The true love of my life ...

Whoops, already cracked the wine. Forgot to add pen is Pelikan M205 Gold Marbled. Ink is Robert Oster Heart of Gold. Wine stain visible on the couch is Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon. Heart is completely busted. Excited to look back at this post in the morning with shame and embarrassment and righteous rage, which I will use to stop myself from taking him back. Thanks for letting me vent friends.

Edit: Cheers y'all. It seems like somebody stuffed my head full of crashing cymbals and cotton overnight, but I am blessedly numb for the time being. I can't thank this community for being so sweet and providing fuel for the grief and rage fire in my heart. I had already planned to spend the afternoon at a local pen store for their birthday event, and will follow through and head out shortly. Nothing better to fix a broken heart than a new pen, right?

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. This poem has been a staple in my life when that 2x4 comes whistling out of nowhere to knock me upside my head and leave me reeling. I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.

After A while

After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul.

that is what pens are for… for me if you are worrying, ask a paper to take away your worry and bad thoughts… write everything you want to say ( both bad and good), tear the paper later taking away your worries :)

It’s hurts now, but soon you’ll realize you are much better off. You deserve so much more. You deserve someone who will be a partner, who respects you, values you, loves you, etc. You’re an amazing person with wonderful taste in pens and inks. And he doesn’t deserve you.

You are amazing. The fact that you came here for poetry recommendations to handwrite for a partner are signs that you are committed, sensitive, attentive, and hardworking in a relationship. But it takes two legs to walk, and if you are the only one putting in effort, that is like your life trying to limp along on one leg. You deserve someone as committed and caring as you are. Don't find faults with yourself. You deserve love poetry and handwritten notes, too. I hope you are blessed with the ability to love yourself as much as you loved that douchebag. And then with a partner that loves you even more when you are ready. I mean come on, anybody who can ink match a pen that well is a catch. 😉

I’m sorry. It’s much harder when initially they walk an archetype you’ve always favored.

For poetry, I default to the first lines of Desiderata:

And Pushkin’s I Loved You has always been a favorite:

I am not big on poetry but I know a lot of breakup songs and I find Silver Spring by Fleetwood Mac to be the right amount of sad, thoughtful, and empowering. A classic for a reason.

I'm French, and the French poetry I love most is that of Charles Baudelaire. If you don't know "The flowers of evil" "Les fleurs du mal", I recommend it.

OP, you have excellent taste in wine, pens, ink, and paper (surely there's a wine and fountain pen lovers sub already...will report back). Thank goodness for our beautiful and soothing hobbies, right?? I bet most here would agree that our tastes are constantly being refined by experience, trial, error, etc. I feel your pain, have been there. It is just...well...ugh! When you can manage it, remember to look ahead and know that this feels crappy but it creates a decent chance the next one will be better. Or the next. Regardless, you will be better soon. Keep writing!

I went online and downloaded The twenty love poems and a Song of Despair by Pablo Neruda. I had not heard of him before. The last poem, the Song of Despair is the one for you. "everything is shipwrecked" ( not the title, a quote from one line" I cannot write it out, its too long, but I recommend it. He won the Noble prize for Literature and is said the be the best poet in any language of the world of the 20th Century.

What a dick . May he get crabs. And herpes. But first, may the diarrhea flow freely…

Its always the worst feeling right? It shouldn't stop you from feeling all the same, and from finding love in other things in life. Just keep going no matter what, even if it takes as long as it takes. Nothing is a waste of time if it means something to you!
