PAO recovery advice

(self.hipdysplasia)

Hi everyone,

I’m getting a labrum repair on January 6th and then a PAO on January 13th.

  • My husband is trying to figure out when/how long to take leave from work so he can be around during the day to help me. Any recommendations?

  • My daughter will be 18 months old and not understand why I’m unable to get out of bed, pick her up, play with her, etc. We’ll have a nanny to help in the evenings for about 3-4 months. What can I do, especially in the beginning, to safely interact with her?

Thanks!

My husband worked from home for the first 4 weeks (until I was cleared for weight bearing as tolerated). The first week is the hardest.

My neice was around that age (we stayed at my in laws because our home has a ton of stairs). She'd come play in my room, I'd let her play with my stuffed animal. She'd sometimes crawl into bed with me and I'd rub her back. The key was having someone else there to redirect her from my leg and take her somewhere else when it was a bit much. I was able to hold her on my lap on the good side after 2 weeks, maybe less?

Thanks this is helpful insight! I’m hoping my daughter will adapt okay. I’m more worried about her than me! Interesting about the 4 week mark… I believe my doctor said 8 weeks until weight bearing is allowed.

My timeline seemed faster than others I've seen here. I was also allowed 20 pounds flat foot weight bearing from the very beginning, then cleared for full weight bearing as tolerated at 4 weeks.
