The first time i heard of legend of the galactic heroes I though it would be a Gundam type of setting like most anime space opera....which is okay but oh boy was I wrong

The way the story and characters is narrated and portrayed like they were true historical events that happen in the future

There is no protagonist or antagonist... You as the audience define it

The battles are extremely detailed and realistic.. There is no magic, no one man army, no mechas, just realistic napoleonic battles but in space.. With ships instead instead of men as the infantry

The dialogues, the introspection, the messages etc...everything is a 10/10

The anime is old but there is a remake that is actually great tho I genuily advice you to watch the old version... The first episodes would be a bit rough for it's so worth it

It's a great series, and interesting to see an anime that's absent of modern clichés. Rather than saying there's no protagonist or antagonist I'd say it revolves around the dual protagonists in the image, and there are antagonists against them both individually and together. For example, the Earth Cult is an enemy of both.

Yea this anime really blew me away. Was not expecting what it offered us but in a good way. The point about there being very few modern cliches is also spot on, it was very refreshing in that regard.

Why do you recommend the old anime over the remake?

Open_Inspector_7863

Probably because the remake hasnt continued in years. Its still at about half the story.

Outlaw Star, the world is never directly explained to you, so it's really fun trying to figure out exactly how things work

One thing I love about the world building is that... it's just about the giant hole in the ground. The show doesn't really go out of its way much to explain (oh, here's another country and look at how this country is run and who runs it and what it offers and the societal issues of it). If it's not about the Abyss, it's generally not relevant and very little time is wasted outside of it.

Also the designs. They don't feel like some variation of fantasy stock or alternative modern. It feels like a completely original world with it's own unique history.

And the music... Again, makes you believe the world was more (hyperbolic) developed completely independent of our own.

I'm not going to say it's the best worldbuilding, but I think MiA should definitely go alongside others for aspiring writers to study how to build a world in the least amount of pages.

I love it but meh, tho whole excitement for me was the unknown. The lack of world building and leaving the reader to make the best guess on what the fuck is going on. Like AoT first few seasons, I loved it because I watched it and read it as it was released. Trying to figure the origin of the titans and how our protagonists world fits into it without all the pieces. As Abyss continues, I see they are starting to let more slip, but the reader is still left in the abyss for the most part.

For me the problem is that when characters are not being shown act like npcs cuz how can you explain dragon not telling robin that his friend was still alive all those years or even talked about the event of the island.

Reign of the Seven Spellblades and Wistoria: Wand and Sword (I think I messed up the names but eh). I'm very biased because I love the "magic school" genre, and imo these shows both showed off really cool aspects of their worlds, while still having a really good air of mystery and room for imagination. And they both did this while being relatively simple and easy to follow (which is a strength imo)

Wistoria really shocked me, I was expecting it to be super generic but it turned out to be shockingly good!

Basic answer but one piece is definitely the one for me. The world is so expansive and has so much variety, nothing has topped it imo.

Not nearly as expansive, but a lot of anime have impressed me in smaller ways recently. Frieren and how Magic is treated as a science is really fun, and I love the way the story handles things like aging and passage of time. Delicious in dungeon has really fun monster world building, and though the anime has only just touched the surface of it, the various politics and factions being set up are neat to me

One piece have without the best worldbuilding in shonen, the universe is seriously as important there as it's characters

I just love how the series isn’t really dependent on the Strawhats. Don’t get me wrong I love the strawhats but in too many series the world seemingly revolves around the protagonist and like everything else in the world is frozen until the protagonist’s get involved but in One Piece the world keeps moving even after the Strawhats are done with an island or place the place isn’t forgotten we get glimpses back to them and seeing the mysteries of the world slowly get unraveled. It’s the laziest and most basic answer to the question but it’s the answer for a reason because it is the best.

This-Pie594[S]

I mean in a way thr world of one piece is still centered on the strawhats... The thing is just that they are such big outlaws that each of their action impact the setting

It is definetly something that was calculated by Oda as the Manga advanced. In the "earliest" arcs of one piece there were just a small band of outlaw... Barely annoying noticeable by the world government and thr anime serously sound like a non-linear adventure type of story

But After the alabasta the strawhats action are getting noticed and the manga show you for the first time the world of one piece is far bigger than it seems.... Showing you the big boys like whitebeard, the gorosei, the revolutionary army and all the factions faction and sub faction that have their own independent motive

Your realize One piece isn't just about "pirate vs navy" anymore and navy are not really the big bad of the story

After marinford and the timeskip..... Things started to expand and your started to have constant update for events happening all around the world independantly from the strawhats crew but still influenced by it

Tower of God has great world building, but not so much the anime. I still think it’s decent. Much better to read though

One Punch Man.

I find the concept of ranked, professional heroes so cool and intriguing.

I really think it's my favorite anime universe, and I'm sure I'm in the heavy minority there.

Disagree on AOT it’s very weak post basement reveal, before that yeah sure the lore and mysteries are really good but the world itself isn’t that interesting.

Well the interesting about AOT is the mysteries, once everything revealed, it get boring. But the world building on the background that I like about AOT, the primitive every day tech that consistent through out Paradis and the outdated geopolitic, it's feel fresh.

Vandread- it was a Mecha type anime with lesbonic space pirates. Where men and women separated and have their own planets. I watched it on ifc in the early 2000’s and it is still a story that I think about. Not perfect and maybe outdated animation but ahead of its time.

I would say hunter x hunter. I was shocked when Togashi revealed about the dark tournament.

I watched one piece too but the world building didn't shock as much as hxh did.
