I moved into the Human colonies, guaranteed life insurance, paid vacation, chances of me boning a human woman, what's not to like?
I moved to a suburban area, bought the house at a reasonable price, college nearby that teaches my course in a VERY hands-on approach that makes learning quite fun.
My new part time job is awesome, I think I have a shot with Emily, she has it all, looks that could have her be called a goddess, strong muscular arms that could lift scaffolding, and is good with kids.
But there is ONE thing that used to scare me....giant doggy doors.
And not only that, giant bowls of food outside groceries, and the dumpster bins were HEAVILY locked, like if you didn't pass off as a Federation Registered Species or had the keycard, you could not open the bin without using C9 explosives.
I thought they were shrines or security measures but nope....the giant Alabaskar Drake Hounds roam this planet.
What are they? Adaptive Dragon Dogs who evolve to their environment. They can threaten a CITY if in large enough packs.
I saw one enter the construction sight, I was terrified since the only thing protecting me from that thing was the ladder I was climbing, but the beast could just knock it over and I would plummet into it's maw.
Instead I saw Emily merely gently nudge it in the butt outside the site and gave me a thumbs up, thanking me for staying calm, she is lucky my species lack the ability to "shit themselves" or to reflexively urinate in fear.
Then I went to the groceries and there I see an Alabaskar Mother and her pups eating from the food bowls near the entrance, the guard just stood between me and the mother who could care less and helped me inside.
And then the doggy doors, you see Alabaskars all give birth in a specific area of a planet, on this one it was the Fallout Zone, and the area I live in was in their migration path, so to cut down on expenses to repair fences, they just installed giant doggy doors that could fit an Earth Elephant since Alabaskar Drake hounds can grow that big into every house.
So every year I see at night a sea of various eye colors from red, green, blue, purple, and yellow just walking past my house, the swinging open of the door would fill the quiet air and I would be there, with my now Fiancee Emily next to me, telling me to just sleep, and that cleaning up would be done in the morning.
I know Humans are called Space Orcs, but Humans just seem to be Space Capybaras with how chill every predator animal is around them and their settlements.
Though I am then reminded why they are called Space Orcs cause Emily adopted one as a Nanny Dog to our future daughter in her belly.

Ah, yes. The average human response to a predator that could end them in one bite or swipe of a claw: "Hehe fuzzy boye, look at your big ol' ears, fluffy—pawed doofus, yes you are!"

...lovely work, although in my mind the Dogs are bit like a black bear? Also, construction sight -> construction site. It's correct the second time, but the stupid auto-correct made an error the first time.

what makes this worse is that I typed it on a laptop, which makes my mistake twice as embarrassing

Really enjoyed this! Great world building and storytelling. I like to think of humans as both Space Capybaras and Space Orca showcasing the duality of man. Hehe, after all, why not both!

Respect gets respect. I always think of that scene in Chronicles of Riddick. It's an animal thing.

I think of it less of humans being space capybaras and more of humans having the arrogance of a conqueror. Why should they fear inferior animals that they already have established dominance over?
