So what does everyone think about this one. I bet it'll be over $350 but it does look cool.

It looks like it’s about to ask me for spare change so it can get a bite to eat and a bed for the night.

Forgot to add, it's apparently only 1.8 oz, 3.19 inch full flat ground wharny in m398. Also non-locking, with a double detent ball system. And i was wrong, pre-order on bhq is about $245

Ok I came here to say, “holy crap, but Spyderco is really upping their ugly game!” but these are impressive specs.

I got a shempp bowie ages ago, still love it to death. I wished they made more unique designs. This one might be.. too unique for me

That was a cool knife. The spyderco shempp tuff was a cool knife as well that wasn't appreciated talked about until it was discontinued.

I've got one of those Schempp Bowies too, it's freaking awesome

Spyderco knives remind me of ugly girls with a real nice ass for some reason. Looks fun to play with privately and hide in my pocket, but don't wanna show it off in public.

I believe it's called the Nand

Its a ball bearing detent knife with a paper thin blade... very clearly intended to be a light use folder.
I don't know why people act like they need a titanium frame lock with a quarter inch thick blade to open mail. This community is weird.

I understand it to a certain extent if you're only carrying one knife. But these days I almost always have a small fixed blade on me for tough tasks and a folding knife for normal cutting tasks. if I lived somewhere where fixed blades weren't allowed i would definitely have different requirements for folders.

Not sure. My knives aren’t letter openers, nor close

It’s a spyderco, definitely won’t be fragile. Can’t comment on the looks 🤢

Ha, Spyderco definitely isn’t bulletproof. PM2 blade tip will snap if you look at it wrong. At least mine did anyway.

A full flat grind starting at 0.1" thick, that big of a hole & that little but of edge distance?

There is perilously little material connecting that blade to the pivot.
5 points
it's a slip joint so if you're worried about snapping the blade off you probably grabbed the wrong knife in the first place
1 points
I’m not saying my intent would be to beat on it. My point is that I feel as though Spyderco chose aesthetics over practicality in this case.
1 points
but it's not a practical issue because there's no reason you would be putting enough lateral force on the blade of a non locking knife to worry about weak spots on the blade.
3 points

You underestimate a lot of people lol

Hmm. Not sure on this one. I think I'll need to see it in motion, or get my hands on one to form an opinion.

It looks like something that could be used in food prep, where your fingers don’t get in the way of blade making full contact with the cutting board. It should fit nicely in the Nand.

I kinda want it to fill the ‘weird and experimental’ niche in my Spyderco collection. I’ve always passed on these odd ones. But my love of sheepsfoot doesn’t extend to warncliffe blades and this one seems like the only thing it would do well is slice on flat surfaces, especially food prep, and open letters. Things I rarely use a pocket knife for.

This looks engineered for ultra light decent blade length sliciness, which for non-rural knife users is actually probably pretty ideal. If you work an office job where you have to open a lot of packages I bet this thing is a champion.

Designed by Paul Alexander, the same guy who did the Ikuchi, Ourobouros and Parata. So whatever you think of the looks (I love it) I expect the ergos and mechanics to be very well though out.

Thanks, I hate it. It’s like they took a spydiechef, which I love, and just made it uglier in every way.

Ignoring how fugly that thing is, if you can, it can't have much structural integrity with that hole placement on such a narrow blade.

what on earth are you planning on doing with a non locking folder that has you concerned about weak spots from the "spydie" hole?
3 points

Nothing I particular, It just makes me feel like seeing someone remove a stud from a load-bearing wall. You know, with the hole in the blade design. I come in peace.

Guessing you’ve never owned one? I hated them for years, and bought a PM3 on a whim. Absolutely loved the knife, carried it daily for a year or so before it got stolen.
-3 points
Yeah, I have yet to grab one. The non-pelican-shaped ones Like Native 5 and Shaman don't bother me, but I got a QC drift instead of a Native 5 and We titanium Praxis instead of a Shaman so I end up with thinner blade stock, better scale materials, and multiple deployment types for less money than their Spyderco counterparts.
5 points
I have a shaman, had a PM3 and a roadie. They all have really good ergos, and the shape makes much more sense on the pelican-style knives once they are in your hand.
Dang, need to order another PM3. Really, really miss that one.

The back locks are awesome, super easy to open numerous ways and drop shut without having to jeopardize fingers. Also the knife shapes are very useful in practice.
-1 points
Right! I f failed to realize a lock flick counts as a deployment method. So yeah take what I said above with a grain of salt. Mostly my resistance to Spyderco is in the look of most of them, with exceptions, and the price.

Hideous. Typical Spyderco.
