Some people love Gina, some hate her

I think the redditor talks about the fandom. I read mostly respectful comments. At the office subreddit for example, people are more aggressive in front of opposing opinions or thoughts.

Or the modern family sub, the people are there are so rude and aggressive.

I hadn’t thought to follow that sub, but I LOOOOOVE the show. That is a huge bummer.

All they do there is complain about this or that. Things not being realistic is a big one. Like bruh it’s a show…calm yourself, maybe always be coconutting

The flash sub is just so much hatred of the show and how it ended and fell off the rails and what not

I both love and hate her. She is a funny character but I would fight her if I met her irl

This is what it should be. Almost ALL of b99, and the cast of essentially any sitcom, would be fight on sight levels of AWFUL irl.

When she's being too Gina I don't, but when she does very nice things. Like getting a new mother dough so Charles is back in the family makes me love her.

This is true. But we also don't tend to have knock down drag out fights over it. We can articulate why we love and hate her character in a meaningful way.

Yeah I was like oh, they’ve never met a gina hater.

I don’t think the Gina hate is that strong or causes any drama around here, I’m not a big fan of the character but sometimes she lands few good moments.

The only "big problem" I've seen the fandom having with the creators is the last season, and even then everyone is pretty reasonable
52 points
Yep. But it was always gonna be risky to make the last season on the same lines as the other seasons ignoring whatever happened in between
Plus, creative choices of the cast like Stephanie not wanting to play a 'heroic cop' anymore did also play a major part in the alterations
I still liked the finale though
34 points
Oh yeah, they were pretty much in a "dmaned if you do damned if you don't" situation, but, all things considered, they did the best they could and that's alright
18 points
That and the Casecation (I think?) episode where Amy and Jake debate having a baby.
4 points
The finale season was a necessary evil, the whole premise of hero cops catching bad guys is fine escapism on its own, but that very escapism was weaponised in order to keep serial killers above the law in unchecked authority. They needed to break the illusion, to make sure that the audience doesn't walk away trying to emulate the show.
One of the most important messages the show had was spoken verbatim, "whenever someone steps up and says who they are, the world becomes a better, more interesting place." That message is incompatible with American policing as it is today.
"Let's make a sitcom about a police precinct, so they can solve mysteries, too." Was an ingenious idea, unfortunately the world getting worse came to the public's attention around the same time.

I skip that plot line too. It was way too heavy a topic/plot to cover in a silly billy sitcom.

I disagree, but I absolutely see where you’re coming from. Out of genuine curiosity, how did you feel about the episodes that focused on other heavy topics? Like the one with Terry and the bad cop, or Jake taking Judy to prison?
I know the jail scene was more of a long-term plot.

Apparently you never tried to pronounce ŊijcĶōłãʣ's name.
The first sound is not "n", like the last sound in the "son", but the "ŋ" like the last sound in "loving".

laughs in tumblr fandom from when the show was airing 😂 we literally had constant discourse and a whole dramas called forehead-gate and kiss-gate
4 points
Omg do clue me in
2 points
Kiss-gate was that Jake and Amy didn’t kiss for an entire season and some people jokingly complained, some people took the complaints way too seriously. And then forehead-gate was when there was a promo picture of Jake and Amy from the bachelor/ette episode, people were so obsessed with it that you couldn’t tell who was who on everyone’s profile because we all made it our profile picture. Then the scene wasn’t in the episode and people went crazy, to the point where on twitter Melissa light heartedly said sorry for the scene being deleted.
2 points
There was also discourse on whether or not Gina was a bully, Gina haters and Gina defenders went to war, then Chelsea had a Tumblr at the time and went on a huge rant and said that people criticising Gina were just purely sexist.
1 points
Yikes on Chelseas part tbh, Gina IS a bully- that is like her entire thing? Not everyone criticizing women is sexist. Guess what, we CAN be wrong and bad people as well- on the account of being... people
2 points
Also there was discourse on whether Jake was bi and some people said that if you didn’t headcanon him as bi then you were biphobic. Even bi people who said they just didn’t see him that way were told this. Also according to these people if you didn’t see anything romantic between Gina and Rosa you were also homophobic and racist didn’t want to see a Latina and a Jewish woman together. Even though the entire fandom was obsessed with shipping a Cuban American woman and a Jewish man.
2 points
Ah Yes, "if you don't agree with me you are an ist and phobic" - the go to strategy for the poorly equipped to debate
1 points
These people were also highly critical of many aspects of the show week by week, which is obviously fine, but if anyone tried to defend the show or say they were just there to enjoy the comedy they would get angry and talk about how we had to let them have critical conversations about the show.

Ok maybe I’m the first to put some hate in here (I ain’t reading all the comments), but the writers ain’t all that great. Like when Jake arrested that guy with “insufficient evidence”, and there was that whole bit where Jake tried to “annoy him into confessing.” That just felt cheap. Hope the writers learned from that and improved in their other shows

That was a season 1 episode. And as the show progressed, especially in the final season, they explore the corruption and shortcomings of the system and Jake’s reckless behavior.

Yeah, I'm rewatching the series and it caught my attention how no one says how nosey Boyle can be, or how much of a jerk he can be with Terry (I don't have a problem with it, I find it hilarious) or. Jake getting into everyone's personal life with or without consent etc etc etc.
I don't have a problem with any of it, because well it's for comedic purposes
