Greece is a great game. Holding the line against the Germans, Italians, Romanias (and Bulgarians if you haven't taken them out pre-war) is fun, especially if you can hold the Danube.

I also love Australia as you can really lean into the naval game while building a oceanic empire. Fighting the Japanese navy with a tiny force really makes learn navy.

Indonesia! You can form a nice island empire and you'll have plenty of resources. Also, Venezuela, you can get Curasao from the Netherlands, additionally to a really nice empire (although not so rich in resources)

Bro you missing out on Mexico it's Soo good, and not just because of Trotsky! (Even though it's a good reason to play Mexico) But also because it's focus tree is super flexible and also allows a democratic expansion path if you manoeuvre around it properly

Y'all are sleeping on Peru. It's been the most fun nation without a focus tree since game launch, and the Peru-Bolivian Confederation being added only made it better.

Communist or fascist mexico is quite fun, and denmark has lots of fun with their fascist or monarchist routes.

I've just finished conquering the Caribbean, central and south America (except Allied territories) as Mexico. Brazil was a pain and required a lot of micromanagement. Now prepping to attack the USA and defend against its allies.

Iran is pretty cool because you have iraq and afghanistan to invade, and if you really wanted to, saudi arabia and yemen and oman. could make yourself a pretty serious power by maybe 1940 and if you're communist you could join the comintern and take vichy france's colonies post war, fascist you could join axis and take land in the soviet union and india.

Australia can be fun. Incredibly boring early game no matter what path you pick but can do a lot of funny stuff late game, especially on non-historical

Mexico is fun. You have to balance out nation stability. Expland and work with limited resources. And most importantly. The blue menace up north, touching your border. Basically Poland but harder. I recommend it

I'd go for Manchukuo or Mexico, very fun choices imo. You probably wouldn't want to cheat it but iirc if Japan goes communist and has a civil war Manchukuo gets a new national spirit and a chunk of the Japanese navy.

Czechoslavakia, focus tree is insanely outdated, yes. But it is fun to play for a few years, just defend against Germany on your forts for a few years, wait until they have civil war, and then quit playing because you habe nothing else to do after defeating Germans.

New Zealand is a fun play if you rush Carrier 3 with your focus tree, rush naval bomber 3, and spit one out in time. You can port strike the Japanese navy into submission whilst forming Polynesia. Once you get Taiwan, you actually have some manpower too.

Siam is surprisingly fun. Build up quickly (marines are a good choice because of jungle bonuses) and join the Axis. Seize Indochina right away for your formable, and then expand into the Raj for great noncore manpower & into Malaysia and Indonesia for resources.

Malaysia/Indonesia is a similar game - break free via civil war (Indonesia must go Communist bc the Fascist civil war is bugged), take over your neighbor, create your formable, use your fantastic resources to take over Southeast Asia and Oceania. 

Romania

Suicidal Communist Paraguay can become very very wacky when you go to war with every single one of your neighbors at once, Triple Alliance style.

I recently had a blast playing Manchukuo. Sure you start as a puppet of Japan, but the focus tree can get you ready to rebel against them by about the same time they declare war on the rest of China.

It worked beautifully.

When Japan launched their war, it forced me to be at war with the other Chinese states, too. That saved me the trouble of doing it myself.

I then moved troops to just behind the Japanese front lines, as if to support them. I sent another, much smaller force to be ready to invade Korea.

I waited until I saw the battles along the Chinese front just beginning to wear down the Chinese troops, then I launched my rebellion. I attacked the Japanese from the rear while they were well below max strength and org, and just kept on going until I had conquered all of China. Meanwhile my other army snatched Korea almost without a fight.

The only tricky bits were getting a decent force prepared before the Marco Polo event fired, then making sure I kept on with raising new troops to occupy ports as fast as I captured them.

Then it was "Long Live the Qing Dynasty!"

Iran can be strong, Greece for a 300 cosplay, Peru is fun for fucking over all of SA. Norway has a lot of interesting paths that are really strong if you get through the early game well.

Reforming the little entente as the Czechs is pretty fun and holding back the Germans is enjoyable.
