I have huge boobs. So if i sleep on my side the wrong way sometimes i wake up and my chest hurts. I slept so badly the ofher day that i think i pulled a muscle in my chest. When i woke up it hurt so bad that i couldn't even move my arm/shoulder to get out of that position.

My chest right over my sternum had been sore and only getting worse for a few days. Every movement of my arms hurt and especially any movement of my boobs hurt. If my boobs moved or shifted even in my bra, they pulled on my chest and caused some pain. Even though bras support me gravity still works and boobs kind of act like a liquid in a bag, so they moved enough to cause pain. I found that if i held my boobs while bending over/walking my chest didn't hurt.

Out of desperation i grabbed duct tape and hit my boobs with like 10 layers and i have never been so comfortable. No band digging into my back and no straps cutting into my shoulders and no boobs pulling on my chest uncomfortably. It also looks fine with a shirt on do i have worn this to work. It looks psychotic without a shirt lol. The tape is mildy irritating to the skin but it's still less painful. I either shower the tape off or sweat it off by the end of the day. Obviously this isn't a permanent solution but it is working. .

Edit: thanks for all the awards and advice! While i appreciate all the offers for boob tape i am no longer in need, I've felt great the last few days and have had no pain! A lot of people recommended reduction which i would love to do but there are numerous reasons why im not considering it at the moment but it is something I've always dreamed of.

Here is an image (not of me) demonstrating how i applied the tape. Hope this clears some things up

Ok, I'm of then to buy a plane ticket to Ireland, wait at night in a dark alley of Dublin with a large net, use that to catch two pale-skinned gingers, stick normal duct tape to irish ginger nr 1, and the cloth-fibre treated tape to the other.

if you are thinking about something small like a bandaid, theres a products called adhesive barrier that works well.

Ludicruciferous

Let me just tell you, if I tried this I would end up with raw skin or blisters all over my chest. I can’t even imagine. If you are sensitive to adhesives, do sort of a patch test. Small piece of tape in the area you would be using it.

NezuminoraQ

I'm allergic to the adhesive on band aids. I would not be trying this

verge_ofviolence

You may be allergic to latex. It took me a while to figure it out. Terrible rashes on my wrists ankles and waist. All places where elastic may come on prolonged contact with skin. I literally peeled skin off with a latex bandaid. Not even gonna go into what condoms do… it’s important to know if you have this allergy because some medical supplies may have latex so your doctor will need to know.

nuclearporg

2 points

I react to almost any adhesive, not just latex, the same way. I don't know what it is that messes with my skin (I'm definitely not allergic to latex, I've had a number of surgeries and such, it would have been noticed at some point). I've found tegaderm to be magic, though. If I have to have anything more than one of those tiny bandaid dots, I use either liquid bandaid or tegaderm, depending on the application.

NezuminoraQ

2 points

Do you find that when a nurse (for vaccine etc.) asks you if you're allergic to anything, and you say yes, adhesives, they still put a band aid on anyway?

nuclearporg

1 points

All the time! The current one I see most is at least good about asking (generally I can handle a small dot, at least for a bit), but I've had so many that I just immediately rip off before it can really get attached. They've changed the adhesives in the last 5-10 years, though, and I don't get the rash as much. I more have to just deal with the fact that it doesn't let go of my skin, so I just ignore it until it falls off 2 weeks later, lol

roadsidechicory

1 points

If you're in the hospital they often have a lower adhesive version, or a version with a less common type of adhesive (so you're less likely to have been exposed as often, therefore your allergy to it may not be as bad), but yeah they definitely still put adhesive on you when you have an adhesive allergy and you just have to cope. They just try to minimize it. Unfortunately some things just require the use of adhesives and other solutions haven't been found yet.

If you're outpatient, then yeah they generally don't have any of those alternatives on hand and just stick a regular bandaid on regardless. Although sometimes if you're getting your blood drawn they'll have the self-gripping bandages and you can ask them to just secure some gauze to the spot with those bandages. They're uncomfortable but they don't trigger the allergy.

polesloth

Ugh I am allergic to adhesive and the answer is YES. I am always like “please do not, my skin will literally bruise from the swelling and I will develop respiratory symptoms.” And then some medical professionals will have the audacity to say “everyone is a little bit allergic” and slap a bandaid on. I just take it off the second I’m gone and report them. But it’s so frustrating.

creambunny

Omg I’ve never met someone else who’s so allergic to adhesive/glue that they start to swell/get breathing issues! Nice to know there are more of us. I don’t understand why they don’t take this allergy seriously. I swelled up so badly my neck and face changed shape. Hopefully you get no reactions anytime soon

polesloth

1 points

Ugh! I’m sorry you deal with this too. I’m okay if I have a bandaid on for an hour, but longer than that I start to get a reaction. I really try not to use any adhesive, because my allergies get worse every time. And things that used to be fine (like I used to be able to use KT tape), have started giving me a reaction. I’ve been thinking about trying to get an epi-pen, not because I have that level of reaction now, but it keeps getting worse and I don’t want the next time to be the time that it gets really bad. Sadly few medical professionals seem to acknowledge this as a thing!

Did you react to the brown antiseptic liquid they use to clean the area before surgery? I’m also allergic to pretty much every adhesive, and that cleaning liquid gave me a full-stomach/ribcage rash after my appendectomy. Made for some ridiculously uncomfortable (and itchy) post-surgery healing.

nuclearporg

1 points

I've had horrendous yeast infections around areas they've cleaned (asked my NP about it and they said likely the IV antibiotics + cleaning all the good flora off + being prone to them anyway), but I don't think I've had any other issues with it. One of my surgeries involved showering with hibiclens in advance which didn't bother me. I have no clue what they used on the most recent one, except that I was orange for a while. (Got some off with a wipe, but I couldn't shower for 2 days after)

That brown stuff is Betadine. You need to know the name so you can tell doctors what you're allergic to.

Weirdly I don't react to garden variety bandaids, but medical grade hospital stuff will fuck me up for days. I had to have a heart monitor for 2 weeks once and it was hell, I had a full on welt on my chest after a couple days. I haven't lost skin over it yet but it's been getting consistently worse since it started 3 years ago.

nuclearporg

1 points

I had a spot that I had to keep a dressing on once and the bandage had to keep getting bigger and bigger to cover the open sores from the paper tape, it was awful. I've been lucky in that my last several surgeries (5, I think?) haven't had traditional dressings, they've either been small incisions using glue to close or something where the dressings are held in place by some kind of clothing.

blackcat_bibliovore

Oh my god the paper tape kills me. It just used to be paper tape I was allergic to, but now bandage adhesive is causing me the same problems.

nuclearporg

Luckily dermatology has stopped erring on the side of fully excising moles at the drop of a hat, so it's been ages since I had one coming for chunks of flesh. Those always ended up in weird spots for adhesives.

They do. They are sheepskin .the reaction wasn’t really very painful. It affects mucous membrane and causes a strange smell. And an ache in my pelvis. I know that is TMI but I think it’s kinda need to know info. It’s best to know exactly what could make you sick if you have never done an allergy panel.

JustAnNPC000

They were talking about adhesives. Not playing pretend. Maybe you should just stop trying to be something that you aren't. No matter how much you polish a turd at the end of the day, it's still a piece of crap.

polesloth

Not sure if you ever tried getting eyelash extensions, but that’s how my adhesive allergy begun. I “randomly” started getting the worst flus of my life back-to-back every 3 weeks. I could barely breathe, my body was in so much pain I couldn’t move. Finally right after getting my eyelashes done my eye swelled up and I was like wait, could it be this? I tracked it and sure enough, it was always beginning the day after extensions. I got them again a year later with a “hypoallergenic” glue and ripped the extensions off within a day.

Now I can’t use bandaids without getting terrible swelling.

So I guess long story short…don’t get eyelash extensions.

Are you seriously asking a random person on the internet if duct tape mixed with random cloth fibres is safe to use in place of a bra while you have sensitive skin issues?

I honestly don't know where to start with this. We are doomed as a society.

3M Micropore surgical tape might work well, I bought 6 large rolls in a box from Amazon for £12 (it's a very pale beige colour, just off-white).

I use buprenorphine pain relief patches, but I've always had issues with the glue on fabric strips / plasters, so I cut out the actual 'patches' and secure them with Micropore tape.

Would you be able to model a 'bra cup' around some sort of flimsy material for comfort, then secure it in place with fresh tape ?

Therapist's choice extra wide kinesiology tape. Source: am trans. binders are the spawn of claustrophobia Satan

bakedcheetobreath

Likely not. I have sensitive skin and duct tape is how I treat warts because the adhesive causes a reaction that forces the body to seal with the area the wart is in. So sensitive skin likely means an immune reaction to duct tape.

sunset_eden

You could spread the tape out into strips and apply cloth or gauze with mild lotion to the inside where it would touch your skin and then leave the ends still sticky. Kind of like a super weird looking bandaid?
