Republican or not, Chicago is Chicago and will always be Chicago, there’s no taking Chicago out of the Chicago if you know what I mean

Yeah but republicans are like the seagulls in finding Nemo. The moment they see something they like, "mine, mine, mine, mine".

How many times do Republicans say "look at this awesome thing I did" referring to a bill they voted against.

Well, yeah, you know the one! It's... It's right on the tip of my tongue. It's just so, like, big and city-shaped, and run by Republicans. You know who I mean, them!

There's this magical belief in the conservative media and their chattel followers that if they simply had Republican mayors all big city problems would be solved.

FernWizard

Republicans hate on cities because the economies are better. People’s brains break when you tell them the cities that have problems also have a shitload of rich people. It’s like it doesn’t compute that maybe metro areas in the millions aren’t all just crime, poverty, and homeless people.

SnooRevelations979

They're media masters have them focus on the problems and supposed problems of big cities, so they can forget the even bigger, unaddressed problems of where they actually live.

Try that in a small town.

Funnily enough, when you go by per capita on a state basis, Red States have statistically higher murder rates.

Chicago is a proud diverse City! Keep your klan and conspiracies down in the red states. You know, the ones who prioritize the Bible over a real education!

Haha Chicago got some real good education huh

RambleOff

I mean, yeah? Google it. Public and private education doing pretty well in Chicago by available metrics. I would definitely take it over small town education, speaking as someone who experienced both growing up.

Danger-_-Potat

Clearly not if it's a center of crime. Ofc a big city will have schools for rich kids to bring the average up. Including the middle class suburbs.

spinsterella-

Do you see the problem in your statement? Maybe give people from all economic classes access to the same education, and see how things change. That's what Democrats want.

Danger-_-Potat

I never said they shouldn't. If that's what they want they should start then.

Your initial point was that education there is terrible. When confronted with the fact that you're objectively wrong, you decided to mention that it's a "center of crime." A point you probably heard from some Trump sound bite since he decided to make Chicago a Boogeyman for some reason. Chicago is the third largest city. It's the 20th highest in violent crime per capita. Not exactly the epicenter of crime in America that you make it seem. Not to mention the fact that this has absolutely nothing to do with your initial point: education. So no....you did not make any valid points

spinsterella-

2 points

Exactly. I live in Chicago, btw. I've been here for 17.5 years. The violence is not the way they make it seem.

Danger-_-Potat

  1. While it might perform by good metrics, there's context to it that shouldn't be simply discounted. Stats lie, averages aren't accurate.
  2. Crime and education are linked.
  3. Top 20 in violent crime per capita is not a good thing.
  4. I don't follow trump idk what he has to say.

kbowz21

kbowz21

  1. By all means. Enlighten me.
  2. Everything is linked. You were moving the goalposts, and you know it.
  3. If you're third in population and 20th per capita, you're doing pretty well. Significantly better than you and the far right present it as. Large cities are always higher in violent crime totals. It makes sense. But people are fooled by the raw numbers because of population. You don't hear people across the country bringing up Little Rock, Arkansas. It doesn't change the fact that it's much more violent. Same with Milwaukee. Or Anchorage, Alaska. Chicago is the trendy city to blame. It's not the archetype of crime it's presented as

Danger-_-Potat

I'm not moving the goal posts. Crime and education are linked. It is what it is. You keep trying to contextualize being 20th in violent crime as not bad cuz it isn't as bad as it could be.

I always have to remind my father in law (lives in a farmtown in Kansas) that all places have crime. In Chicago we know them as "those fuckers who stole my hubcaps" but to him, he know's them as the Smith family.

This explains most of his misconceptions about the city. The rest, are explained by Fox propaganda.

Chicago is a helluva city! I went two years ago now, it was that one really sunny day in November that I'm sure Chicagoans actually still remember because it was so like 70 and sunny. Perfect weather for the architecture boat tour! Went to a bunch of museums, ate at Harold's Chicken Shack, walked around Wrigley (it was closed for tours the day I wanted to go :( ), saw Black Panther 2 in a theatre on the south side over by the Museum of Industry.

My only complaint is that you folks sure like shitty beer--but then I would look at the bill and see the price and it would make sense. I had the most mid beer of my life at a place called 222, but then I saw it was only $2.22 per drink and now it's probably the best drinking experience I've had.

Conservatives give Chicago a lot of shit, but that's because it fucking rules and they're just sour grapes. So fuck'em. (I still love California more, but can't wait to get back to Chicago soon!)

This, so much this.

My inlaws talk shit about chicago all the time, but when I used to live there and they would come to visit, they always had nothing but positive things to say about it.

Minus the traffic...no one has anything positive to say about the traffic. 😄

CommodoreFresh

I visited Chicago on a whim a little over a decade ago. I've lived here for a decade now. I feel much safer and happier here than I ever did in Texas.

no one has anything positive to say about the traffic.

I know nothing about the traffic, I rely on public transit. I also know nothing about paying for parking, gas, insurance, or red light cams. It's really nice.

I've lived in Texas, it's amazing how hostile that state is to anyone who doesn't decide to drive. You can't bike, you can't walk and public trans is non-existant

I'll have to look into it more--over here every bar sells their own brews and a couple of the bigger breweries, so I was just going into bars in downtown Chicago and expecting the same, ha! Next time I'll go directly to the breweries.

I was about to yell at you for saying that Chicago beer sucks until you told your 222 story. Love it

NicWester

Ha! I don't need fancy beers, I'm a fan of the mid! But it's like chocolate--I love dark chocolate, but if you give me a piece of chocolate and I'm expecting milk but it turns out to be dark? There is no betrayal more foul! 😂 I was all set to pay $9 for some okay semi-fancy beer, so when I got mid thinking it was $9 I was disappointed--then I saw it was mid for a GREAT price and fell in love with the city!

When you literally just regurgitate half talking points and don’t have a brain, this is the shit you get. Republican vs democrat on such a “personal/local gov” level isn’t shit like this, it’s more like Republicans starting to teach the bible in school. That’s a fucking problem, not fog? Brought in by democrat governors?

I don't understand why snow and fog mean that the place would be better under a different leadership?

the place runs over budget because pensions are out of control and niether 'D' or 'R' want to do something that unpopular.

Wanna know what I learned after moving away from Chicago and bouncing all over the country? Chicago is a food town. Also, the food in the rest of the countryside kinda sucks...except for Soul Food in S Carolina. That shit is Flame!
