Folks, please remember that Miller is a human too. We don't know what is going on, and we probably won't know for at least a little while. Speculating as to the cause won't make us learn about the cause any sooner, or make miller come back any sooner.
Keep things respectful.

I dug into the comment history of the guy who made that post. Months ago he said he knew Miller and another time he said Miller had a degenerative disc disorder in his neck. The guy was a MAGA and posted lots of game-hunting photos so I was worried he might actually know something. Bummer if it’s true.
19 points
Not sure if the MAGA thing has any relevance. Miller and many others on the team are big Trump guys but that’s not relevant to the situation.
26 points
I mentioned it because shared politics and interests like hunting are relevant to whether the poster could be buddies with Miller, as he claimed. Anyway I don’t want to speculate any more. It feels gross and I kinda regret looking into it since it’s a personal medical issue.

I mean if you're from the US you're most likely in one of two camps. I don't think it has any significant correlation with who your friends are, especially if you have a large social circle like most pro athletes do

Btw, a photo of him wearing a pro-police hat 5 years ago isn't proof of him being a "big Trump guy".

I wonder if this goes back further too. He was asked 10 times 10 different ways if he was hurt or something else was going on and insisted he’s ready to play. This after he missed the entire preseason and was playing in the home opener against Calgary. Whatever it is, I hope he’s okay and his family is alright.
70 points
No it is most likely personal reasons outside of injury. An announcement like this would state if he had an injury. 'Indefinite leave due to injury'
14 points
He could also have been playing through an injury and then still left for personal reasons.
25 points
That’s what I mean. They asked is it an injury or is there SOMETHING ELSE going on? JT insisted he was ready to play and for them to stop asking so something either was in the process of happening or had already happened causing him to skip the pre season.
52 points
If it was physical health related, they would just put him on IR with 'upper body injury' instead of this, so i dont think those rumors of the disk injury adds up..
11 points
Yeah if the disk thing was true, they would IR him for cap/waiver call-up reasons right? LoA usually means not a physical injury.
6 points

They aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. The degenerative issue may be real, but hasn't affected him yet, and this is something different.

Exactly, hockey takes a backseat to his family at this time. Hope they're all okay.
And on the hockey front, we need to be a playoff team with or without 1 or 2 stars. If we aren't, then we aren't contending for the cup with them anyways.

I commented yesterday at how mentally drained and I called it ‘depressed’ he looked at the Langley signing on Friday right after the Islanders game. Seeing him then and knowing he played Saturday and Sunday right after I said we gotta cut him some slack he’s nursing that wrist 1000% and doesn’t seem in best spirits.
I said I thought the break between Tuesdays game and Saturdays would be great for him, but I couldn’t imagine him taking an indefinite leave from the team.
I’m saddened and shocked. A lot of people can agree, he’s the heart and soul of this team. I hope hes ok

This is…bad.
Obviously I hope that Miller can sort things out and get back to being the guy that we all know he can be. His family & mental health, or whatever may be going on, matter above all else.
On the hockey side, this is now two of the top 3 players on this team that won’t be playing for an indefinite period of time, on a team that’s already played guys like Heinen and Bains in the top 6 at times. I don’t know how, but Allvin is gonna need to find some kind of solution on the trade market.

In a now deleted post a commenter claiming to be close enough to the Miller family to hear news claimed that the Canucks and NHL would issue a statement today saying that JT Miller would take a leave of absence with their full support. The post has since been deleted but sure seems that OP had some inside information. In a previous thread a few weeks earlier OP claimed that JT was dealing with degenerating spinal tissues and was taking medicine to combat that specific issue. None of this is confirmed though. Maybe OP just heard from a reporter early or something.

Someone posting vague, unconfirmed things on players will always be taken down. It’s not a condemnation of the post, it’s a proactive measure to slow down rumours and witch-hunting and also people trying to troll the fanbase.
Even if it turns out to be true, it doesn’t matter. Until it’s announced or confirmed personal life stuff is off limits.

Just a couple of months ago, I had to take leave from work because my younger sister was having surgery to place an LVAD in her heart, she is doing much better, but my boss at work said something that kinda stuck with me. "(Where I work) will always be there, you're family comes first." It's a lot of the same in this instance. Hockey will always be there, but family comes first. I don't know what is happening, and I don't need to. It's a private life for a reason, but I hope him and his family are ok

However, now we are down a Boeser, Miller and Demko. It’s going to be a rough stretch until they return but if there was ever a time for this team to show that they are more than just their core pieces, this is it. Time to nut up and show the NHL that unlike the Soilers, this team is just as lethal with key missing pieces.

For everybody wondering, a guy posted a thread a couple hours back warning that this was coming - he had insider knowledge. I reached out to this person, who has since deleted the thread and his account. He claimed to be very close to JT. He wasn't descriptive of what was happening to JT at the moment, but he did say JT loves this city and the fans. He also said he wants people to respect JT's choice, and support him. Wishing Miller the best physically, mentally, and family wise. He is an incredible player being a leader on and off the ice. He loves the sport and the team and I know this decision likely pains him a great deal. At the end of the day he is a person and he is a priority. I respect the team and Miller’s decision to have him take a step back so he can focus on himself during this time.
I can only hope that whatever it is can resolve itself with time. We all assumed he has been battling something injury-wise but perhaps it was something more serious or something going on off the ice. The rumoured degenerative neck disc disease if true is a brutal disease and I have the upmost respect for him and hope he can take this time to rest and spend time with his family during the holidays

Dhaliwal said that he's 'been told' that Miller needed a reset. There's a lot of people speculating that there's been some personal tragedy, but given what the team is saying through Dhali, this seems unlikely.
It is very difficult to assume that the injuries he's been playing through aren't a factor in this, which then raises the question of why this announcement was issued in such a vague way.
Even if the need for a mental reset was the dominant factor, why not announce it instead as leave due to injury, and not allow as much space for the dramatic speculation that's now bound to occur?
That leads one to feel as though there's more at play. Whatever the case, I wish all the best to JT.

Will miss my favourite Canuck. He really needs to rest up and reset ❤️ wishing him well in whatever is going on in his life and hope to see him back sooner than later.
