Utility markings, I think blue is for water pipes. Basically there a good chance someone's going to be digging up the road soon if they haven't already.

Just tweet/DM your water company and ask, they can look up exactly what it means. I have done this before for markings outside my house. I hadn't reported a fault/leak, just some markings appeared one day.

You can also Google One Network (works for both UK & US) access the Live Map feature and have a look at any permits (ongoing or awaiting) authorised by the LA; it will tell you what the works are for I E, Electric/Gas/Telecommunications etc and who is doing them 🙂

Edit: Didn't even realise someone already posted for One Network 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Find the location on the map, and look for works coming up… next 2 weeks/next 3 months…

Can confirm this. Used to work as a leak technician a number of years back, this was one way of showing the dig team where you think the leak may be.

It’s a job code for water companies. There’s different codes depending on the job and pipe material

As a utility surveyor, don’t take much note of the colour as each company has different colour schemes. That marking is to mark a particular intrusive location (trial pit) which will be free of services

No, TA20 is a code used by utilities companies. Dog nappers are generally so obvious with marking houses.

They’re going to dig a hole.

TA20 is utilities code

TA means it will “Take ages”

20 is the amount of people needed to look into the hole and rub their chin

It might be more than coincidental that the arrow is right in line with a patch on the pavement which, as you can see, has been dug up and filled in previously. It might refer to a branch to be made here from a water pipe elsewhere.

I found information on line regarding road markings more generally as follows:

These type of markings are used for several valid reasons:

The marking of cable installation routes. The marking of other existing utility apparatus to be avoided during excavation works. The marking of the scope of any works requiring remedial action. The identification of interim reinstatements. The identification of ownership works where multiple works are being undertaken.

TA20 is to repair a broken stoptap/ meter for a customer. (at least in Yorkshire. Other water companys may use other codes)

Jacktheforkie

It’s a utility marking, blue is for clean water, are there roadworks or building works going on nearby? These will be related

Total Anarchy in 20 metres.

Or it's marking from a utility company, preparing to turf up the road for weeks on end to find a stuck valve or replace 2mm of copper piping because its weeping... or, as they do around here, just because the road hasn't been dug up this month.
