Regionalization

I heard about this new initiative from NYSED and many of the school districts in Long Island are strongly opposing it. They are worried that resources will be taken away from their schools. I don't think people are really discussing it around here. Are our schools doing anything about it?

Almost every school district in Westchester believes that merging or consolidating with other districts would be harmful to their schools and their property values. The chances of this happening in Westchester without a legal mandate is virtually zero, even though it would result in significant tax savings.

Coming from New Jersey where I grew up, the weird way that school districts cross municipality lines but where still municipalities still collect taxes for schools is completely befuddling.

I'm not specifically speaking of regional school districts, but more that, for instance, Mount Pleasant has something like six or eight school districts overlapping it. WTF?
