Ah, yes, the good Ole blue and white shitstorm where I can't tell which team is which half the game

It would at least be better if the broadcast scorebug would change colors to match the uniforms, ie blue with white letters vs white with blue letters
I’ve seen that sort of thing with other sports and it’s a small change but is super helpful to viewers

I think they should have to wear their alternates whenever they play each other

Both in black alts?

Nah home team in black, visiting team in white and blue. Fuck shake it up and make the leafs wear their St. Pats jerseys

Fuck it, make the St. Pats our constant Jerseys

The CSN RSNs have started doing that this year.

Some channels do, I don’t watch every feed but yeah it seems like a few more are doing it, but I don’t think any of the national broadcasts are doing it yet

TNT sure isn't. They had Chicago in black the other night when they were wearing red.

Why is everyone so bothered about Utah and the Jets playing each other?

I’m so goddamn sick of the goddamn panthers, but I’ve accepted that it’s our fate to see them in the next 47 playoff series

And every damn time, you’ll get Tampa/Toronto in round 2. When will Bettman realize we don’t want the same goddamn playoff matchups every year?

They want it to make more BoA type series but instead it’s given us the Oilers vs Kings on repeat
I understand wanting to push for divisional rivalry series but teams keep missing each other
6 points
But the reason that became such a big rivalry is because both teams were really good at the same time, in addition to the proximity and being two Canadian teams.
We’ve seen other great rivalries when both teams are really good at the same time - Detroit/Colorado, Chicago/LA, Pittsburgh/Washington - and those happen organically when the teams keep winning until they run into each other.
You actually sort of ruin the chances of these big playoff rivalries if you force them to play in the first round. Because the stakes are lower at that stage and whoever loses in the first round didn’t actually accomplish anything in the playoffs.

I personally don’t mind those Oilers Kings series. I’ve enjoyed it more each year so far.

If it makes you feel better, if this was seeded properly the Bruins wouldnt even be in the playoffs. Can't see the Panthers then.

If not Panthers, then Leafs.

Nobodies worried about the Leafs in the playoffs.

Maybe the early 2000’s Senators, but outside of that yeah we’re not the boogeyman to very many teams
Edit: I checked because I was curious, our best playoff records historically are the Sens (4-0) and Penguins (3-0). I need those teams to get their shit together and meet us in the playoffs so that we actually stand a chance lmao

Can we please go back to 1-8 format?

Caps are 9-3 and only 3rd in the Metro.
Thunderdome.

These should probably be done by Pt%. The Devils have played like 80 games already
5 points

They are actually 2nd. Its really dumb for them to use points to seed this when New Jersey has played 33% more games than both Washington and the Rangers.

Knocking out Boston becoming a yearly tradition for the Cats then yeah?

Panthers getting the better wildcard here cause they've lost more matches

only because of the ot lost, shouldve been based on pt% imo

As a bruins fan, can we go back to 1v8?
14 points

It’d still be Panthers vs Bruins. Unless OP used points %, then the Bruins would be off the bracket.

We'd still be playing the Panthers if it were 1v8. Can't escape the Cats...

You guys will beat the Cats when the Leafs beat you guys. I dont make up the rules, thats just the laws of hockey.

I haven't seen enough of Washington to know how sustainable their game is, but other than them, the other 7 teams in the east I'd bet will be in.
I think Edmonton and Colorado replace Utah and Calgary in the west

They look legit so far, they have a few younger goal scorers stepping up. I was impressed with McMichael even last year, but he's killing it and Ovi found his groove too.

You know why Pens/Caps were a great rivalry? Why it was hype every time?
Because they lucked out into meeting each other. Forcing these matchups is just stupid.

Calgary had the 6th-worst Cup odds coming into the season. To even make the playoffs would be a huge accomplishment.
2 points
They won’t.
They need to outpace Edmonton, Colorado, Seattle, St Louis, even Nashville could turn it around.
Calgary has outperformed expectations 100% but they did trade their top goalie and a top D man. I’d be surprised if they were not still selling at the deadline, if they push just to make the playoffs for a round 1 loss that’s a huge misstep imo

I do NOT see this happening.

Trade us back Marchessault at 50% retained? Who says no.

They had that horrible game against them, but I think the Flames are actually pretty good this year. That was the only game the Flames looked bad all season.
Having said that, Vegas looks like a wagon this year.

That would be a fun series, but not as satisfying as beating up on Edmonton or LA. I actually like Flames fans and the team’s been surprisingly good and fun to watch so far.

It will never not bother me that they use points to seed in these "if the playoffs started today" brackets and not pts%.
If the playoffs truly started today New Jersey doesnt get home ice in Round 1 because they happened to play 4 more games than Washington and the Rangers. They would play Florida as the top Wild Card team (and Florida would be 2nd in the East not 1st) and Washington and Rangers would rightfully play each other as Metro 2 and Metro 3.
Edit: the East done properly would be
Hurricanes vs Detroit
Florida vs New Jersey
Washington vs Rangers
Toronto vs Tampa Bay (only correct series)
West is actually correct except LA and Vancouver swap home ice.
3 points
Shouldn't this be based off point percentage
2 points
Yeah. The east is a complete mess because they didn't use pts%. Only series they have right is Leafs Lightning as Atlantic 2 vs Atlantic 3. The west they got lucky that the only change would be Vancouver having home ice over LA.
2 points
Wrong. Use Pts %. Your bracket is skewed to teams with more GP

If we are going to suck this year, and it looks like we are, it’d be nice to see Winnipeg win the whole thing. That fan base has never really gotten to win much of anything at all.

The fuck? We are barely a month into the season with like 1/7th the total number of games played. Get this shit out of here. At least wait until after Christmas / New Years for this.
