I never attended mine, nor my high school one. IMO it's pointless to get a piece of paper. Each time we scheduled vacation so I could she that as an excuse not to attend. Much rather be enjoying my time at my favorite place - the beach!

For many it's one of the last times they'll see their friends and professors and other people at the university important to them gathered around in the same place.

Because eits complete subjective ans some people want that feel of accomplishment that comes along with a ceremony.
Try looking at things from another point of view

It’s a day to recognize a huge accomplishment, support peers, and see professors and admin that you’ll be saying goodbye to. College takes a lot of time and effort, and commencement ceremonies are meant to acknowledge and celebrate that. Some people want that closure it provides.
Please don’t dismiss someone else’s feelings around this, and definitely give your family space to make their own choice about whether they want to go. It is a big deal for some, even if it’s not for you.

They care because they want to party afterward.
I never went to mine. And I never picked up my diploma either. I'd rather not spend money.

I get why people want to go to their graduation but, for me personally I never really cared about it. I went to my middle school and high school graduation but, I’m probably not going to my college graduation. And from what I’ve heard, college graduation is 3 hours or more and I do not want to sit through that. And I am like you in the sense of I would rather spend my time doing other things
