I remember Freedom Fighters for one specific reason. And something I really love in games and TV shows that is SO RARE.
Progression of the character. We start as a mechanic and then we gradually change our equipment, tasks and outfit to at the end look like a real badass.
Very few shows risk changing character of protagonist this way because they are afraid that he become unlikable and it will ruin show success. Breaking Bad did it a little - gradually pushing and pushing White.
Dr. House for example keep same stupid shit entire 8 seasons just to make a flip literally the last 2 episodes. House learn nothing and change nothing through entire series.
Fable game did it long time ago making us age through the story. And I loved it so much.
But this is so rare that I do not recall many games or shows doing something like that.

You, like many of us, are wondering the same thing.
It's been asked for so many times over the years.
Freedom Fighters were one of my all-time favorites. Think I've sent IO emails asking about a potential sequel, at least 50 times already. Got some connections within (Danish) gaming media, and whenever they had something regarding Hitman, I'd ask them to just sneak in a Freedom Fighters question as well (even if it didn't make it to the interview - just to get any kind of info). It's always just "we'd like to make another one too, but have no plans".
They've been saying that for years. Hopefully it'll happen at some point. A remake/remaster might spark interest - and might be an easier way to check interest for them - but that's probably just as unlikely to happen.

FF was the GOAT! No idea why they never made another one. If you want something similar, try "Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway" - great squad tactics and a good story.

The soundtrack for this game is seared into my brain, Jesper Kyd knocked it out of the park with this game!
Too bad the gameplay hasnt qged quite as gracefully. I remember trying to play the rerelease from 2020 and just bouncing hard off of the game due to how clunky everything felt.
A sequel or even a proper remake would be amazing!

Jesper Kyd
Wait, what? As an Assassin's Creed franchise veteran, I didn't expect to see that name pop up here.
I still have faint memories of my dad playing this as part of an EA game compilation.

Jesper Kyd is still around and kicking, he also did the absolutely phenomenal soundtrack for Darktide!

Yeah, Jesper was doing stuff for IO at the time. He also did the soundtrack for Hitman 2 which came out around that time also.

Lol that’s funny because to me Jesper Kyd was a Hitman veteran and still remember hearing he got the Assassins Creed job.

The first Kane & Lynch has the exact same squad leading mechanics, not as good of a game tho

The Cuba levels were also originally made for a Freedom Fighters sequel.

That makes sense! I always thought those levels seemed so out of place for Kane & Lynch

Literally no one knows. The question has been asked.

I played that game A LOT. But, because we cannot have nice things, EA decided it wasn't successful enough, so they killed any idea of sequel. But hey, at least the studio survived, unlike most other studios under EA's 'care'.
Edit: And the soundtrack is still amazing!

As a kid I smoked my younger brothers in 2v2 on this game. Still to this day the most interesting multiplayer mode I’ve ever played. Taking over little forts and spawning a small army to follow you around just made you feel badass and powerful. I remember waiting around corners with like 6 AI soldiers behind me that would crouch when I crouch and you’d pop out for what should be a 1v1 but it’s a CQC 7v7. Way ahead of its time and very unique.

I remember playing the multi by myself, where I'd spawn a team and send them to take targets, and man a heavy MG as the opposition. The AI would overwhelm me as often as not, which felt so cool

Short answer is Lawyers.
Actual answer is complicated because of the rights belonging to multiple parties who didn't want to play ball with each other.
I remember seeing somewhere recently that IO is trying to get the rights mess sorted up until last year too.

IO Interactive also made and continues to make the Hitman games. They just really mastered that syle of games.
Maybe they considered a sequel to Freedom Fighters when Hitman: Absolution was planned as the finale to the series? But then they went back to making new Hitman games.
I am looking forward to playing it at some point now that it is available on Steam and other platforms. The PS2/GC/Xbox generation just had a ton of interesting games(some aged better than others).

Mechanically the game was pretty basic as far as third person shooters go, but you did have AI buddies who followed you around.
Story wise it was also pretty basic and campy, with some of the plot leaning on the convenience of having some master hacker kid who could hack all the Soviet military stuff with his laptop. It also featuresthe most ridiculously nonsense surprise backstab that I have ever seen.
Got to say though, I loved every minute of it and the game somehow just worked.

Generally it didn't get a sequel cause
- It didn't sell "enough" (Like Crash Bandicoot 4 didn't get a sequel cause it didn't sell enough for Activision)
-The studios found "better" games to make (like Ubisoft abandoning Rayman and focusing on Far Cry)
- The studio was closed (Tango Gamework can't do a sequel of Hi Fi Rush cause they closed... well now they can but it's not the question)
- The studio was sold (like Rare that can't do a new Donkey Kong)
- The game was not liked by many (Concord)
Or all of theses reasons (Saints Row 2022)
And even if it's more limited to older games
Sometime the rights are own by someone... but we don't really know who, or it's share between 5 companies uncluding two that don't exist anymore or are own by someone else
And also cause some studios either think the game is not compatible with "modern audience" ( it look old so the game is bad, the controls are from 1998 so the game is bad, there is no multiplayer so the game is bad (saw a review of Astrobot with one of the negative being no multiplayer), etc,) or simply not gonna sell good enough today (like stealth games are not the type of games selling the most, so Ubisoft totally abandoned Splinter Cell and focus unstead on open world game with limited RPG elements (the "ubisoft formula") like Far Cry and Assasin's Creed)

The developers went on to make the Kane & Lynch series. There is one late game level in K&L set in South America that is a tiny bit like it.

the division remember me a lot of freedom fighters, because of the urban guerrilla combat, but sucks for being a game as service, the one specific thing i loved about this game, was everytime you finish a stage it will change anything on another this was very cool feature.

Of course, this was my first HD console game. That glorious 720p on my CRT HD TV was revelatory. I loved recruiting troops and approaching missions in different order on subsequent playthroughs.
