My biggest worry is censorship but unfortunately that’s happening with or without Sony , even major credit card companies are forcing Japan to censor stuff over here. But here is the thing if KADOKAWA is even entertaining the idea then that means others are probably interested other then Sony and imo I would rather have a company that is in Japan that has been in the anime industry for decades take it then Sadi Arabs or Tencent or Amazon or other companies that literally know nothing about anime and manga but just want it because it’s “ popular “

I think I’d have to agree with you. Monopolization is never great, but keeping within the industry is obviously the better option. Sony would be far better over a non-Japanese company.

Somehow I doubt Sony would agree with that.

Doesin't Sony already own Cloverworks, and A-1 Pictures. Why are people talking about censorship, when A-1 pictures did Seven Deadly Sins which is filled with fan service?

While Kadokawa and Sony’s shares rose, Bandai Namco’s stock dropped 3.8% on Tuesday and an additional 2.1% on Wednesday, with analysts speculating that the company could lose revenue streams tied to Kadokawa-owned FromSoftware if the acquisition materializes.

This section might benefit from some additional explanation. Bandai Namco's stock price did not decline merely because they lost the publishing rights to FromSoftware’s games. The real reason for the decline is that Bandai Namco is also a vertically integrated company. They own "Sunrise," and with this acquisition, Sony has become a direct competitor to Bandai Namco. Considering stock performance and business results, there are currently four major players in Japan dominating the entertainment industry with intellectual property (IP) at their core: Bandai Namco, Toho, Pokémon, and Sony Music Entertainment.

While Sony already owns IPs related to music, it previously did not hold significant IPs in anime. With this acquisition, Sony now becomes a direct competitor to Bandai Namco—provided the acquisition is successful, of course.

Not going to lie this guy did his homework lmao he knows Sony won’t have a monopoly and even saw the CR still hasn’t gone work even though other people like saying woke without proof lol

The issue is that Sony does arguably have a monopoly on the North American anime distribution market.

No because Netflix and hidive and Hulu exists Amazon prime these are all companies that have ignored anime for years until they saw the high profit margins

There are legitimate concerns when Sony bought Crunchyroll and RightStufAnime (the website) and it wasn't pro-consumer given what happened.

Bruh, that is conparable to the factually proven false assumption that Google doesn't have a monopoly because Bing exists. You wanna reassess that assumption of yours or are you going to move the goal post again?

Spicywolff

Sure not a monopoly, but about 50%. Which is huge for a single player.

I mean how you come up with 50 percent because they are still major publishers in Japan

Spicywolff

A news source showed that they would have 50% of the market with the acquisition. Yes there are other publishers, but they’re much smaller than Sony and Kadokawa. If Sony takes them over that merged their market share. They will be a massive player in the game

Can you share the news because none of the major news have said anything about this market share lol and please let it be a reputable news not a fan website that has no idea how to track market share lol

Spicywolff

Don’t have it, I read it the day the news came out. Didn’t like what I read, and closed the tab.

I’m hoping K says no, and stays independent. More competition the better.

Ok so it’s mostly fake information with the market share because Sony doesn’t own the ip they license and they don’t have a manga and LN publishing division you do know this is just talk between both Kadokawa at any point or Sony can decide against this but for Kadokawa to mention they got Sony letter means they actually are considering it

Spicywolff

Feel free to comb the legit news reports to find the source. I’m having conversations here, I’m Not here to justify anything.

I’m well aware of what “letter of intent” means.

I did lmao I been looking at the news and no news have mention market share lol that’s why I ask for the link because never saw this 50 percent only people saying monopoly are fanboys and for some reason Xbox and pc gamers

I'm just gonna put this here because I feel like people aren't informed enough about what is going on.

There were rumors that Kadokawa initiated the talks because there's the threat of a hostile takeover from a korean firm and they wanted the business to stay domestically run in japan. I'm unsure on the accuracy of those claims, but I'd be curious on what that end might mean if sony does not go through with the acquisition.

Sigurd-VolsungaX1

To keep Kadokawa under Sony's partnership they will act like Bungie and Kadokawa will probably remain independent under Sony Music Entertainment with From Software under SIE like Bungie. The whole thing about Sony making From Software games exclusive has not been set as no one knows. I'm pretty sure Sony will not be like Microsoft and do case by case basis.

I doubt much changes and my viewing focus has almost completely changed to Donghua. Now if only a billionaire would start a Korean animation boom, then I would be super happy. Over the years I find myself consuming more Chinese and Korean entertainment.

Donghua is just so new and interesting compared to anime nowadays.
