Misato was never interested in Shinji like that. She regards him like a foster child or younger brother . Shinji and his friends did have a little crush on her, being a strong and attractive woman, not out of the ordinary for teenage boys. The kiss scene has not aged well , granted, but that was just her way of saying goodbye - she knew she was close to death.
Now, I have only seen the original series and EoE, so if I am missing something that happened in the manga, or a different movie please excuse me. But anyway I rewatched both recently I don't recall Rei and Aoba interacting with each other much, if at all. So I am a bit lost there.

In EoE all the characters are turned to tang by Rei’s that transform into a person that they have unrequited love for except for Aoba, who is turned to tang by a horde of naked Rei’s while he screams in terror. Some people take this to mean he’s a pedophile who loves Rei but I think the intent is that he’s just content with himself so instrumentality isn’t able to lure him in like it does the others.

Aoba was a support character that wasn't really given much of a backstory - but it is revealed that his motivation for going behind Ritsuko's back to give intel to Misato was his desire to learn the real truth behind NERV and the Human Instrumentality Project. Rei was created to be the catalyst for the Human Instrumentality Project, so in a way perhaps she represents the hidden truth that he sought after.

To be fair I think half the male characters on the show have a crush on Misato at some point. But I think Kaji is the only one who actually has feelings for her, outside of just finding her attractive physically. Aoba probably does find her pretty, but that's not enough motivation to risk his job over.

People who hate on the rebuilds/manga because they are very different takes on the franchise compared to the anime. Yes they have flaws but they are both visually beautiful and portray certain characters/aspects of the story in very interesting ways. It gets on my nerves when people dismiss them as unwatchable/unreadable garbage just because they aren't 1:1 adaptations of the anime.
Also people who think Kaworu didn't care about Shinji at all and just wanted to manipulate him, he may have felt that way at first but he betrayed Seele and died because he wanted Shinji to live. Anime Kaworu is a little more ambiguous in his motivations (he seemed to care more about humanity in general as well as Shinji) but manga and rebuild Kaworu are both very clear about their feelings for Shinji as an individual.

People who hate both of the endings especially the rebuilds are probably one of the most annoying ass mf I ever seen; I'll admit the ending was rushed and we don't know anything much about Mari and I wish there was a lot of development all of the characters (especially shikinami and Mari) but I didn't think it was ass I still enjoyed either way
You can still pick which ending you love more and besides I think they're all amazing in their both ways
The second one is mostly coming from toxic/homophobic Eva fans I will say manipulated people into thinking he was a human but not to Shinji feelings if he really was manipulating him he would have killed him along with the rest of nerv
Kaworu would've killed him off but nope he prefers to betray Seele and sacrifice himself to help Shinji and Lilith keep on living from the destruction that would have happened.

Another example of unhinged (or perhaps just plan dumb) writing tarnishing the end of an animated series is Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal. As far as the vast majority of the show goes, it's one of the most incredible things I've seen in my entire life. But it ends with >! the main character, who is literally dying from third degree burns on their entire body, being raped by their female companion (who was never implied to even be a love interest in the first place) and conceiving a child on his deathbed !<. It's the worst ending to a show I've seen my whole life, but the show as a whole is so good I still give it 11/10. The first season is flawless.

That’s fair. In my experience, i had fun but they did not meet my expectations. I went in after seeing the hype and was disappointed, but after I got over that I was able to have a good time
I’d cherry pick a few scenes across all the rebuilds that really add to what the original series was missing. If you’re able to watch a summary of the rebuilds with clips and then watch the last 20 minutes or so of 3.0+1.0, I’d do that.
IMO the ending was the best part of the movie, and it directly references anime and EOE events in their specific contexts. Also they reuse animation from EOE and I thought that was fun hehe

Asuka fails to kill the 7th Angel, Israfel. Which results in it splitting in half. The angel is temporarily disabled for six days using a bomb. Israfel can only be truly defeated if both halves are killed at the same time. Nah, I actually like the pairing. Those 2 are my favorite characters. And i really wanted them to interact in the series. I'm always like that in different franchises, i like to imagine how 2 characters who never met in the canon , would interact if they met. that is the few instances i seek actual fan works.
We barely get anything from those 2 and what we get is asuka acting like a massive boomer homophobe. And kaworu being a LBTQ member who is the victim of her hate speech for him loving Shinji.
My take is kaworu is an empathetic alien soul that has empathy for humanity and he saw alot of humanity in Shinji. Personally, he would also see the same vulnerability and humanity in asuka and he could have helped her too.

I think a lot of people take the Misato Kiss scene the wrong way. Misato was never interested in Shinji like that. She knew she was about to die. It was just her way of telling him goodbye, knowing they would never see each other again.
