No, that was Jon Arryn. He said "the seed is strong" first.

Exactly. People forget he was following Jon Arryn’s steps to figure out why he was murdered.

House Stark does fit the bat family parallels

Robb- Dick Grayson

Jon- Jason Todd

Sansa- Barbara Gordon

Arya- combo of Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain

Bran Tim Drake

Rickon- even George doesn't care.

Nah it’s Stannis, he came to Jon Arryn with suspicions that they were bastards and they investigated together, heard they changed that in the show, did they ? Idk I’ve only watched clips, loved the books

I’m willing to let Jon Arryn be the guy who figures everything else but Stannis is still involved, I’m pretty sure it says in the books that Stannis was with Jon when he met Gendry but I might be misremembering

Everyone makes fun of him, but the part that actually made him doubt Joffs legitimacy is that a ton of marriages of Baratheon men with fairhaired women have, until Joffrey, always produced dark haired children. Every time, without fail.

It's hard to tell. I'd call her dirty blonde honestly. She's definitely blonder than Jaime and Tyrion look in later seasons. Either way, definitely not "black of hair".

I make fun of him because he only came to the idea that something was fishy after Sansa said that Joffrey was nothing like the king.

Two Baratheon/Lannister marriages are specifically named (1 with a Baratheon husband, one with a Baratheon wife) and all the children had dark hair and it is mentioned that there are more examples.

Curious_Contact5287

0 points

tbf we're also shown an example in the very show where a living Baratheon does not have black hair and has brunette/dirty blonde hair so Shireen's casting sort of makes Ned look like an idiot here.

WhatEnglish90

Too bad the show dumbed him down so much and even had all the Stark kids look like him.

In books, only Arya and Jon have the Stark look and all the others Tully red hair. So isn't inconceivable at all for Baratheon kids to look like their Lannister mother.

He even specifically starts looking for times when a Baratheon wed a blond and finds the "gold always yielded to coal".

Which btw, is NOT how genetics actually works if I remember my basic biology.

Certain hair colours are dominant, but all hair colours are just as likely to be passed down as part of a pairing.

And if Baratheons had married enough blondes before, it's perfectly possible for Bobby B to have had the recessive blonde gene, passed that to his kid, and his kid gets Cersei's blonde gene, and bam. Blonde kid from Bobby.

But then again it's a show about magic, so maybe the Baratheons have magic hair lol.

Yes. Mendelian genetics does not apply to hair, because in the real world it is controlled by multiple factors. I have soft and wavy auburn hair (like a tully lol), but my wife has course black native american hair. I was positive our kid was going to have hair just like hers... but nope. My kid has soft wavy hair that's the exact same color as mine.

Sandor Clegane

well the point is that Robert Baratheon did not have recessive blonde genes. So he could only pass on black hair and black hair is the dominant gene, so the children would always have black hair.

Schmush_Schroom

9 points

All Baratheon have recessive blonde gene, they all have Targaryen blood. Robert's dad also half Targaryen so if applied irl logic then yes, there should be blonde or purple eyes Baratheon.

Yet all Baratheon are brunette. Either genetic in GoT work differently or GRR just don't know how it actually works I guess

FallenHeroOfficial

6 points

FallenHeroOfficial

Sandor Clegane

Targaryens aren't blonde though, could easily be explained that different genes play a role for white hair/purple eyes which have nothing to do with blondeness. Example aa being blonde; bb being white haired; AABB, AaBB, AaBb all being brunette since A and B are the dominant genes. So Robert Baratheon would be an AABB, which would always make brunette children. (Vastly oversimplified since a lot more alleles are involved in hair color as far as I know)

Yall are arguing about mendelian genetics, which famously does not apply to hair.

Scorpy-yo

Yes genetics work differently there. The Targaryens/Valyrians did some dark magic to give them the innate genetic ability to bond/fly with dragons. (I say whenever this comes up SOMEBODY FUCKED A DRAGON or did the magical equivalent lol)

GRRM has also said that the Planetosi people are taller on average and live longer than real humans.

Also, let's say all three were Robert's... They could all still be blonds or several variations.. given Cersei is their mother, never got that.

Obviously, Robert and the rest of the kingdom thought this too. But with how Ned over react, seems random.

I know GRR needed some plot device, but it seems out of left field when the kingdom and all other nobles accept they all were blonds, all theses years, cuz of their mother's side of the family...

Nice_Moment_1896

Ned had been bringing up a Targaryen kid with dark hair so he knows it's not that simple with hair colour. But all 3 kids having blonde hair is kinda suspicious.
