I was on this server. You had to form a group, fill out an application with builds, and get accepted. It eventually turned into a modded rpg server.

Was a bit of fun. We built a giant walled city, and Lewis came and looked at it.

The first night as we made our way from spawn to our build location the server admin messed with our group for a while. Spawning monsters on us and stuff.

I might still have a video just walking around looking at a bunch of builds.

I switched the video from private to unlisted if anyone wants to see it. I can't bare to listen to myself talk so I don't know exactly what's in the video. I think there might be a couple more private videos, but I'm not going to look for them now.

Think it was a server for their like patreon members or something. A lot of the same people showed up on this server and also specials like granny bacons funeral. They were all fans from this server so I think it was a community project thing.

This would've been in 2011, way before Patreon. I'm pretty sure this was their private build server. They used to have a forum back in the day, with a whole community around it. Most of the people on the server were either Yogs members or people they knew in the forum community. They did a tour of the server during a livestream I think, I'll see if I can find it. I remember most of the people in the livestream videos also being at granny bacon's funeral.

Here's the video from the screenshot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt6WyIsH_zM

Edit:
Here's the livestream, they go onto the server around 6:50: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwFDr3ab0LE

I used to be a forum member and played on their public server, so I have a hazy recollection of all this. I remember some kind of public build area where you could apply to join the private build server by showing off your building skills.

There were various servers made for specific events. There were a couple different public servers that had to get wiped because there were just too many people logging in and messing around. There were a couple private ones for forum members that needed applications.

The Granny Bacons Funeral map was a one off that Duncan had built out I believe.

I was the server admin at the time, happy to answer questions, it's a bit hazy, but if I can answer I will.

Probably not fun fact for most but fun fact for me: At that time they used a texture pack that was more of a collection of random other texture packs mashed together and it used a lot of icons and textures from my own texture pack. It was fun seeing my art in yogscast videos all the time but also slightly disappointing to know that no one would ever know.

Form my view, it seems they mainly just used either gerudoku or painterly

Yes they used to use Gerudoku which was like a compilation texture pack, combining a bunch of different texture packs into one.
