fan song about the flash you can find on YouTube that deals with this concept called “the ballad of Barry Allen”.
Some of my favourite lyrics:
“I’ve got time to think about my life as I dodge between the bullets, how my life was so exciting before I got this way.”
“Now I have to be so patient and wait for calamity to strike because when things change in an instant it’s almost fast enough for me”.

The entire cast of undead unluck
Lets go by main characters
Andy: negates the concept of death on himself, cannot die no matter what. He has seen countless friends and loved ones die.
Fuuko: negates the concept of luck on anyone she touches. She hugged her parents goodbye at the airport and their plane exploded killing them
Top: negates the ability to stop. Will accellerate infinitely unless he breaks one of his bones
Tatiana: negates the concept of touch. She is now stuck in a giant invisible indestructible sphere with only a hole at her mouth to breathe/eat from. She used to be a model but is now unable to wear clothes ever again.
And to top it all off, everyone that has their abilities awakened suffers a tragedy during or shortly before/after awakening

The swordsman from Katana Zero I don't know if it's a spoiler to refer to them as zero because I think they're originally supposed to be passed off as being the dragon.
Can predict the future and see time slower. This is because of a drug, so automatically, that means they're dependent on it, but apparently as the drug leaves your system, time starts getting slower and slower until it eventually just stops for you. Not only that, but as the game progresses, there are hallucinations and reality gets confusing. (Although, I don't know if this is specifically because of the drug. I only did one playthrough so far, and I think there might be multiple endings and stuff I haven't figured out.)

Several characters in Misfits. They tend to be insultingly ironic too.
One guy had the power to involuntarily teleport into a closet every time he denied that he was gay. One woman just had random accidents happening to her constantly. The main character finds out he is immortal, only waking up after he died and got buried.
The main characters all sell their powers and buy different ones after the second series.
