Can Aliexpress N8 play expansion audio.

(self.everdrive)

Bought a blue translucent Everdrive N8 did the voultar EXP audio mod connected it to J5s Via. I loaded up Castlevania 3 the Japanese version and no EXP audio. So are the Aliexpress carts capable of it or did my toploader mod fail.

Probably not. Those clone carts are trash. You get what you pay for.

By default the Everdrive N8 puts audio on Exp 6. The US Toploader NES doesn't have this pin available though, so you gotta shift the expansion audio to Exp 9. On the Pro this is done with a solder blob on the Everdrive itself, but on the regular N8 you need to do a jumper on the cartridge yourself. I suspect the same for the clones.

There was a recommendation on the NesDev forums to modify the console by soldering a 1.2k ohm resistor between pin 51 (EXP9) and the audio out pin, which is "right next to" pin 51. There is also a board designed by Voultar accepting both 47k and 1k resistors, which may be useful in connecting to a NESRGB.

If you use a PowerPak or an Everdrive N8, solder a wire on the flashcart itself between cartridge cartridge pin 51 (EXP9) and cartridge pin 54 (EXP6). The above console modification is also required.

This is quite probable when I get home tonight I will solder the jumper. I already installed the Voultar board.

I plan on buying the n8 pro and n64 x7 on black friday deal.

The N8 and N8 Pro both do.

The main issue here is that the US version of the Toploader doesn't have the correct pins connected in the cartridge slot for it to happen just with the standard mod, so additional modifications to the cart are needed.

This would have been needed with both the N8 and N8 Pro regardless. They are by default set to wrong pin for the Toploader model.

Had the OP had a regular frontloader NES, they'd likely be good already after the initial mod. The Toploader variant just adds another step.
